Oh no what an awful time you've had
at least your little dog is on the mend now.
Take some time out from the debtbusting just to give yourself a bit of a breather. You've already made a good start so don't be too harsh on yourself. It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey0 -
Dont despair. If you ask they may deal direct with the insurance company. My vets practice do NOT do direct payments but when I asked as one of our dogs has ongoing high bills they did agree.0

I think you are almost there. Just don't give up what you've been doing. It's not gonna be easy and stree-free.
Just like any successes there will be a lot of bumps and challenges.
Use whatever resources or ways you have tried and if doesn't work try other ways.
Can't give you a specific advise because you know your goal and you are almost there already.
So hope this help. Cheers!0 -
Funny isn't it how you think you have answered a thread and then you read through and realise you have actually been cheering from the sidelines.
So sorry to hear about your dog. Pity the vet couldn't just claim straight off your insurance, rather than you pay:(. I am sure though that they must see a lot of people who are in this situation. And offer help when they can. Also check with the pet insurer, as maybe you can get them to change their minds if you explain you don't have the money to pay the vet up front, this is why you had insurance....

Edited to add. That I would still consider a DMP for this debt you have. Yes I know you have a bonus every month. But that is ONLY JUST getting your affairs to balance. One of the advantages of doing this would be that you could build up your emergency fund with the bonus money. Even if you did this for 6 months, then you would have pretty much any major problem covered eg car going bang and needin a new one or boiler doing the same, or major appliance. As it stands now yes you are scraping by each month, but as the above shows with you poor dog. Any major expense on top and you are a bit stuffed. Just my two pennies worth....I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Thanks for all your replies. The good news is my dog has hopefully turned the corner now. He's starting to eat little bits and although his bloods aren't great still they are improving. Even the vet said yesterday that he is amazed he's still with us!
I've decided to sell some jewellery to try and find some of the fees. When I think about it realistically, yes it's lovely to have but for the most part it is sat in its box hidden. I do have a couple of really high value items and although I will be sad to see them go if I'm honest I've probably worn them maybe 6 times in 9 years so I'm thinking in the need vs want/like basis here. Also when I do get the money back I can put that towards my debts and I'm another step forward, so that is a positive. Plus of course we have our lovely little dog back:o
Chevalier Thank you for your thoughts on the DMP. It is something I thought about although only briefly to be honest. Couple of things put me off. Firstly I'm guessing it would have an impact on my credit rating and strangely, I suppose because I've never missed payments or made late payments, my rating is still pretty good. Secondly my childcare consists of private schooling. Not because I want my children privately educated but because I'm a full time working single mum and there are no Pre or after school clubs in my area. When I added up the cost of a childminder for the additional hours morning and evening plus travelling, plus school meals (included in school fees), plus swimming lessons, football clubs and ballet lessons etc (included in school fees, plus I don't have to find the time to take them), it actually worked out cheaper to send them down this route. I'm not sure I would be allowed this cost in a DMP? That would mean uprooting the boys and trying to find them a school place. To be honest my local school is awful! Terrible reports! Plus then I might struggle to get them back in to the private school when I'm sorted out as they always have a waiting list. I'm stuck a bit between a rock and a hard face sometimes.
Once the dog is safe I will be able to start my extra work again on the weekends the boys are away! Need to start some major decluttering too. That seems to have taken a bit of a sideline too
I still haven't received anything from the CSA! My £5 per weeks (:j) was due to start at the beginning of January but because my poor, penniless, jobless, ex took himself off for 8 weeks holiday over Dec/Jan his benefit got stopped. Have now had a letter to say I should start getting it next week! I'm going to put that extra £5 as an overpayment each week! I haven't had anything from him for the last two years so its not as though I'll miss it now.
Still need to try and find my reservation number for my Monarch flight that was delayed! I've checked the website but it doesn't show! They've probably deleted them all to stop people looking them up and claiming! I know it won't be a quick win but it was 4 people so would be well worth the wait!

Firstly a doggy update. He is still in the Specialist hospital but gradually improving. He is eating more and apparently seems happier. He is still in IV fluids and although all his liver function has improved according to his bloods on Friday, his kidney function has decreased. The vet said this may just be a blip, however, there is a risk that the muscle damage he had has released metabolises into his bloodstream which can cause liver damage
They are going to leave him on IV fluids for the weekend and check his blood again on Monday.
I've negotiated with them about the insurance as explained I was struggling to find the nearly £5k upfront. They were really helpful so I'm now giving them £2k and all the insurance money will go to them and they will pay me back. Still have to sell the jewellery though!
Having a fairly quiet weekend this weekend, although had a party with DS2 this afternoon. I had managed to buy a half price hot wheels car a while back so that was sorted! DS1 has a party on Thursday so will need to go and look for a bargain gift for a 7 year old boy
Tomorrow will be lunch at my parents, and watching the rugby as the weather forecast isn't too good.
Must must must make some more eBaying a priority again too. Well it's been a tough week and a bit. Our poor dog is still in hospital. I was hoping to be able to pick him up on Monday but they have been concerned about his kidney function now so he's still there!
Having made the decision last week to sell some jewellery and bravely sorted out some things (some of which I really was upset to be getting rid of) I then left them sat on the kitchen side for the weekend wondering if there was another wayWell today I bit the bullet, picked up the box and took them into town. Although feeling a bit sad I now have £1,800 towards the vets bills. As the vet has agreed to make a direct claim if I pay them £2,000 that covers pretty much what I have to find. So I do have a little bit of a sense of relief. Just need him to get better and home now so the bill doesn't go any higher
I am desperately waiting for my sales figures from my day job to come through so that I can work out if I'm due any bonus. Hoping to do some extra work at the weekend too and also need to get on top of the eBaying thing again! I've just been feeling very demotivated. I make little overpayments and try and stay positive but then when you're hit with something like this it kind of makes you wonder what the point is. Anyway, I know the point is that I need to keep on top of this, keep moving in the right direction even if it is like knocking through a wall with a nail file at the minute and just be grateful I was lucky enough to have something I could sell to find the money I needed.MBNA [STRIKE]£2,029[/STRIKE] £1,145 Virgin [STRIKE]£8,712[/STRIKE] £7,957 Sainsbury [STRIKE]£6,870[/STRIKE] £5,575 M&S [STRIKE]£10,016[/STRIKE] £9,690 Barclaycard [STRIKE]£11,951[/STRIKE] £11,628 CTC [STRIKE]£7,629[/STRIKE] £6,789 Mortgage £[STRIKE]182,828[/STRIKE] £171,670

Hi Julie, just been reading your thread and I identify with you in many ways....have been having a very odd sense of deja vu :-)
I'm in a similar situation except the issue with school/childcare fees; my two eldest have flown the nest and my dd is 15. I too have the issue with an ex still on the mortgage, and although my balance is much lower than yours, I'm stuck on the SVR as Halifax won't remove the ex from the mortgage and he won't agree to me remortgaging. Im stuck between a rock and a hard place...you would think that when you get divorced (and it took me over 3 years due to the idiot playing stupid games with the courts) you free yourself from joint fiancial encumberance but its rarely the case.
Keep on at the CSA if your payments are late, the more you chase them the more likely they are to act. Had to go down the route of appeal with them last year due to a miscalculation of my payments, I was right, they were wrong...back payment due in my favour..go me !
Re; Tax Credits..when they were first brought in, I was massively overpaid as the morons had put down that my then husband was working full time but earning zero..despite me giving them the correct figures etc. Told them many times we were being paid to much but to no avail, so we spent it. Roll on a year and they wanted their money back, threatening me with court action, bailiffs etc.
I asked my MP to get involved and he was fantastic, as it was their error they couldn't ask me to repay and the debt was written off. DO pursue this, in writing, ask your MP to get involved to check liability for an error that was theirs. If you didn't know the figures were wrong, how could you possibly tell them about it ?
Re; Doggie woes.....oh your poor little poodle, I so empathise with you. I have 3 rescue dogs, 2 pomeranians and a bichon/Chuhuahua cross and they are my babies. This last Saturday morning, my little blind pom, (yep, to add the the problems, he cant see diddly squat) dislocated his left hind leg and it was hanging out of the socket.
I've never heard a dog scream before, but he did, it was horrific. Had to wait two hours for the vet to open and they inform me he needs a hip replacement at approximately 4.5k ! I have insurance but maximum pay out is 2k per condition, plus it turns out this is a previous condition and my insurance almost certainly wont cover it.
Upon checking his rescue centre papers, the dislocation is noted 3 months before I rehomed him....so Ive a badly injured dog, no insurance and no money to pay for the surgery....up dog creek without a paddle springs to mind !
I approached the rescue centre who agreed to see him and have funded his operation....I am absolutely overwhelmed and so grateful they have done this...just means a 200 mile round trip as I am in Hampshire and they are in Kent...small price to pay though. I've been chucking money at them as a donation and have agreed to do some fundraising as a thank you although I will be forever indebted to them.
I shall watch your debtbusting with interest and pray for your doggie's speedy recovery.
