Positive Thinking for 2013

Love this thread JackieO!
I'm going to meditate every day instead of a few days a week, even if it's a 5 min quiet time in the morning, make more eco-friendly choices with cleaning stuff (lemon juice, vinegar etc), shampoo etc, food. I want to be more responsible for the way I am living, and see this as something really positive. I've just watched the fab 2 part programme on the National Trail of Scotland (or something like that!) and it has inspired me to get out walking again. I used to do more of this stuff but have become lazier in recent years. Which brings me on to another positive thing for me - less time spent on the Internet. I know that's not for everyone though.
Having said that, I'm off for a wee browse around OS ha ha.
Looking forward to reading more replies to this thread.0 -
What a lovely idea for a thread as I was just sitting moping thinking "Its all over again. How can I make 2013 good?!"
Well, I'm going to get on with my job. I turned down an interview at the end of the year and since then seem to have found renewed vigour in my job (stranger things have happened) and I want to continue this.
I need to find some "stuff" to do in 2013 - I keep meaning to learn Italian but as we're trying to move house (which is in itself something I'd like to get done this year!) I can't warrant the expense of a course.
Pooky - agree about saying "no" or learning to
Here's to finding some kind of silver lining or good things to make 2013 a good year. How long til pay day?

This is a brilliant idea for a thread - all the good feelings on here are sure to help us stay positive. I'm going to try to spend less, exercise more, do some writing, and generally be happier in myself.0

Great idea for a thread, Jackie.
I'm going to make sure I count my blessings in 2013.

My lovely husband
The fact that we live modestly but comfortably.
We can afford to go on a cruise each year.
My good friends.
However, I do have a tendency to worry and get stressed. The main thing that causes this is my job. I enjoy the work, but it can
be very busy and pressurised.
However, I only work two days a week, so I can escape from the pressure. In order to help me manage the stress, I'm going to make sure I remind myself of why I'm working. I've already got a pension, and for the time being I want to earn extra for savings. My husband retires in Oct 2016' and I will stop work at the same time, so just want to get some extra saving done before then. I'll be 56 when I stop working, so I'm going to focus on the fact that I won't be working for ever.
I think that will help keep me positive.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I am going to.....
~ Lose 14 lbs in weight
~ Fund raise for my operation
~ Continue my quest for meaningful occupation
Good luck for the New Year xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I too am already a positive person who retired from paid employment nearly 9 years ago. I already do charity work 1 and 1/2 days a week, walk several miles 1 day a week with my friend and the budget and housework is under control. But although I keep the grocery spend quite low, we have been having some really boring meals this year so thats the 1st thing I can try to change.
I gave up eating bread in the summer and dropped 16lb without much effort on my part but there is still work to be done so thats the 2nd challenge.
I have also let the cc bill rise up again and although its my only debt and I am MF that needs to be sorted also so thats number 3.
But the biggest challenge will be to stop buying clothes and incidental odds and sods which is where most of my money goes. So thats number 4 and enough to be getting on with I think.
I love New Year and the positivity of starting afresh so I am really looking forward to next week when my whole life will be made perfect overnight. :rotfl:Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0 -
JackiO what a brilliant idea!!! Think there definatly needs to be more positivity about!!!
So for 2013 my plan is:
- Move into my new flat and make it a home! But do it step by step instead of trying to do it all at once and failing misserably!
- Meal plan more and make sure that I stick to it!! Fed up of buying things with all good intentions and then it going in the bin!
- To try and save at least £50 per month - hopefully more, so ready for xmas.
- Any loose change to go into a jar instead of littering the kitchen table or the bottom of my bag! Keep saving the pennies!!
- To just generally, stress less, save more, and live life instead of just surviving!
Hope your all ok, and you have a great new year.
Loads of love

what a nice thread, and some good ideas in it for me to adopt. I've already decided 2013 is going to be the year of "finish off half done projects", repair or chuck broken things and repaint and restore anything that looks tired and ugly. I dragged home so many potential projects this year - tables and etc to paint but it wasn't until I saw an episode of Hoarders with an antique dealer in it that the light went on in my brain! And there is so much repainting I could be doing in the house that I don't need any more furniture or bricabrac projects.
And I must get outdoors more .0 -
do more exercise (with new bike prize!), may lift me out of no job slump.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

We are planning our garden crops again, last year was bad weather & slug wise, but we still managed to grow lots of veg, mainly down to hubby's hard work.
I'm not going to worry about losing my job this year, I'll just plod on & panic if it happens & not lay awake fretting about it.
I know some people have been badly affected by the recession but a lot of people worry that they may be affected & this brings them down.
I shall carry on trying to help & support my family where I can & take pleasure from spending time with them.
