Positive Thinking for 2013

Great thread and lovely to read such positivity - fair brightens up the day.
I am mostly positive, sometimes I tip over into Pollyanaand so have to watch it. 2012 has been unusually good, lots of luck, lots of happiness and not too many worries to burden me down, however right at the start of November I got an acute injury which has been extremely painful and debilitating. Now, after nearly eight weeks the pain is under control with the strategic use of painkillers and a lot of physiotherapy and, although surgery is the looming spectre in 2013, I am optimistic that the healing will progress.
All in all... positive thoughts wins hands down. I am so lucky to only ever had two serious bouts of ill health (not counting colds and so on) and so I can carry this injury around with a sort of lop-sided smile on my face. It's not life-threatening, I won't lose the limb and it will get better.
As for my plans - keep on enjoying my work. Only got 13 months until I can retire but at this point I can't see me doing that. And all the other usual things, family, friends, travel, lose weight (surgery!!), drink less but more of better, go to more concerts and learn to lock my door.
Happy 2013!0 -
Great thread JackieO
Definitely gonna try and spend some more time over on OS as I do love that way of life (or the idea of it.. not sure I can call myself Old Style just yet!! :rotfl:)
2013 hopes for me are...
*Get fitter and exercise more- I find this is so beneficial both physically and emotionally , aiming eventually for 4 times per week but will build up starting with at least 2 decent runs/walks/classes
*Eat more healthily and more within budget - Its easy to overspend on "junk" type food- we have bursting cupboards of the stuff at the moment and I want to enjoy it slowly rather than mindlessly eat it just because its there.
*Sort out and declutter the house- so I can find stuff ... I often put stuff away in illogical places to try and save space!
*Have people over for dinner /social evenings more (can save up some of the "junk" food for such events!)
*Be more positive and worry less helped by all of the above hopefully!0 -
A lovely thread JackieO :T
I love new year too - the idea of putting all the bad things beind you and having a fresh start.:)
Things to give a go this year
learn calligraphy - I've ordered a set and a book on sale to get me started. I hand-paint a few cards myself and want to be able to do some nice writing in them.
Take up crochet - I learned it very basically about 30 years ago and would like to have another go.
Budget well and save more. we are lucky enough to be debt-free but DH isn't in the best of health so may have to give up work. I'd like us to have a bit of a safety net should this happen.
Declutter - am in the process of decluttering the house and garden. Would like to keep going and not lose motivation.
appreciate my family, friends and all the good things in my life.Do what you love :happyhear0 -
Three bags of junk to the tip and DD's small sewing job done and dusted.I'm off to a 50th birthday party tonight and feel quite chuffed at my efforts today.
I also printed of the poem by Jenny Joseph about 'When I'm an old woman' for my DDs sis-in-law whose birthday 'do' it is as we were talking about it on Christmas Eve,I decorated the edges in purple flowers and have framed it for her as a bit of a laugh as she says she wants to grow old disgracefully,I know she will appreciate the sentiments in it as she is a lovely lady with a great sense of humour.(I also got her a very pretty photo frame and put a nice photo in of her and her OH that I took last year)So its been a productive day all round.Might be a bit quieter tomorrow after the celebrations tonight though:):)
Great ideas are coming along on here ,smashing ideas about learning a new language as well
Cheers chums keep 'em coming

Tappers a great idea about crocheting, I wish my fingers could manage the hook, but still I do knit charity blankets for the Linus Trust almost all of the time0 -
I've said it before but the biggest positive thing we have is this forum! However frugal our ancestors were, and however many wise old folk there were in their village, there is no way they could have had instant access to so many wonderful ways of saving money as we do on this website and the wider internet. So as Mrs T famously said, 'Just Rejoice!':p'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

AA, I agree, we are very lucky to be alive now.
Life may have been simpler years ago, but now we have so many choices available to us, and the freedom to make choices to change our lives for the better.
History fascinates me, and I would like to be able to time travel to see what it was like, but without a doubt I'm glad to be here in the 21st century.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I am going to:
Lose weight and get fit
get work on my house completed so it's more sellable, ready to move in 2014 hopefully
complete my degree by June 2014 - on target
Appreciate family more and spend more time with themNo you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
Budget more. It can get addictive and quite fun to find ways of saving money.
Concentrate on the positives. I'm trying to overpay our mortgage at the moment so I'm going to focus on how much we have paid off, rather than how much we owe.
Be mindful. Try not to lose my rag so much over little things. I was taught mindfulness but I have to remember to use it in everyday life.:o
Exercise more. Not just waddling along with the dogs,:p actually start doing exercise that makes me out of breath.
Organise more and declutter. It's an ongoing process as I did a bit in 2012.Goldiegirl wrote: »History fascinates me, and I would like to be able to time travel to see what it was like, but without a doubt I'm glad to be here in the 21st century.
I was being absentminded and not reading properly and I thought your positive thing for 2013 was to time travel.:rotfl:0 -
Hi everyone
What a good idea to encourage us to think positively for the new year ahead.
I am lucky that I have a lovely OH, 2 lovely grown up sons (both in work at the moment) we live in a rented flat but are saving for a deposit to buy our own home again ( we went BR 4 1/2 years ago but survived the experience , it's not nice but you just have to get on with it, and now we are rebuilding)
We save up for what we want and think twice before we buy anything major. I am of an age where we have been in recession before but this one feels a lot longer but know it will eventually end. There is no shame in buying value products, making do with the clothes you have, and taking help from others as well as giving it. If we don't look after each other who's going to.
Little treats are important to keep your spirits up, a small bar of chocolate, a walk on a sunny day etc don't have to be expensive and can make all the difference. If you let yourself feel deprived you will make yourself miserable and if you count your blessings you will feel positive and that you can cope with what life throws at you and yours.
Chatting on here can make all the difference to how we feel
So let's all keep counting our blessings
Have a good evening everyone

I am positive I will be grey by end of year, I am positive I will be worse off financially as cost of living continues to rise and positive that for the 5th year in a row my wages will not rise and positively certain they will fall with a new company taking over the contracts in February.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0
