Having seen some posts, and read about how everything seems to be going to hell in a handbasket I thought come on Guys and Gals let's have some positive thinking for the coming year What are you all going to do to try and make the coming year brighter, less costly, and maybe just a slightly happier year for yourself and your family and friends. There is more than enough doom and gloom in the news so lets try to think positivly.
Years ago we had an 'I'm Backing Britain 'campaign, I think its time we had a
'I fed up with all the bad stuff, lets try positivity for a change'
Myself I am going to try to eat and spend slightly less (it will do my waistline and purse the world of good) and maybe try to think of a way I could get involved in doing something for someone else Not huge but practical perhaps.
Come on I'm sure there are lots of you with some bright ideas out there who are up for a bit of a new year challenge what do you say ???

I want to continue getting the house and myself ready for my (early) retirement in the summer.
I want to be able to enjoy being time-rich so that the lack of cash will be minimised. Positive Thinking is the way to go!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I am with you 1000%! First for me is to quit smoking!Second start utilizing my bicycle and use it more often than my car! Probably gonna sell my car also! Eat healthier and only homemade, quit junkfood!
all and all this plan could save me some money aside!
Above all is to develop my sense of gratitude on all sectors!little by little I hope this can invite more positive energy in my home, my family and me!0 -
I'm wanting to totally change my menu plan and learn a new quisine in the process. We're thinking the Italian diet, lots of meals that need a handful of ingredients and with those ingredients being suitable for different meals under the Italian umbrella. Hopefully bringing some excitement to meal times, save some money in buying staple ingredients and might just lose some weight moving away from stodge (that we love but a change is as good as and all that)
Food glorious food, as long as we have that we can smile huh?0 -
Hi JackieO, Long time lurker here! Felt compelled to post!
I would very much like to be more positive this year. I have started by deciding that we will not be buying any Xmas presents in 2013 for anyone other than our children, and I have already told some of the extended family, who took it well. I would still like to do something charitable over the season, and money depending, will donate to charity at Xmas and maybe give blood. I feel positive about having made this decision and it has taken a weight off my mind.
I want to lose a bit of weight and feel comfortable in my skin, I turned 40 this year and think it's about time to feel comfortable and confident about myself - have spent way too long worrying about stupid things.
I want to curb my grocery spending, we are a large family (2 adults, 6 kids) and I think I'm quite good at being frugal with food shopping, but there is definately room for improvement!
I am also in the process of being weaned off anti-depressants after having been on them for 4 years, so I need to be positive as I don't know how I'm going to feel !!:eek:Mortgage-free wannabe!0 -
Great sentiment JackieO, I wish all the best to everyone struggling at the moment.
For me? I will get a job and soon. In the meantime I'll clear some of my clutter and make some cash to help pay the end of jan bills.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -
What a great idea for a thread!
For the last couple of years I have felt like I have been just existing - not living so...
I am going to enrich my life this year by:
Going for walks in the woods with the kids more often
Playing Board games with them more
Seeing my friends much more than I have done for the last couple of years
Cooking from scratch more often and saving some money
Baking much more treats
Eating more fruit - the amount I eat is pitiful but I do eat tonnes of veg!
Getting my house sorted with baby steps and no pressure
Give up cigs and cut down dramatically on alcohol.
Lastly, and I just thought of this one because of this thread...
Surprising my good friends with a little gift/home baking with pretty wrapping for no reason at all other than they are my friends!0 -
I love positivity and the good vibes that go with it. I am already a positive person but my weakness is also `I suppose` my strongpoint in that I am good at preserving foods but I am storing too many. I will be feng shui-ing our house and cooking from my vast storecupboard. There are only two of us and I could feed four for a year, so I shall be running it all down month by month until there is a safety net of two months supply left
Next positive thing is to use my stash of fabrics and I shall be exploring making small items like clothes for grandchildren, quilts and so on. Same goes for my knitting yarn stash, I`ll be making things to give away
Anyway, I hope to create more free flowing space in our home, whilst donating bits and pieces to the hospice shop
I like growing things and I am looking forward to using weeding by hand as a relaxing session0 -
2013 is gong to be my year. I turn 40, smack bang in the middle of it so I'm damn well going to be in control.
I'm aiming to be spending far less, earning more and getting fitter. I'm also going to learn to say "no" I'm sick of doing things out of duty or because I'm to scared of hurting people's feelings.
Basically, I'm going into this new year at full speed and I don't plan to stop until I've broken through the other end of it."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

I'm another one who is turning 40 this year  My life should be sorted by now!0 -
Lovely idea JackieO! This year I am hoping to
Finish my OU degree and get back the time now spent in study
Continue filling my (rather bare) garden with flowers and developing my veg plot at the end
Continue to keep a critical eye on the clutter coming into the house
Keep up with Sunday School and Discipleship Group, perhaps moving into hosting our own group if needed
See more of family but develop different ways of doing it
Start writing again and do more craft in my 'spare' time
Restart my bee lessons at the allotment
Devote more thought to my job and improve my performance there
Happy New Year to all posters and lurkers! I hope there are positive improvements in all our lives.0
