2012 seemed to have been a !!!!!! year for lots of people.

2013 can only be better :-)

    I'm going to
finish my degree and be an official clever clogs
finish losing weight (2 stone down, 2.5 stone to go)
carry on progress getting over ex and moving on - be happier and not get upset so much/feel so hurt/obsess about it all.
    move into my own place
make my mind up what to do with my future career/studies and go for it
see my friends and family more
keep up with my writing in a more serious way
finish paying off debts and build up a good level of savings
start using my credit card carefully to rebuild credit rating, paying off in full each month.
[STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. I hope you understand :o

I applaud the concept of this thread and would love to get on board!

For the first time, I'm looking at the new year as a proper SAHM and I'm just starting to appreciate the positives of to. So I've started making a 'life plan', then I stumbled across this!

So far, one big unforeseen positive of not working is that I can listen to the afternoon play on radio 4, whether cat napping, ironing or batch-cooking.

And so far, I've decided that in 2013 I shall walk more in the great outdoors, spend more quality time with special friends and family and eat more healthily.

But back to drafting this life plan ... More positive goals to follow!

Welcome scotrae, they are great aren't they,I only listen to Radio Four at home as I find I can learn so much whilst doing something else.I bake in the kitchen whilst listening to all sorts of stuff and learn about whats going on in the world without the need to buy a newspaper.Woman's Hour is a great programme (often listened to by chaps as well I believe:D )and I love Moneybox with all its hints. There is a great programme on in the afternoon whilst I am in my car waiting to pick up my grandsons from school called The Kitchen Cabinet which is a quite lighthearted look at different foods and ordinary folks ideas.

I enjoy the News programme on Saturday lunchtime and wouldn't be without The Archers on a Sunday morning. My car radio ,my kitchen radio and even my TV all broadcast R4 and sometimes when, like me, you are alone indoors its been my window on the world.often far more entertaining than TV.

I'm so pleased at all the folks ideas that are coming out .Today I am still at DDs and I have grabbed some computer time before the boys get up so I'm catching up with all of your comments. As I have to look after the boys today from 9.30 until 4.00 I am going to see if we can do some collective thinking about what sotrts of ideas they may have ,bearing in mind that we are talking about a 12,11 & 8 year old,but it might keep them occupied as the forecast is rain and if they are doing something different we won't have any squabbles. It will be interesting to see what they think they can do in the coming year.

New Year resolutions I think fail often because of the word 'resolution' sounds too much like 'It must be done or you are a failure' whereas " have a go at it" sounds much more fun and easier to understand. :D So I am going to 'have a go' at something different and if it doesn't work then I'll 'Have a go' at something else:rotfl:
Good luck everyone and may I wish a very Happy and Healthy New Year to you all
Tomorrow is the start of something new and different for us all
    Cheers chums

  • i am normally a positive person but sometimes i worry over something silly so will try not to anymore a bit of a challenge.

jackie o i love radio 4 you do learn quite a lot whilst you are doing other things it certainly gives you things to think about and to talk about with others.

i want to try and help people more this year in what ever way i can i always try and talk to strangers , out dog walking or in shop queues, or the assistants etc sometimes you may be the only person they have spoken to all day(hopefully not the shop assistants).

a good declutter as well as i believe it can block your mind with the thought of all that stuff everywhere clear house clear mind and makes it easier to clean
You can if you think you can .

Good morning JackieO and all posters :), what a super idea for a thread. I'm going to start my positivity by trying to cut out negative words in my day. It [STRIKE] won't be easy[/STRIKE] (see what I mean?!) will be a challenge to find alternatives at first but will be interesting trying!

I look forward to hearing what ideas your grandsons come up with, children usually see the simple side of things whereas adults thrive on making life complicated.

As another poster said I need to be more sociable, so I've invited some friends to see the New Year in tonight, something I never do. They accepted which is encouraging!

Happy New Year to you and everyone :)
  • What a wonderful idea for a thread JackieO, please may I join in?

2012 has been stressful in parts but rewarding in others. Today I'm going to leave behind those things that were stressful. On the whole are finished so I need to make sure close the door on those things and don't revisit them in my head ;)

OH and I have completely changed our lifestyle over the last few years and are feeling much more relaxed. So the positives we will do for 2013 are:

    • Grow more of our own fruit and veg. 2012 was our first full year of doing this and it has been so rewarding (both in terms of money saving and in having more exercise and things to do during a summer evening). We will be expanding this in 2013 and looking at ways to extend the growing season.
    • Eat more healthily - we eat lots of fruit and veg but also lots of bread, cake and cheese so there will be a major cut back which help both our budget and our waistlines.
    • Work even harder at overpaying our mortgage - we will focus on pulling the mortgage free date forward rather than on the actual amount outstanding (we find this more motivational :D)
    • Take time our to enjoy walks and the countryside - working in the garden has meant we have forgotten to enjoy what else is around us and why we chose to live in the countryside. We need a little more balance ;)
In 2013 I'm aiming to try not to worry about those things that I can't do a thing about and to do those things I've talked about and never got around to doing (e.g. making a rug, stripping and painting furniture, doing more craft work).

Thank you for this thread - it's not about new year resolutions but about lifestyle changes that can make you happier. So of course they will be much easier to do :D

We have had the worst year ever, my daughter was off school for 3 months with really bad asthma, then my FIL was in hospital for weeks with menigintus and we thought we were going to lose him, my old friend is really really poorly with a brain tumour and our bed broke so we had to buy another, my oven packed up etc etc....BUT WE ARE STILL HERE TO TELL THE TALE...and that's got to be a good thing.

I can't denigh I feel 'old and tired' now but we have a roof over our heads and my DH is working and my two teenage girls are doing well at school.

I have four allotments which have been really hard to maintain this year with everything going on...but I have managed it.

I am proud of us for getting through this year and 2013 can surely only be better can't it.

By the way, I've just spent an hour looking back at some of my post since I joined this forum and my goodness I've come a long way and this is something I can now add to list of 'things I'm proud of'.

What a lovely, lovely thread to start the New Year. Thank you JackieO :T

We have had a mixed 2012. Mr PP health issues are a worry but that aside we have many things to be thankful for and I am going to focus on those.

    In 2013 I WILL...

Enjoy my lovely family who are growing up so fast. I have lovely, happy, content kids and I intend to cherish them!

Spend more time with Mum and Dad. We are very close and I do see a lot of them but they are getting on in years and have both had their first real health issues this year and for the first time seem a bit old and frail. They are great fun to be with and seeing more of them will be lovely.

Continue to thank whoever it is that controls things that I have a job that I enjoy and that pays enough to keep us comfortable (providing we are all a bit OS!)

Make more time for my lovely friends who I want to see more of and who often get missed in the frantic rat race of home, work, kids etc.

    De-clutter - I've made a start and it feels great :j

Stick to meal planning the Grocery Challenge which is making our money go a lot further and is actually rather good fun :D

Finally (and this is the big one for me), to stop stressing about things that I cannot change or control.

Happy New Year you lovely lot. I hope 2013 is everything you want it to be

    Hello Everyone,

I don't normally post but 2012 has not been a good year in many ways for me and I am still dealing with some of the fall out. So need so goals to work for.

And yes I did turn 40 in 2012!!!!

Any way for the coming year 2013

    1) Loose 2 and half stone. Already lost 3 stone this year :jgood but not the reasons behind it!!!!
    2) Get more exercise
3)Make some friends in RL as I am sadly lacking in them and a social life
4)Get some new hobbies which I hope in turn will help with making friends
5)Gain more confidence in myself and abilities
    6) spend more time on my current hobbies so less time on the internet which is probably a good thing LOL!!!!
    7) Meal plan
    8) Save a £100 a month
    9) and finally be more organised

Think that is more than enough to be getting on with :rotfl:

I wish everyone a good start to 2013!!!

    Yours

    Calley

Finished another knitted arran style cushion cover last night. Can't afford a new carpet for the sitting room but plenty of wool to tart up the settee and chairs while I save.

I think I am developing the Blitz spirit as I won't be beaten if I can find another way round a problem.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.
