  • catshark88 I'd set a budget for replacing it, and only replace it if you can find it within that budget. That's what I'd do at least!

Well I have been lurking for a while now but still trying to keep the need not want theory in mind. I have to say I am now making a big decision for me based on exactly that!

Last Friday my dog was taken ill. It was eventually found out he had been attacked by a bigger dog whilst at the dog sitters but that's a long story. Anyway he has been in critical care most of the week. He had to be resuscitated last Friday night! He is now on the mend and should be home on Monday :j

Thankfully he is insured but I have to pay the fees up front and reclaim them from my insurance! Not sure how vets get away with it? Imagine if car insurers and garages worked the same way? Anyway, I need to raise some funds and the solution is going to be to sell some jewellery. I have a few really high priced items which I really wanted to keep but, and here is the reality, I have had a necklace and bracelet sat in a box for about 9 years and worn them about 6 times. So much as I would like to keep them, I don't need them and they have to go. When I get the money back from the insurers I will use it to pay off some debt so that is another big plus! I don't think I could have brought myself to sell them just for debt clearing purposes :o

I was sorting through them tonight and my DS1 who is 7 was looking at them and was asking what I was doing. I explained I was going to sell them to pay the vet so we could have our dog back. Bless him, he said but they are beautiful, please keep them. He then asked me if I wore them and I explained I had but not very often and much as I loved them our dog was more important and I didn't really need to keep them. He seemed happy so off to the jewellers on Saturday morning :o

Julie2710, could you explain the situation to the vets and see if they might make an exception in this case and deal with the insurance company direct? I have just had a similar situation with a horse and a very big claim. It wasn't a company that my vet usually dealt with direct, but they agreed to do so. I was very relieved! I remained liable for the fees if for some reason they weren't paid, but all went well.

    Confession time....

I replaced the dish. I looked around online and it seemed to be a discontinued line (it was very much reduced before Christmas), so I contacted th shop and they had 2 left.

On the plus side, I also saw the mixing bowl of my dreams (must have odd dreams), but I left it on the shelf....

Actually, we're not the first ones to come up with this maxim.

I believe the old 'take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves' quite probably covers it.

Well, its the first of the month. All bills are paid. I have a cheque for £12.95 from the lockup in my posession. My running account has £400 in it ready for use throughout the month and both cars have petrol in them. Last night was boiled bacon, eggs and wedges since that was the last of the meat available before tomorrow. Tonight will be 'whats left of the bacon', leeks, some suspect cheese used to make a beschemel sauce and spaghetti...essentially, carbonara.

Meanwhile, I've been checking out Lunapads (google them if you're interested) and scheming to get some more money from Ebay. Soda crystals are on my list of things to get this weekend. I used Lunapads years ago and loved them but its not necessary for the next few months. I have a plan to buy some later in the year after little wyrm arrives.

My own personal maxim : not a penny more than necessary...

  • Loving this thread and thank you for making me think.

Unfortunately do need 3 sets of kids shoes socks slippers ...Weirdly 7 yr old & 4 yr old girls have same shoe size! & 1 boy set. But will be recycling a present for their friends party and making a card.

Firewyrm put in warm socks, slipper socks even better. And food as nothing will be open if after hours - cereal bars are ideal. And dry shampoo for those first photos - I forgot .

Firewyrm I've just googled Lunapads- have to say I'm a big fan of my moon cup. Can not imagine how much I've already saved!
feeling very proud tonight, went to Ald! For the 1st time in ages, got 90% of this week's carefully planned shopping and didn't touch the dangerous middle aisle or the treats aisle. It is so much harder in there tho when you can't just avoid the aisle totally as you can in bigger shops!
Also, discovered today that my library service do free eBooks- definitely a good way to save me some cash, esp as we've just cancelled our cable tv in the name of money saving too.
Catshark, I would totally have replaced the dish too. Tho I'm surprised they don't go on the hob.

    .

I had lunapads for a long time but I lost them in the last move. I have however found a supplier of panyliners on Etsy and I am very happy with those. This pregnancy has done something terrible to my internal chemistry so a daily pantyliner is a requirement for me at the moment. I stopped using Lunapads when I had an IUD and effectively ceased to have periods, but I think I'm not going to bother with one after littleWyrm is born, so back to pads again. I've been reading about the moodcup and I'm not squeamish, its just I dont quite know if it would work for me. They look awfully uncomfortable. I dont like Tampons (never have) and so was thinking of just going back to my old friend Lunapads or something similar. Personally, I love the feeling of cloth and having used washable nappies, pose no issues to me at all.

So, at the risk of asking for too much information....how does the cup work for you?
