Juno – sounds like you’re making pretty bigs changes at the mo – well done on you for tackling the convenience food! Any reduction in the amount of that stuff anyone eats is awesome, and will have huge health benefits. A huge pat on the back for that one. Don’t mis-understand me, I’m partial to a take away, McDs and fry up as much as the next but I’m trying to be really good as the food is really damaging my pocket (and therefore debt busting abilities) and and I’ve thundered on weight over the last years when I’ve kept ‘treating myself’ to take outs – whoops. My next step will be to make my lunches healthier as I go along this challenge J
Betty – your post made me chuckle – loving the Peppa Pig spaghetti post. Have you ‘bean’ back to get another since?April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
KittieJ, I have to log off now and do work (work? work?? how dare they expect that... hehe) but did see the post about 3 fav lunches quickly and had to stop reading - I'll read the rest of the thread tonight but otherwise let me know how I can help (if it's needed - not trying to tread on toes or anything
)

I plan to buy a loaf of bread on a Monday and 5 tins of soup (from a supermarket, not a lunchy/snack shop) and stick with that till payday.
Keeping the stuff in my work drawer too to side-step my regular "not enough time to make something" in the morning!
And I'm off!
5 cans of soup (RRP 59p, 400g size) in Morrison's for £2, plus I had to get the only microwave-safe £1 soup bowl I could find in Poundland! (Got a nice Warburtons mixed seed loaf there, too). Fortunately there was a can opener in the staff kitchen!
so.. first week, with the one-off soup bowl: £4 lunches!0 -

And welcome Shortie to stopping those oh sooo yummy takeways but ooohhh sooo bad as well lol. Keep us updated how you do on the takeaway front, 5 days and counting here :T0 -

Still, at least I'm saving money!Well it's lunchtime, which naturally brought me to this thread to have a nosey at what's been going on since I last visited! I've just had my ham sandwich (bought a half price gammon joint at the weekend & slow cooked it for sandwiches/snacks/dinner, it only cost £5 and is all mine!). I also bought a multipack of crisps and managed to resist indulging in them over the weekend.
:rotfl:
I always buy a joint of ham and boil it - so much nicer and more economical than pre-packed ham. I even bought a meat slicer so I could slice it finer than I could with a knife (though Hubby liked my doorstop slices of ham)
I hope you don't mind me popping into your thread. I always take my own lunch to work and always have but it's nice to find new and exciting ideas.
I quickly get bored of butties for lunch and often make soup to take to work - usually leek and potato or ham and mixed bean soup, sometimes I throw in some small pasta shapes to bulk it out.0 -
Homemade pasty for me today - made with left over pastry from yesterday and I made some veg soup. Very nice. Also just portioned up some tropical mix into handy little boxes. Should be quiche and salad tomorrow if the plan goes well. I need to use up the Stilton from Christmas - so Stilton and red onion quicke coming up.
Really enjoying reading your posts. I don't take to many sarnies into work as I have a mild alergy to to much wheat. Hence the salads and soups.
Keep it up everyone.:beer:0 -
£5 saved today. DS came to work with me so would of been 2x £3 meal deal.
Took our own Ham, salad and Mayo on home made mutigrain, crisps and a banana.
Would of been £6 saved but forgot drink for DS.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Welcome to helejenkins :hello:I know we will all make her feel welcome. I have added you to the list btw.
WelshWoofer - sometimes it pays to be organised lol
clairey em - I need to find a recipe for coronation chicken, though I would use Quorn. I love the sound of that
Twiggy and AFK I think I might have to buy ham to cook in the slow cooker for my husband, he loves stuff like that, as does the mad dog
Florida there's nothing wrong with lemon curd sarnies if you like them - and it saves you money of course
Hello Shortie :j I wondered where you'd gone! You most definitely won't be treading on my toes by helping out, I thank you for asking. All the lovely peeps on here have been saying what their favourite three lunches are so I was thinking of making lists under different headings - savoury/ meat sandwiches, sweet sandwiches, other types of lunch eg salad, soups. I can't really concentrate on it atm because I am really busy but hopefully this weekend I can devote some time to it. Once the lists have been compiled they should be easy to maintain (in theory anyway) so if you would like to make a start then please feel freeI can copy and paste into the first post then.
If anyone else would like to pick up a category then please shout out. Otherwise keep up the good work you have started :T
Hey his missus - feel free to drop by anytime you want, everyone is welcome :j
Hi Fruittea, glad you're enjoying the thread. Maybe you could let us in on some of your recipes? show us some pics perhaps?
Fabulous stuff 365, and you are forgiven the £1 spend :rotfl:
and finally Betty Crumble, what can I say except - mince pies
Well my little update, I took chilli and rice in my little bitty flask and it was great, still really warm so I am well chuffed. when I get a chance I will stock up on soup and if I buy some Quorn pieces I can make my version of Quorn satay which I love.
Keep it going guys you're doing great.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000
