No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries in January 2013

I finally gave up with a neutrogena hand cream (the concentrated one) never seemed to sink in. Tried it with cotton gloves - still sticky, tried it as foot cream - just as bad. WNBA.

2 Mascaras. 1 waterproof (work) and 1 curling one (going out). Both have been open for a very long time and have read somewhere that they should only be used for 3 months.

For the record I dont believe everything I read but Im sure these were closer to 3 years old:o

Second one is a body butter (fanfare!) My favourite kind of UU as I still have so many and they seem such slow progress! I actually really like this one - S & G Butter Up - WBA - in a blue tube as out of the Spa range so not as sickly sweet as some of the pink items. This is a dry skin formula and my skin drinks it in, particularly on my shins where the skin is always dry unless I religiously moisturise (which I'm not terribly great at...). I love that its not at all sticky, which is my pet hate for a lot of body lotiohs and butters - I've also used this as foot and hand cream and its fab. Actually quite glad I've another tube in the stash. A pot would have been a better design as had to cut open when loads left but that was no hassle as easily done.

I'm using this at the moment too and I really like it as well and I'm a bit sad I'm very close to UU - maybe tonight. I have to agree with the packaging thing - at first I liked it being in a tube but as soon as it was not quite so full it became really hard work. I cut it open thinking it must nearly be empty but it was about 1/2 full!

UU L'Occitane Velvet hand cream Rose. This is lovely, sunk in really quickly and was nicely moisturising. I wasn't too keen on the smell of it, it felt a little to old lady (no offence to old ladies!) for me so WBA but it a different flavour. I received this a part of my Pumpkin patch swap - so thank you buddy!
Have replaced with a L'Occitane dry skin hand cream.

    Good Morning.

I haven't had any ins or uu for a while but am still keeping up with the thread. I have a Yarden Dead Sea Mineral Face Wash that will not end, I have been using it almost every day for so many months and every time I use it now i think that it might at least splutter but no. I am so fed up and need a change. It is very good value for money though.

Just wondering what foundations people use (if any)? I can't seem to find a foundation to suit my skin. I have mild acne so I feel that foundation is an essential for me, although I don't wear when I am just around the house as I am aware that it could also contribute to my acne.

I am currently using Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte foundation (which is for normal/oily skin and says it provides medium/full coverage). I bought this when Boots were doing a promotion around matching your foundation. I do quite like it but I'm not blown away.

In the past I have used Clinique Anti-Blemish solutions foundation and Garnier BB Cream for combination to oily skin. Again I felt these products were ok but I am still yet to find my HG!

    Thoughts appreciated!!

Finally caught up! The thread does always seem to fly in January but wow!

I'm absolutely delighted to see Pink Rose Candle Philosophy (see sig.) being discussed and blooming on here.
Ironically, I don't have many 'candles' myself at the moment as a lot of my really good stuff has been used up over the last 2 years.

One "candle" - I am really enjoying using the B0ots Gorgeous Feet set a buddy got me for Christmas. A delicious foot soak this morning followed by a polish with foot scrub and the lovely fragrant cream.

I've been joining in on the Hoarding thread and I decided to sort out my tights - which I rarely wear, I'm a socks and trousers person - whilst feet were soaking.

Good job I was alone, it must have been quite a picture.
I was sat on the loo seat, pyjama bottoms rolled up, feet soaking in the empty "bathroom bits" plastic storage box (deeper than a bowl, just the right size) surrounded by a bundle of nylons, and doing the 'sock puppet thing' as I checked each one out....
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

as my skin is extremely dry I can't really recomend anything but would suggest you try a few different make up brands, probably the more expensive ones that have consultants instore and have a make over telling them your concerns and ask for a sample of the foundation they use.Origins have a moisturiser type one that changes to suit your skin tone but not sure what sort of skin type it is for.The origins lady in my local JL was lovely and I have had two facials free with her and not too much pressure to buy(I only cancelled the latest one due to bad weather)I know it can seem a lot to buy a foundation from one of the posh brands BUT foundation to me is the most important item of make up as if you get that right you can get away with cheaper lippy/mascara/shadow etc and it does last ages so the cost per use is not bad.

sadly at the moment after my bout of manflu I think the only answer is pollyfilla:(:(:(

OH may take me to chester next week as he has a job there so a trip round the shops and a nice dinner for two unless I am really lucky and can meet up with my sister if it is her day off....watch this space

nails awful and now very short as so many cracks across them I had to file down:(:(:(so no shellac for ages(looks like i have bitten them:eek:)

Oh my this thread moves fast! ;)

    Update time!

First the UUs, to make me feel better about the, aherm, INs...:o

23 - sample of L'Occitane shea serum. Quite nice actually.
24 - some ginger body wash from a hotel.
    25/26 - 2 samples of Avon perfume
27 - sanctuary comforting night butter. Gorgeous gorgeous, would buy this again in a heartbeat.
28 - soap of undetermined origin
    29 -
sample of L'Occitane ultra rich face cream - lovely if a little heavy for my skin
30 - sample of L'Occitane minute brightening exfoliator. I liked this a lot, gentle but scrubby. Nice.

    INs...

12 - ginger wash from hotel, the mister loved this so he brought it home. We left everything else though.
13/14/15 - L'Occitane samples as we popped in at the weekend. Didn't buy anything for me, just some presents for people.
16 - Lush. The mister again, bless him, bought me some perfume...
    17 - ...porridge soap...
    18 - ...and a bath melt...
19 - we were given a full face mask by the assistant. The date is fine too.

So, good news bad news I suppose. *glances at stash*
    Cookie, I think you're tame. :heart2:

Well I had some unexpected UU's and TA's last night...

I had forgotten to add my lush things to my list as I keep them in a separate box, when I checked through them last night a lot had got damp and ruined and so had to be TA :(

There was a bath bomb and half a bubble bar which looked just about usable so I threw those in a bath and had a nice long soak and hence the two UU's.

Gutted about the stuff I had to throw away though, but will teach me to store my Lush goodies in a DRY place!!
    Addicted to MSE, I can't resist a bargain ;)
  • One UU - No 7 Revitalising Hand Saviour. I WBA if I had a £5 off No 7 voucher but otherwise I'd prefer the Crabtree and Evelyn equivalent. I have one of those I'll move onto next.

After that I might try making up my own - salt or perhaps sugar with some base oil and aromatherapy oils.
