Great idea!
This year I will make our little part of the world a better place by...
- enjoying my children more
- making more of an effort with my friends, visit, text etc.
- Getting outside more, walks etc
- continue studying for my OU degree and really put the effort in
- getting the garden sorted and growing as much as we can
- make the most of our caravan, I do love it even if it is older than I am!
- buy British where possible with food
- be more active within the community and get to know more local people
- embrace what we have and who we have xx

Great idea for a thread JackieO!
2012 has been such a rubbish year for my family and friends that I can't wait to see the back of it tbh!
In 2013 I would like to:
Get my garden sorted (I am a gardener by trade but mines a right mess!)
Eat more healthily
Spend more time with my children - they are growing up so fast
Do more crafting
Appreciate the moment, rather than looking ahead too far

Great thread- thanks.
I am also planning to meditate every day and be more mindful. I'm another turning 40 this year and in my MFW quest I'm going through the 9 step program to financial independence (details on my MFW diary)2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -
Hi just grabbed some computer time from my DGC at the moment.
I have been reading through some of the replies and think its great how you have all had positive thoughts already. Re the italian cooking ,what a great idea, maybe a trip to the library for a browse through the cookery books and try one night to have an Italian themed meal, or the person who wanted to learn Italian why not, if cash is tight, borrow one of those 1000 word Childrens books I know they are done in French and German and decide that you are going to learn five words a day off by heart and at the end of the week you will have 35 words of a new language to practice with. A thousand words perhaps isn't the Berlitz system, but its a start and would cost nothing.Get the family involved and see who can learn and make a sentence with the 35 words and practice different words of everyday objects. We did this when one of my grandsons started learning German at school and we all learned a slight smattering of a new language.Great fun for the little ones in the family as they usually have no inhibitions at all.
I too have a bit of a stash of half finished projects to restore and paint in the cupboard under the stairs so I shall add that to my 'Give it a go' list.
This sounds a bit more positive than 'to-do ' list as to-do sounds a bit like CBA at times:)
Today is the day you must say 'Right I am going to do something different' no matter what it is, even if its only that small repair job in your sewing box.
I know on my DDs sofa the little Jack Russell has had a bit of a nibble in one corner and I will sew it up before it gets any bigger.I have been here for several days and DD asked if I would do it as she hates sewing in any form.So after breakfast the needle and thread will come out and that small job will be done for her Not a big deal, but one that isn't going to be put off.
I am also going to do a tip-run for her as we are going to declutter one of the upstairs boys bedrooms. When like her you have four messy sons and a three storey house to keep clear its so easy for the boys to lunk junk upstairs and find a corner to dump it in.Well today we are going to sort some of the junk out and get rid of it.
So far I still have just over £2.00 in my food purse and have no need to go food shopping until the New Year is over with as I am at DDs until Tuesday. But when I get home a serious stock take is on the cards with many lists to be done and a new menu for the month of January as I am sure I have more than enough food to keep me going without resorting to the supermarket.
At the most I may have to buy bread and milk although I have a feeling that I have bread in the freezer and several long-life cartons of milk in the fridge
So unless its desperately needed I am staying away from the shops and instead will have a walk around my local park (as long as its not raining too much) which will do my waist and my purse far more good.
I know I seem to have a lot of fish in my freezer so I am going to make one day at least in January a fish day to use some of it up. Making good use of my local library of course to get some recipes.I know I can get them off the 'net but if libraries aren't used they will be shut in our area.
I like the new feel of the coming year and the idea that we can put all the troubles of last year behind us.Well done on some splendid ideas, and for all of your positive thoughts
I'm off to have breakfast then its on with that small sewing job.One day at a time to do a few tasks, and its suprising how it will mount up.Keep those positive thoughts brewing chums and the ideas rolling. Its not 'resolutions' but just a sort of
'I have achieved this today' sort of idea. Keep them coming as there are some really good and inspiring ones
Well done everyone you are inspiring each other

The BBC have online language study courses for the basics - they are free. I'd be willing to bet that a google search would turn up some others. HTH0

Guys, thanks for the suggestions re Italian courses. I will be looking into those. I'd forgotten all about the BBC for things like that!!
Jackie - love the idea of "Give it a go" list. I too become CBA about stuff very quickly so that's a great way of looking at things in a different light. How long til pay day?

HI all
Some wonderful ideas:j.
I tend to be a pretty optimistic person but I do get bogged down with stuff sometimes so this year I plan to,
be more mindful and learn to meditate,
plant more veg in the garden to supplement our diet and to share with our family
Have more family gatherings (hassle free get to-gethers with some easy food and a drink).

what a fab idea!
2013 id like to be more positive and keep perspective
Im a mum to a 13 year old and 9 year old
I work 30 hours and help run a brownie pack and help on pta and fundraise for the hospice i work in so would like to scale back a bit as some days my head spins with it all, its not the fundraising etc its the politics and !!!!!iness behind scenes
ive a very supposrtive husband who works full time and runs a small scout group but this year we really need to get house sorted as it needs loads doing
-id like to paint house
-clear attic and sell the unwanted toys etc (i can pop on internet in work for free)
-sort garden and get back into growing own veggies etc as sadly didnt do anything this year and love a goood veg patch we have staggered garden and the lower level has a green house and raised beds but weather and time got better of me
-relax more instead of constatnly being on the go, i suffer terrible anxiety and worry constantly, so this year i intend to step back from it all and not make other peoples problems mine
-make more time to have bbqs etc with family and friends and zone out to the politics of some people in my life!
-batch cook more so theres always something nice in freezer that needs heating up:A :j0 -

Thanks for this. I had no idea the BBC had resources like this. My son is married to a Puerto Rican girl and they intend to settle in Puerto Rico. That means our grandchildren will be bi-lingual but Spanish will be their first language. I've decided I'm going to begin to learn Spanish in 2013 so I will be able to communicate well with them. This is brilliant so thanks again, I'll start tomorrow. :T0 -
Ohh, I just thought of another blessing that I can't count.
My health - I'm fortunate enough ( and my husband is too) to enjoy good health.
In 2011 my blood pressure was a little high, so I started daily walks (on days that I wasn't working, which helped a lot.
In 2012 I wasn't so good with the walking, mostly because the weather was so bad. But in 2013 I'll be walking again, I want to stay healthy.
I'm looking forward to the new yearEarly retired - 18th December 2014
