It's a statement of affairs, I've included the link for you (be really honest with your figures to get a true picture)

Have you looked at transferring the balances of your credit cards to an interest free card? If the new limit is lower than all your cards together then just move the highest interest balances for now. BUT you must ensure you pay off the zero interest card before the end of the period...or transfer to another zero interest card!
Also, i would definitely phone Inland revenue abt having to repay their overpayment, especially when they admitted it was their fault!
Have you checked whether your employer will let you "sacrifice" part of your salary for childcare vouchers? You save abt 10% on childcare costs and most places these days do take the electronic childcare vouchers.
Have you asked mortgage lender for "mortgage holiday" for a set period to let you pay off credit cards? possibly even ask to pay interest only for a set period to clear your cards.
Also, check out just what you are getting on that life insurance...is it an endowment which might have a surrender value? If so, get surrender value then check if you can get more selling the policy on.
Sorry if i am just throwing ideas in here but one might help you.
Bare in mind one thing though to keep you sane....you do have equity in your home so that is still a safeguard. Though i would be making sure that i kept a note of its valuation up to dat your ex stop paying, so that if you do sell he does not get a share of the profit from that date on!
Good luck, keep your chin up, you have your kids and you never know what is round the corner..good things happen too. Don't rely on meeting a man to help you out tho; concentrate on loving and respecting yourself and your kids for now.
OOOPS just read full diary and most of what i suggest has been suggested. sorry0 -
julie, you probably know this but there is a forum on this site for flight delays split under company name.
Also, have you considered getting a nanny instead of paying for these childminding services?
If you advertised you might actually find someone looking for a place to stay in return for childminding (the two boys could share a room if you don't have a spare room for her/him).
Also, you say you are in an expensive location, have you considered renting out your parking space? Sure Martin has a link to renting out car parking space.:money:0 -
I would echo the advice of the above poster on looking for a nanny. I was in similar position to you. I lived an hours commute from my place of work and whilst the older two were at nursery/school the other needed full time care. I left for work around 7am and returned around 5.30pm.
By employing a nanny you could transfer your children to a local state school. She can pick up/drop off, look after them in the comfort of your own home, prepare their packed lunches, give them a cooked meal at night.
Whilst mine were at school my nanny would then take on tasks such as washing and ironing which also helped me out. They formed a close attachment and never felt like I was palming them off to a less cosy environment.
My nephew attends a private school and my sister often comments about the additional expenses attached to going there which I have not had to carry with mine in the state system.
I am in no way making a judgement about your choices but it could be a way of lowering expenses and taking care of drop offs/pick ups and meals etc all in one go.
Good Luck you sound very positive.0 -
I did consider a nanny from the start but my house isn't that big so it would be a bit cramped with someone else living here. I've worked out so many figures and the private school really was the cheapest option.
I don't have any fear of ex claiming or trying to claim any funds from the house if I sell it as, as per my previous post, following the divorce there is a court order stating he has no legal or equitable rights to the property. If he'd had any claim against it I would never have won the court cases his creditors raised trying to put a charge against it. I think I may have already mentioned that I can't get a repayment holiday from my mortgage. Tried that too!
I'm not sure if I could get another card with a 0% might be worth a try? I'll look around.
The life insurance is purely life insurance. It is as high as it is because I still have my ex husband insured on it. I felt it was prudent to do this all the time he was still named
I've had a look at the thread on here for the flight delay claim but need to sit down with it properly.

Just noticed this bit of your post! Trust me there is no way I would let a man anywhere near my home or my children for that matter! It took a man to leave me in this mess (certainly when I consider £40k of the mortgage I was left with went into his business which he ran into the ground to make himself unemployed after our split!). I've dated a couple of guys in the four years I have been on my own but generally tend to keep guys at arms length of I'm honest. Just looked at the delayed flights thread for Monarch at its not looking great so I will give it a go but not hold my breath! Extra work didn't come off this weekend which is a pain as I could really use the money, particularly as the boiler has cost me £185.10 this month! A hi light that I need an emergency fund for sure! The early pay in December didn't help either

Hi Julie, have been reading your thread from the beginning, just wanted to say good luck to you and your boys
You are doing so well, it sounds like you totally have your head screwed on and are so determined.
I'm looking into this delayed flight thing too, we were delayed coming back from Spain in 2010, they just cancelled our flight because the pilot called in sick! It was me, my eldest son, ds2 wasn't born then, and my sister and her 2 boys, we'd been to stay a my parents place with them for a week. It was a complete nightmare, the holiday had been quite 'trying' and we were glad to be getting back! luckily our parents were there to help at the airport but it was awful. They put us on a flight the next day so we had practically the whole day in the airport until they shipped us off to the nearest hotel for the night. Granted, it was a brand new shiney holiday inn but we all were so stressed by that point it didn't make up for it!
Our only problem is we haven't got the flight details now, cant find them anywhere so got to look into that. Would be so worth a few quid in compensation!
Good luck hun xxFull time working mum to 2 boys

Thankfully it's an ongoing thing. Might have an opportunity again for an evening this week and maybe one or two at the weekend. Could have just used the extra money this week but I'll make do! Went to my mums today, she only lives round the corner so could walk and it saved me a meal
Money has come through from PayPal so that's £50. Will be living out of the cupboard and freezer this week for sure but will need fuel for the car. It all gets claimed back but I have to pay for it nowI've raised it so often with my company and so have other people but it just seems to fall on deaf ears. End up carrying the company for a couple of hundred pounds each month. Not great really.
Anyway, I've listed a few more things on eBay so I'll see how they go!
The flight thing looks like a long haul (excuse the cross reference) Monarch seem to be being less helpful than some of the others. I wonder if it will be like the PPI thing? Banks held off then realised they had to play ball and seem better now? Hoping so!
On a really light note, I've just had to fend off advances from my friend's brother  He's 12 years younger than me!!!!!
