Well its now 2013!! Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!

Am feeling positive in this moment, its cold and dark outside but cozy indoors with a Yankee black cherry scent and I've just watched the Edinburgh fireworks on the tele which I love :) Waiting on hubby and daughter getting in from work.

Re my goals for the year one is to get my house in order - so with this in mind bought the paint for the bathroom and the office today. Now just need to get started! Oh and made pavlova for tomorrows family meal :)

  • Happy New Year to all Old Stylers

Lovely thread JackieO, I'm going to contact/arrange to see the old friends I missed last year, especially those who sent Christmas Cards (as I did) saying we must meet up ...

And ... eat no more than 2 slices of bread a day - it will force me to look at and plan better the quality of our meals.

And spend time doing a proper shop each week instead of rushing into s'bury or t'sko at the last minute and buying everything there. It will get me out walking in the fresh air, as well.

Best wishes and hugs everyone for a successful year.

Happy new year everyone - I love the feeling of a new start and everything is so fresh!

My wish for the year is to live my life in the moment instead of waiting for something to happen and to make our house a home instead of somewhere we are renting until we can buy (unlikely to happen this year as OH has just set up a company which makes mortgages difficult).

We have been here 5 years in March and may be here for a few more years so we may as well appreciate it!
  • Happy New Year! May your lum always reek!

I'm glad I found this thread as it's going to be a tough one for me this year as I'm starting a uni course as a mature student so will need plenty of positive vibes.
It's work based and they will be giving me a day off a week to study so I need to make sure I use it for that purpose, so I'd be interested to hear from anyone who works from home and how they discipline themselves.

I'm away to start my nice new diary and put up new calendar, love that feeling of a fresh page (notebook obsessed).

My other goals are similar to some of yours - get our food expenditure down, organise the house more and especially sort out my kitchen cupboards. I have a huge kitchen but nothing seems to flow, cupboards need a major re-jig.

I look forward to subscribing and posting here and hope all of you have a very successful year x
  • Hello everyone and Happy New Year

I have not been on here for so long (got all caught up in the Jimmy Savile horrors). I need to get a grip in so many areas. The aforementioned part in brackets took over every aspect of my world for the past 3 months. Although I won't entirely drop it I do need to focus on other things. This thread has inspired me so thank you:T

    I plan to start:

    Walking 10,000 steps a day
    Meal planning again
Learn something ( connected to work - financial services)

Jackie O is right, looking down becomes a hard habit to break so I'd like to list those traits I shall endeavour to STOP:eek:

Leaving things till the last minute and stressing
Being so dismissive of ideas, thoughts that conflict with mine
Sitting on my bahook doing nothing each evening.
Being so impatient with my husband
stressing so much, especially about things that I can't change

Here we are in 2013, and it's a bright sunny morning here, so even the weather is playing ball with the feeling of optimism !

They say that as you get older, time seems to pass quicker, and I think that is very true.

1993 seems to have been about 5 minutes ago, so that means that in a blink of an eye it'll be 2033 !

Therefore it's important to enjoy every single day.

My main issues are stress and worry. I'm ok when I'm at home, but it's at work where those traits kick in.

However, as I said earlier on this thread, I only work two days a week, and I'm doing it so I can fully retire in 2016, at a relatively young age.

If I feel the stress levels rising at work, I'll remind myself why I'm doing it !

Good Afternoon folks and a very Happy New Year to you all.I had a great evening lest night and got to bed rather late (about 2.30) but was up and about by 8.30 (that's a lie-in for me :):))
I asked around last night and here are some of the positives that different folk told me at our family party

Youngest DGD Holly aged 19 Going to try to be nicer to people and less impatient ( quite a feat for her as she is a bit on the bossy side at times)

DGS Danny Wants to have enough in his bank account by the end of 2013 to put down on a flat or house, so has decided not to change his car and save instead (another good one as he realises the longer he leaves things the harder it will get to get on the housing ladder)

12 year old grandson Jack want to try to get into the next maths set up as he says 'I know I could do it if I tried a bit harder'.OK not world shattering but making the effort I would give him 10/10 :):)

11 year old DGS Henry says he want to try and do at least three lengths in the pool when he goes swimming instead of just fooling around he is going to see what times he and his friend can get them to.Great as he does like swimming and knows the more he can improve the healthier he will be

The little one Mikey said after a great deal of thought
'I know what Granny now my front tooth has grown in properly I want to try a bit harder with my music lessons'.He plays the oboe at school, as because his baby teeth had come out he had to stop playing for awhile and he did miss it.

Also not earth shattering but making them have a think about doing something with a bit more effort can only be good.

My DDs sis-in-law says she want to dig her bike out from the garage and use it more instead of the car and her OH says he will pack up his small cigars that he smokes and put the cash towards his daughters school trip instead. So last night we were all thinking of looking forward to the new year and a new start and doing something more and 'having a go' at something new.
This afternoon I spent a couple of hours sorting out stuff to go to the charity shop tomorrow, and for my eldest DD to take into school with her next week.I have quite a lot of excess craft stuff to be passed on and a big stash of books that have been read and put back on the shelves. This year I am definitely going to rid myself of the excess amount of clutter/junk that seems to have been creeping up on me.
Also I am going to use up more of my store cupbords than I do and stay away from the shops a bit more.Utilising what I've got and spending less seems to be good idea and decluttering some of my stuff from my tiny cottage means I will have a bit more room to move :):)
Well done to all of you who have written your positive thoughts and hopefully we can keep this positivity going throughout the year
Eat less ,learn more and laugh a lot sounds great to me
    Cheers chums

JackieO I love that you got your whole family on board - a lesson to us all in spreading a little positivity. I've seen two different versions of Facebook posts about positive thinking jars and judging by the thousands of folk that have seen them, I'd like to think that we really about to enter a new era of positive thinking for humanity. Maybe the Mayans got that bit right after all.

I'm off on a budget break up north with my family tomorrow, so I'm aims to get my sons and husband thinking of their positive goals for the year en route.
  • Well i've started well i think. I've had a go on my exercise bike this morning, been for a walk, written 1500 words and have downloaded some educational podcasts to listen to when i'm walking to work and during my breaks.

It was such a beautiful morning the sun warmed the rooms so I didn't need any heating on.I was able to open all the windows and let the New year in on the fresh air. The house and I feel so much better now :). It may be wet again tomorrow so I'm very thankful for this respite and a positive start to the New year.
