This morning I thought 'Oh i really can't be a%sed to make lunch' but then thought that if I didn't I wouldn't be able to come on here and report!

So another £3 saved for me.

Ds normally takes £3 to school with him for lunch. This is really important for him as he finds lunchtimes really stressful (Aspergers) and it gives him something to spend his time on....queing up etc! I've told him he can only take £2.50 a day from now on. So 50p saved there.

Total so far; £8.50 for two work days. Unbelievable.
Are you giving him something else to take in to make up for the 50p so a piece of fruit or a small chocolate bar, or a carton of juice? Sorry for being nosey! :A

    Evening all

No lunch needs to be made for tomorrow as I only ate one of my rolls today - I ate one before a meeting, was in the meeting nearly 2 hrs and felt queasy when I came out so popped the other roll into the fridge in work. This queasiness if bogging me off now, but hey it's putting me off my food at times so most likely quite helpful for losing some weight :rotfl:

I need to work out breakfast for tomorrow, I'm worse with breakfasts than I am lunches and I'm already bored (I have no natural yoghurt in as I forgot to buy it when I did my unplanned weekly shop curtesy of the MIL - I could just eat natural yoghurt on it's own :o) I want to try the toast suggestion at some point but I've not got myself into enough of a swing in the mornings yet, whoops.

Breakfast could be a small banana - fine but not quite a breakfast on it's own. Ah well, at worst I'll just grab something random from the cupboard to go with it..

I like the microwaved cheese on toast idea - I wonder if that would work with toast made the night before, and then microwaved at work at lunchtime? (we have no toaster in work)

Lunch will be the remaining roll and 'something' dug out of the Chrimbo snacks box, or a few biccies

Today's lunch was bacon and tomato sandwich using wholemeal bread. Lovely! :)

Been making hubby double the amount of sarnies and he's still buying a roll at work! But he never has any problems with putting on too much weight so if it's saving a bit for him then thats some progress.

I've ordered a flask to put some tea in. I've been using my food flask but thought I'd get another one. It's a Thermos red flask (think its called their vintage range in Red or Green). They're dishwasher safe too. So although it's pricey (think around £15) my savings in not buying a lunch out have already paid for it. Makes you think doesn't it? About what else we can be spending our hard earned money on.

NO! Cos I'm mean !....He needs to lose weight and he buys a pasta pot for £1.50 and so I know he spends the rest on rubbish and drinks. Tonight we have had a chat and he has agreed to take £2 and a drink from home. He can help himself to fruit, we always have some, but he never does. SO that's the compromise, he can have his pasta pot and 50p to spend on 'junk' and take a drink from home.

    We'll see how it goes...

Have you tried bacon and banana? My mum had it in South Africa where apparently it's pretty common. I took some convincing to try but it's lush.

  • Well had my usual gammon sandwich but I am not liking the unsmoked gammon joint I had to get, much prefer the smoked one I usually have!!! Anyway its eatable at least lol.

So this is the 7th day of not buying lunch and not buying takeaways and I am pretty proud of my self as I have been meaning to do this for the past year but could never be bothered but now I have you guys here for support and to yell at me when I fall of the wagon lol its far easier.

So its not an exact figure but thats £67 saved this week:eek:

I was putting all my credit card figures in my spread sheet last night and saw that in just one month I had spent £250 on takeaways alone :eek::o:(

So that amount of money saved is going to be very handy :D

Flaming Heck AFK that's a phenomenal amount!!!!

365 does your son only like certain foods? My son is going through the process of being diagnosed for Aspergers and he only likes certain foods.

MAM has your hubby got hollow legs :rotfl:

Shortie - hoping the queasiness passes soon :( if you are off your appetite it can make you not want to even think about food I know.

CW - hope the mushroom soup turns out to be OK. Carcluster made me laugh earlier - why is mushroom soup wobbly :rotfl:

Was tempted to get takeaway on the way home from work tonight but instead made tuna sweetcorn pasta. Made a bit extra to take to work tomorrow but slightly misjudged and have enough to last a while.

Am fed up of asparagus soup. How come I can have mushroom all week and love it, but asparagus is awful after 2 days? Also spent the last few hours of work declaring I was starving but didn't give up and buy more food :-)

Have no idea how much tuna pasta cost. Tuna was bargain, - about £1.something for 3cans. Sweetcorn is some weird brand from b and m so must also be bargain but really can't remember. pasta is free due to ultimate moneysaving combination of coeliac disease and underactive thyroid! Is no fun though so don't be too jealous.

I am still doing well, taking soup or sarnies everyday to work. Ds and Dh both take a pack up as well so getting through bread like there is no tomorrow. DD bless her made a loaf today, and my friend brought a box of mince pies in to work to share so free pudding too.

How funny, I didn't even think of the difference between smoked & unsmoked, I only ever buy unsmoked meat anyway! I'm nearly all the way through the joint I bought, but am also getting a bit bored of it, so tonight I've made one sandwich and made some home made egg mayo for another sandwich. I actually struggled to get it all in my lunchbox after todays bargain spree.

Well done though, I saw your savings so far & takeaway totals, that's a huge amount saved! Ironically as I'm eating well for lunch every day (I'm a picker usually, a little and often gal), I've found I'm not really very hungry in the evening, so I neither fancy takeaway or a full meal of any kind, so although I may be spending a little more on home made lunches (compared to ad hoc snacks from my drawer at work) I'm saving on the amount of food I'm consuming in the evening.

I'm also trying to give up smoking and found that the activity of preparing my lunchbox for the next day is a welcome distraction to keep me busy! :j
