    Morning All,

I've not managed to bring in lunch everyday so far but my spending has definitely been curtailed! I'm keeping a log of how much I spend on lunches in my sig.

On a Tuesday morning (I don't work Mondays) I always buy 4 apples and 4 bananas for the week which is about £2.15.

Yesterday I had to go out at lunch-time so I didn't have time to heat the soup I'd brought in. I bought a Tuna Nicoise salad in the shop. Today I'm having the soup with a bread roll. I told DH he'd have to make his own sandwiches this morning as I was running late but I bet he wont

    Oh and I've lost 2lb too :T

    Happy eating!

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all!

Well, I had planned to make some pasta with ham and a tomato sauce for my lunch today but we went out for tea last night and I was so stuffed when we got home that I couldn't face making food. This morning I've just thrown the ham into a butty to have with a cup a soup for lunch, nothing very exciting.
  • I work a lot from home these days so don't really have the need for packed lunches like I used to. However, when I did take my lunch to work, I was always looking for inspiration. I'm quite a visual person so I always liked my lunches to look nice and pretty! :o I had a nosey at this group on Flickr:
    http://www.flickr.com/groups/laptop_lunches/
These people post pictures of their lunches every day. They are all using specific lunch boxes, (of course, I had one :o ) but obviously you could use any containers. I found it really useful for ideas - think there are over 9000 lunch pics! - something for everyone:D
  • Another packed lunch for me. I haven't spent a penny on breakfast, lunches or coffee saving me a whopping £55.20 since 2nd January.

If I can keep this up for the whole month I will have saved £202.40 by 31st January!

Hi all, reporting in that I've just munched my leftover-from-yesterday cheese and chilli jam roll - I know, I know my life really is that exciting..

Apologies, it's been a wired (and weird) morning and evening last night, trying to work out if Mr Shortie was about to gain me another £10k of debt and it's left me with a warped sense of humour

Still, the roll was delish, and so are my breakfast cookies, and no doubt the 3 mini Mars that I found left over from a selection box :)

My afternoon snack will then be my breakfast banana (I couldn't stomach food this morning with everything going on)

I have also had to withdraw some money for some payments I didn't realise were due to the school and have £6 left over - I feel rich after having an empty purse since Christmas :rotfl: So I've decided I need a treat and one day this week or next I'm going to meet a friend for lunch and drag her somewhere really cheap and crusty (think of the usual central London sit-in prices...) to have lunch :D

Hey, does anyone remember around 10-12 years ago there were things called (I think) snack pots? I rememebr them as I worked in Mr T at the time while I was at Uni... they were dried mashed potato with dehydrated bits added to them. Not healthy I realise but quite tasty, especially if you needed food to travel with that just needed hot water. Does anyone else ever make anything similar that doesn't need pre cooking, using smash? I'm a tad flummouxed - garvy I can see that working, adding scraps of meat from a roast (kept in a seperate bag and added after the mash has rehydrated) but onion would need to be pre-softened, and... well.. I'm having a total blank suddenly on how they could work in a hugely lazy work lunch way?

Sainsburys did some mash pots (own brand) but I haven't looked recently. If you were to cook up a bit of meat, slice it and portion it, bagged up with a bit of onion gravy, and then take a bag and pour it over a pot once the mash was wet again... that could work. Then again, buy a few spuds and make the mash too. I think I might do some mini meals at the weekend, this thread is inspiring me!

NO! Cos I'm mean !....He needs to lose weight and he buys a pasta pot for £1.50 and so I know he spends the rest on rubbish and drinks. Tonight we have had a chat and he has agreed to take £2 and a drink from home. He can help himself to fruit, we always have some, but he never does. SO that's the compromise, he can have his pasta pot and 50p to spend on 'junk' and take a drink from home.

    We'll see how it goes...
Oh I see. On Slimming World people talk about a pasta and sauce (in a packet) - theres one or two varieties that are supposed to not too bad calorie/fat wise. Not sure if one of those would help (if you mean hot pasta that is! :)

Pub lunch today so no savings to report. But that was always part of the plan, pub lunch one day a week with rest of the team.

Edit: bacon and banana, that sounds interesting!

Just out of interest how many lunches do you make a day? I do 3 mon, tues, thurs & fri and 2 on wed. Kinda feels rewarding seeing the lunch bags lined up in the fridge.

Oh and a cob is a roll, bap, barm cake just in case anyone's confuzzled lol

    Evening to you all

Am declaring today (Wednesday) a take lunch to work day, so day 2 today and my lunch was lovely. I have even managed to forego my favourite crisps for 2 days. I am counting today as a saving day as I often get to Wednesday and buy lunch. I estimate £3.45 based on a Tuna sandwich and a packet of salt & vinegar crisps from Pret. I am sad that I even know how much the Pret menu is!

Tomorrow is the mushroom risotto soup and I am not fancying the idea of that now :-( I have weetabix in the cupboard at work which I may have to resort to if it hasn't frozen well. I also found two Limoncello deserts stuffed in the back of the fridge (bbd 18.01) so will take one of those as well.

Shortie, I have never heard or seen those snackpots, only the pot noodle types but love chillie jam.

Florida123, that is quite a saving already - well done you.

Naomim, well done on the weight loss!

Laughingcow, I love that cheese. I may have to have that on Friday (instead of my planned egg mayo) with some S*ainsburys BGTY crackers with gherkins. I also like them with pickled onions but I don't think eating those in the office would be fair to those around me :rotfl:
