Thanks TOG, Am I right in reading the reviews that this box has changed ordinary Tube T,vs into HD. because, my JVC 28" which I have moved to conservatory, is big enough for in there, and a good TV, at that, can be converted to HD, instead of looking at another, flat 32" to replace it ?
I needed this as a simple, no nonsense Freeview box for an older CRT TV without built in decoder. Set up is easy and it works fine. One word of warning - its a little unclear whether the plastic film which covers the device is just for shipping or protection of the product in use. I removed it thinking it was the former, but I think I was wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars Manhattan Plaza Freeview Digital Receiver, 15 Dec 2011
By Alfie - See all my reviews
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Manhattan Plaza DT-100+ Freeview Digital Receiver (Electronics)
Freeview Box that has enabled us to keep our old television and receive digital channels using only a UHF ariel lead (no scart sockets on TV) to connect to the Manhattan Plaza DT-100+ Freeview Digital Receiver. Great picture quality so now don't have to rush to buy a digital flat screen. We can now wait for the flat screens to improve their picture quality to compete with our 30 year old TV.

    You mean upscaling?
Your non HD TV can never display HD
it simply doesn't have the resolution to do so
The upscaling refers to upscaling non HD content on an HD screen
have to get new glasses instead of tv,s :rotfl:

They are refering to the digital switchover
the CRT has an analogiue tuner that means it cant receive the digital channels when the analogue is switched off

expensive digi box just for that then.except it,s ready for a new monitor like mine.
  • You can output SD Freeview channels over scart (about 70-odd) to a CRT.

You cannot ouput any Freeview HD channels (all 4 of them) to a CRT over HDMI.

If you want to watch the 4 HD channels on Freeview on your HD display you need a Freeview HD receiver. Doesn't mean the box has no other capabilities.

Hi custardy, this is interesting me, can you answer me a couple of questions referring to my earlier ones?
1;;As HDMI platinum cables come in up to 6m lengths, that,s the max I,ve seen online .what,s the max you know to.
2;Got 2 tv,s 1 lounge& 1 bedroom adjacent, I, if made,f I put DVR at set 1 with 1m cable, and run longer 6m or longer to tv 2, is there any way 2 cables can be adapted to dvr together, like coax splitter Y , at dvr?
3;When not using tv1 , unplug 1m, and connect 6m+to dvr,( 2 second job) and then can still use only 1 dvr , in situ, for both tv,s seperately ?purely for playing recorded programs,
If they make high quality HDMI cables 6m long, they dont expect much signal loss.

I would use an HDMI splitter.
plenty about for not much money. either manual or automatic

I run a 3 metre one here from the PC to the AV amp
works fine and wasnt a lot of money
    I have 2 hdmi switchers
1 is manual controlled by remote.
I have that as part of the macros on the harmony remote
The auto one is a pain. its for the PS3/360(i keep meaning to buy a 5 port switcher to sort this) works fine for the PS3 but is temperamental with the 360

Cheers, As we discussed earlier, there,s no reason why manufacturers cannot put 2 hdmi outlets on units .
Your link for cable is dear, you agree with this article then ?

BBC - Newsbeat - Are expensive digital HDMI cables better?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/100565472 Feb 2010 – Digital cables for high-definition TVs, called HDMI, can cost up to £110 but are they really worth the investment?

Forget about Platinum and other snake oil descriptions when it comes to HDMI cables. For your Freeview HD signal you will only be passing 720p/1080i at 742.5 Mbps which is about the lowest data rate over HDMI.

Here's a list of cables and I would probably buy the 4th one down for £10.95 delivered:

yes but that link is to a 40 metre cable
    You mean HDMI inputs?
My TV has multiple HDMI sockets, unfortunately I only use one as everything is piped through the AV amp ;)
So I need everything running to its solitary HDMI scocket
Newer/higher spec amps have more though
