Can't return goods - not asked for.

  • Could this be the root of the problem?
my partner would not order a pair of knee high boots with 'embellishments' for me ( I think he knows my taste well enough not to do this) and certainly not from Barratts!

    How about for himself ;)

The OP has already explained why having the boots collected from work isn't an option.
Personally, to me it sounds like a weak excuse. I know many people who are pregnant with other kids who have still managed to carry a box.

We still haven't established if the OPs partner got them as a gift.

The OP is not being unreasonable at all. She did not order them and is not obliged to put herself out to ensure their return. Why should she lug them into her workplace? Or go to a post office?

Give and take does not come into it. The company are solely responsible for getting the item back.
We still haven't established if anyone has ordered them for the OP.

It is unreasonable to demand a sunday collection. The OP could take them on a saturday morning to a post office.

Give and take comes into it. The OP isn't being flexible at all. I'm sorry but thats what it screams to me.

Oh dear, you really did not get out of the right side of the bed this morning did you.

I have a toddler that I have to get to nursery - who I have to CARRY over busy main roads to get there. Unless you think I should make him carry the box.

We DID establish that my partner did not order the boots.

Naf - I know, thank you - sorry if it came across any differently!

Shaun - they wouldn't fit him. Or me for that matter, lol. :rotfl:

More importantly, why should the OP put herself out for Barratt mistake? I think it's perfectly reasonable not to inconvenience yourself... Tell Barratts the options are Sundays or Maternity Leave, and next time to take care with their orders!

Why does give and take come in to it?

The OP did not order the goods so should not have to put ANY effort in to returning them. Sending them an email is more than enough effort if you ask me.

So if I send you something through the post which you have no knowledge of, didn't order and don't want, then you have to post it back to me or lug it around until i want to collect it?

I don't work near a post office and I don't have use of a car during the week. I categorically could not get to a post office unless I had a day off or no plans on a saturday and then i would have to drive into town and pay to park. Dream on! As if that is reasonable. I am not allowed collections from work and so much like the OP they would have to come and get it on a Sunday, or not at all.

Barratts are a big company, they should just suck it up and say no harm done. Then you should ebay the boots. It seems ridiculous that they would send you somthing you didn't order in the first place, surely these things are all done via computer?!

Someone made a mistake, a decent human being would recognise that and give a little to help out. I find it bizarre that the only time a collection could be arranged is a Sunday - that neither the neighbours, a family member or the OP could be available on (for instance) a Saturday morning.

To me, knowing that couriers do not work on a Sunday, the OP's insistence that the collection can only happen then implies she is being difficult for the sake of it.
  • The reasons have already been spelled out more than once as to why Sunday is the only suitable day.

I think a reasonable human being would understand the OPs situation and be sympathetic to the facts presented.

The company only need to wait a few weeks if they want to pick it up during the week.

The OP should not have to go out of their way to remedy this situation and suggesting they are not a decent human being by not wanting to "help out" I think is unreasonable in itself.

How would it benefit anyone but the company by "helping out"?
