Doesn't matter who, or where, where premises open to the public there is a duty of care.

Of course it matters! The man was an electrician who was electrocuted carrying out his job, it had nothing to do with M&S, he wasn't employed by them, he wasn't using their equipment and he wasn't in an area of the store open to the public. HIS employers had a duty of care to him to make sure he had the correct H&S training and equipment, not M&S. It will be his employers insurance company paying out, not M&S.

That's all a very far cry from your very inaccurate claim of:

Hang on Peachy - I didn't CLAIM that a customer was electrocuted; I pointed out that it was REPORTED that a customer was electrocuted; which it was, on the BBC.

There remains, however, a duty of care to customers (and staff) in a store.

  • It is ironic that McDonalds warn that their coffee may contain hot liquids but serve up these drinks in premises that are not structurally safe.

You have to admire the dedication of the 'restaurant' staff though, even with a caved in roof they refuse to disappoint their customers by closing. The show must go on!

Eating in McDonalds does not make someone become a chav.

Thinking people who eat in McDonalds are chavs does make someone a snob.
Please tell me the positives of getting a small child hooked on McDonalds.

Might as well get them smoking while your at it.

And the report was corrected, within hours, to confirm that it wasn't a customer at all, so why even mention the incorrect report?

Perhaps because a report of an electrician being electrocuted while he just happened to be working behind the scenes in a store that he wasn't employed by isn't quite as sensational? Or relevant to this thread?

Again, we still do not know the severity of the situation.

If a polystyrene tile fell off the roof and bumped a kid on the head, it isn't worthy of closing a resteraunt.

You obviously rate the taste and quality of McDonald's if you think a visit is enough to get a small child "hooked".

Seriously absurd in equating McDonalds with smoking.

My original post was "There is nothing wrong with McDonalds (in moderation) for children".

The moderation is the key part of this. Once a month is
    certainly fine.
