I made a toasted cheese sandwich in the microwave
I toasted both bits of bread then put one in the microwave with the cheese on it (for 1 minute) while I buttered the other. Now I know it works I may bring in some sliced red onion.
I *had* planned on value plum tomatoes on toast (inspired by someone on this thread :T ) until I discovered there's no tin opener. I'm trying to work out whether buying a cheap tin opener is an investment or just me looking for a shopping opportunityMake £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

This morning I thought 'Oh i really can't be a%sed to make lunch' but then thought that if I didn't I wouldn't be able to come on here and report!
So another £3 saved for me.
Ds normally takes £3 to school with him for lunch. This is really important for him as he finds lunchtimes really stressful (Aspergers) and it gives him something to spend his time on....queing up etc! I've told him he can only take £2.50 a day from now on. So 50p saved there.
Total so far; £8.50 for two work days. Unbelievable.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Hello Kittiej and everyone.
Hope you are well. I have yet to read back and see what you've been taking to lunch. I have been busy for the past couple of days so have not been on here much.
First day back to work for me today so am declaring 1 take lunch to work day :-)
I will be making tuna, mayo and onion on brown bread for tomorrow. Yummy.

Question everyone - I just bought a multipack of kids Smart fruit (apple slices & grapes) bags from M'sons but their use by date is today. Do you think these will be ok to freeze & pack in my lunchbox on the day they're to be consumed? At only 9p for a pack of 5 of these fruit bags I had to grab them. I'll have to eat them all tonight if not!
I've just gotten a bit carried away in the shop looking for lunchbox bits. 20 small bags of crisps for £3, so that works out as 15p a packet, 9 cartons of own brand fruit juice for £2 , so they're 22p each, a selection of own brand chocolate bars 15 for £1.40 so they're only 9p each. I've still got some ham & bread left for the remainder of the week & if that runs short I've got couscous in the cupboard & chicken in the freezer.
Also, thanks to Penelopedee's post about freezing cheese I've taken a leaf out of Pavlovs_Dog's book & have pre-grated & portioned the cheese into bags and put them in the freezer ready. When I next cook up some chicken I'll portion that up and add to the cheese bags so I will have about 3 weeks worth of portions ready to mix in with my couscous. It also meant that I saved on washing the grater that many more times too, he he! :T£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

I find I always end up taking sandwiches to work...if I get bored of bread its a cuppa soup (with more bread) or a cup of instant pasta (cant remember the name of the brand i buy).
Anyone else get fed up of coming home from work and making the same thing day in day out all the time?!0 -
Hello all you lunchtastic buddies :j
Well aren't we all doing well? I know many have said you've saved £x amount each day but if you want to go one step further and compare your saving against your earned hourly rate how does it look?
It takes what 5 maybe 10 mins to get everything made or get it all together? eg 365 £8.50 for 2 days or £8.50 for 20 minutes of effort? Not a bad return really, it's like having a mini payrise without having to fight for it :rotfl:
On the flip side say you earned £10 per hour and bought a £5 meal deal each day, 5 days a week. You would have to work 2.5 hours to pay for your lunch!
So Candlewick how can we keep you motivated? What about if Betty shares some mince pies with youKeep battling, it will only get better.
Twiggy why not eat some and freeze the rest? that way if the frozen ones go mushy at least you will have had some of the packs. not sure about freezing grapes, I'm wondering if the water content will burst them and turn them to mush when they defrost *shrugs*.
I'm a bit tired tonight so I apologise for not acknowledging everyone. This blinking accounts assignment is dragging on and on lol.
Just think of the savings everyone, just think of those lovely £'s you can keep in your own pockets instead of giving them to some retailer itching to get their hands on your hard earned.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -
Thanks Kittiej :-)
I love the savings analagies!
I am sure it's because I have recharged my batteries with being off work but I have lunch planned this week as follows:
Thursday is mushroom risotto soup (although I am having reservations about this, see below) and Friday I am making egg mayo with cress. I shall need to buy the cress but at 21p a pot I will deduct that out of my savings.
I am sorry I added the additional mushrooms to my pasta sauce though as the mushrooms didn't freeze very well. I couldn't decide if it was all of them or just the shitake ones but I won't be doing that again. I can't help wondering if my soup has been affected so will have to see on Thursday.
