No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries in January 2013

Just dropping in to report my first OUT of the new year:
Gatineau active eclat radiance enhancing gommage - personally WNBA - this did leave my skin very smooth but I prefer an exfoliator that has 'scrubby' bits in. If you like Elemis papaya enzyme peel then you might like this but I am reverting to LE exfoliator which has just the right amount of scrubbiness in. (Although all this talk of Emma H is making me think I might use up my pot of EH rosehip granules next. That's the trouble with a stash - too many choices!)
Thanks to all for recommeding the Beauty Mouth blog - I have subscribed and will spend some time perusing when I have a bit more time (although will resist buying anything).0 -
I'd like to join for this year please! I did well a few years ago, used up loads of things. Now I have lots of perfume, make up and tolietries to use up (Mainly body cream, body crub, bath wash, face cream, face moisturiser etc). I will need to buy some shampoo and conditioner throughout the year as that is the only thing that I haven't got a lot of. Also, my antibactierial soap as I have had problems with a pregnant related rash and that is the only thing that helps.Former Debt free wannabe. Now trying to save for a rainy day!0

I have acne, eczema and rosacea. I'm older than you, far too old for acne, but it's difficult to treat 3 conditions at once. My skin spontaneously clears up from time but it never lasts for long. I have yet to find anything that helps when my skin is really bad but when it's going through a 'good' phase I can use any old rubbish (within reason) and it wil be fine.
A lot of spot treatments work by drying the skin out and if you don't actually have oily skin that can cause as many problems as it solves. Someone on here recommended Clean and Clear moisturiser. I've tried it and unfortunately it hasn't made much difference to my skin. However, it hasn't dried it out and I haven't reacted to it so you might want to consider giving it a go and see if it helps you. It's not terribly expensive so you haven't got much to lose by trying it (although it will mean adding to your stash.)3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know if you've seen any of my posts about the thread I started when I asked for advice about a problem I was having in work. It seems that if you don't agree with everything everyone says - which is difficult when a lot of the posters are disagreeing with each other - then you are deemed to be argumentative/a liar/ungrateful/a troll and lots more besides.
One of the posters even 'followed' me here and found a post I had made about it and said I was 'ungrateful' for the advice I had been given. A couple of other posters also commented on what I had said on here.
I started a thread a while ago enquiring about bus passes for people who were unable to drive for medical reasons. My son had not long come out of intensive care after having 2 severe seizures and had to surrender his driving licence for a year. I had heard that you can sometimes get free bus passes in cases like these and posted for advice. The vultures soon gathered and chewed me up and spat me out. I can't remember what they had decided I had done wrong but that thread was closed without me asking for it to be and didn't give me the chance to put them right. This time I asked for the thread to be closed and I am glad I did.
I come here for sanctuary (as in a safe haven, rather than the toiletry brand!) and it really is a breath of fresh air. There are some really nice people on other threads but there are some horrible people. The best thing is when they accuse people of being trolls - have they looked in the mirror recently!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
but I have scrimped on face care and I've realised its time to spend a bit more on face products that actually work, so hopefully I will buy less of them in the quest for nice skin.
I'd be more than happy to spend more on face products if I found any that were actually any better than the cheaper ones. For me that just hasn't proved to be the case. The problem is that experimenting with more expensive products is well, more expensive!
When my skin is going through a settled phase I can use more or less anything. When it's misbehaving, as it is now, nothing seems to help. I've used Dermalogica, Murad and a few other premium products and they've been no better than the much cheaper products.
I'm only really prepared to try more expensive products if I can get them free or at a greatly reduced price. I like the fact that Lush will give you quite generous sized samples as you need to use something more than once to see if it is going to work for you. Unfortunately Lush don't seem to have anything like a HG for me in terms of cleansers/moisturisers etc.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

I do really wish that the cosmetic companies did trial packs of their products that you could buy for a fiver. Some do, but not many. I find it so hard to get samples from beauty counter assistants. There have been so many times I have been looking at a £40 moisturiser and they cannot even provide a sample sachet.
I find most of the moisturisers I liked have been in the £15-25 price range. I have not had much luck with the likes of Clarins/Clinique/Lancome etc. But, I have also had no luck with moisturisers costing less than £10 and believe me I have tried them all!0 -

Anyway, I've been reading on and off and even though I've not strictly been following it (did purchase the LIB calendar and some conditioners in the sale) it has definitely made me rethink a few purchases. I've almost finished my list so I'll post that soon too. I'm getting married in July and have just bought a new car so need to make cutbacks everywhere I can and toiletries seem to be my downfall so I am not buying anything but the absolute necessities like shampoo and deodorant for as long as possible. Wish me luck lol.
Thanks
What a nice post! You'll fit in just fineWelcome and welcome to all the other newbies too, I hope you like it here. mickey mouse I've serious stash envy! You've some lovely products there, hope you enjoy using them up and seeing the stash reduce, its very satisfying

Ok, I suck at this! Went out to the shops for something to do! Came back with a no7 lip and eye set, a Trevor sorbie minis pack (4 items) a boots therapy ocean fresh shower foam (on sale) and a dove body wash twin pack
I also bought another hair set which had 3 products and curlers in under the guise of it being for dd (7.5) who LOVES curly hair but has very fine hair that the curls just drop out of!
Oopsie! Naughty SJ! I am however, out of boots points now.
Rome wasn't built in a dayPlus not too bad if you used AC points. I'm sure the shiny new 2013 naughty step is ready and waiting for us and its usually on the spacious side :rotfl:

I ordered a Marc Jacobs Daisy gift set in the Boots Sale on Xmas Eve. I should have been able to pick it up from the store on New Year's Eve but there was a delay (with them, not me, wild horses wouldn't keep me away from picking up one of my purchases.
) I picked it up today so have to add 50ml EDT, 75ml Body Lotion and 75ml Shower Gel to the stash (don't actually have to but it would have been rude not to at that price!) This will be my set for 'best' and I will be using Ted Baker for second best. Got lots of other everyday shower gels, body lotions and perfumes.
There was still lots of sales stuff in so I am hoping that if they do the 75% off sale there will be a few goodies to be had. I am resisting the 50% off sale and will try to only get presents in the 75% off sale, if it happens. Presents for other people and not me of course.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Happy New Year everyone, I've not been on here since Monday so going to read back through the thread first.
So glad it's all over and we can get back to some sense of normality.Life is a coin, you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once.
Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you'll see further.
Take time but don't waste time0
