Is the balance a lot? Could you negotiate with the Funeral Director to spend more on the funeral to use up the difference?0

It would be a lot. Probably about £1k - £1.5k

(itemise each there might be something that can be done).0 -
I will be getting the full breakdown in writing shortly. Went through it at the funeral home but haven't got my copy yet
Think it might be too late to add much at this stage?
£1.5k extra would be hard to get up to thoughI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

oh sorry I thought you meant the funeral bill
Think I quoted the insurance totals earlier
AXA - £1920
Phoenix - £2464
Funeral - Around £3200 which leaves insurance money left over
Funeral bill would be paid directly, but the rest that is left over could not be paid to her bank as it is frozen and they won't write a cheque.
She has about £396 in the bank but I would be paying for the funeral directly from the insurersI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Did they actually say it couldn't be paid into her bank account? I'm sure last time I had to do this it was possible to get payments made into the frozen account but not out again. Check with the bank.0 -

Filled in the Funeral directors details, but then you have to complete the section for where to send the rest of the money according to the lady on the phone. Apparently all the money has to be claimed at the same time
So £xx to the funeral director and the remaining £xx to a bank or cheque (but not my mums bank or a cheque saying "the late")
Have you asked to speak to anyone higher than the person who answers the phone in the first instance? They are putting you in a ridiculous situation!
Ask to speak to a someone senior and tell them the surplus money has to go into your mother's account - they either send a cheque made out to "the late" or arrange a direct transfer.
If need be start to sound hysterical and try a few tears!0 -
Sorry if this has already been suggested.
Is it possible for the full amount to be paid to the FD and for him to send a cheque for the balance to the bank in the name of 'the late'....I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
