I'm working on being good when I can this week to offset meals out, guests coming etc. Then I'm away Monday-Friday next week for a short break, then half term week. Hopefully by next WI (in about three weeks), I'll have gained and then lost and back to where I started ready for my June holiday!:rotfl:

Today I've had scrambled egg on toast. I'll have something mostly SF for lunch, probably a bit of salad with some tuna or chicken. Bolognese from the freezer for supper. A bit boring but I prefer a light meal on Monday before I go dancing. Syns so far are a small juice and squirt of sauce with breakfast, hopefully no more as I'm saving them for later in the week.

:Ton the three hours exercise mm. Hope it's making you feel good as well as the calorie burning.

Reading yesterday's comments about eating as much free food as you like. I've never understood how this can be so. In Success Express it's explained that if you have extra free food you have to have extra SFs too so I think it should apply to EE as well. My plan is always to have at least a third of SFs across the day rather than a third with each meal and then snack on free food in between.

When i explained this to the weight loss support group i attend i was told it was nonsense. If you are consuming more calories than you are using in a day then you gain weight no matter how 'free/superfree' the food is. Then it was highlighted about the natural sugars in foods especially fruit. Yes it is healthy but the same applies if you are consuming excessive amounts of high sugar based foods whether they are natural or not your body will only process what it needs the rest will be stored as fat so the losses will slow.
If you take a look at any of the meal plans online you can see that fruit does not make up a big portion of the SFs through the day but meerly as a way of finishing a meal to do away with a pudding so it covers the 'need something sweet' afterwards approach for many.
Another thing highlighted was the use of artificial sweeteners because these are xxx times stronger than normal sugar we use less but the brain is tricked into thinking it is still recieving sugars and wants/craves more. So the more mullerlights or alternative flavoured yogurts that are consumed the more people can still go on to find they are craving food or constantly feeling hungry. I too went through this stage and have swapped to fat free natural yogurt with the defrosted fruit stirred through to get the same 'dessert' without the sweeteners.

Lost 3st 5lb with Slimming world so far!!
  • I also have a lot coming up Maman - Tuesday night and Wednesday being a religious holiday (that means lots of food over here!!), then on Thursday we're off up to the north of the country for a couple of days with friends and then the following weekend we're also going away so I'm going to have to be super diligent in between and get as much walking in as possible in between.

Not sure I'll be anywhere near a scale to WI on Friday (might WI one day early before I go instead).

hoping to lose 50lb by February 2013! 2st lost so far :j
  • My legs hurt in a not entirely friendly way. Especially my ankles & left knee. I made 2 errors. I told hubby that my knee hurt. He poked it. He said I went a funny colour & made odd noises. I told him I was concerntrating on breathing.
The next error was stretching in bed this morning.
I awoke full of the joys, despite almost every moment yesterday being painful (well those knee under) and I stretched. In bed. Laying down. The upper bit wasn't a problem. The bit where I pointed my toes forward & down? Yeah, that smarter. Just a tad.
In general stupidity I then proceeded to move about to see what hurt.
The answer appears to be everything from my left knee down & my right ankle & foot.
On the plus side its no worse than yesterday. So count my blessings :)

I will post weekend food & activity later because my diary is downstairs & I haven't ventured that way yet. In fact I haven't even put socks on yet lol

Where is your b section? Your breakfast is really light and could lead to hunger pangs later in the day.

Thanks but some days I don't have my B. Having to many carbs and fruit restricts my loss. I don't ban them completely but I eat less that others. Different things work for us all. I did have two slices of Nimble yesterday by the way.

Normally I would have more than the Muller for breakfast but its time to go to flippin Tesco again. Also on Weigh in day I don't like to eat a lot before my weigh in at 5.30.

The stirfry that I have tonight will be on the large side btw.

By the way yesterday I weighed myself on another persons scales - have no idea what these are in relation to the SW ones. Anyway I weighed went for a good long walk and then came back again and weighed out of curiousity and I'd 2 lbs on in the space of an hour. Whats that all about!!!

Lantana, restricting what you eat on a weigh in day can also cause a gain as your body goes into panic mode and stores food as fat as it doesnt know when you next will refill the tank.
On weigh in days i eat normally but stop drinking around 5pm until my weigh in at 7.30pm.
You say you are restricting carbs again your body will panic as carbs are what keep your engine ticking over through the day and stop us jumping in the biscuit/chocolate tin as they are slow release energy. What will be causing slower losses is the portions of the carbs you are consuming. Try cutting back - we need 5-7 portions a day of complex carbs, a portion is 1 slice of bread from 800g loaf or 2-3tbsp of cooked rice/pasta or 2 egg sized potatoes.

I know all about slow losses, consecutive sts'setc as have been on SW almost a year now and it was only going to the weight loss support groups through my GP that got me moving in the right direction again. Simple portion control and making sure i eat enough from the food groups saw the changes needed that consultant and area manager couldn't identify.

The scales have told me I'm a stone heavier than I had guessed in my head I would be. I know roughly how much I weigh depending on how I feel, and I thought I was 13st, was thinking I'd be ok if it said 13st 4lb but upset if it said 13st 7lb. But I'm 14st.

I'm frightened, because this has knocked me sideways. I've been enjoying eating at that rate. But I'm 4 stone overweight

Sorry to hear you're so disappointed Frogga. However I think you've hit the nail on the head here:

Half of me is in panic mode, thinking the amazing exciting SW model might not actually be what I thought it was. I don't want to hear that I have to limit free foods. I was happy knowing there were things I could eat as much of as I liked with no consequences.
Now it feels as thought the rug has been pulled out from under me, and actually I do have to watch what I eat, I do have to restrict myself. All the talk from SW about eating as much as you want doesn't work for me. Why me? Why us MedMum?

You ask "why me?" but it isn't just you - truth be told, no-one (apart from maybe very overweight or active people, and some lucky men) can eat unlimited free food and lose weight. Yes, SW do market it as that and it is more liberal than other diets in that respect but we have to be sensible here, and the menu plans in magazines etc. show what they intend as portion size/proportions. I know that when I first did it 17-odd years ago I ate mounds of rice and pasta and didn't lose, which is why now, even though pasta is 'free', I measure my portion out every time. It's a decent portion compared to something like WW but it's probably half of what I used to have, and I don't have any problem with carbs. I feel for people like MM who do seem to have to restrict things a bit more than others but really (and please don't think I'm being mean, this is tough love!) you've probably been lucky you've been able to lose so well eating lots but it doesn't work anymore - not that SW doesn't work anymore, just the way you were doing it. The good news is you can change what you're doing! You said last week you were going to try cutting down on fruit and free foods at breakfast, have you done that? Again, please don't think I'm getting at you because I'm not, but I see people on other forums ask why xyz isn't working, they are told things they don't want to hear so go away and sulk and come back a few weeks later with the same moan and expect a different answer. You obviously have much more self awareness in the bit in bold above, but I really don't want you to be like those people who go around in miserable little circles because they don't want to listen when it's suggested that something is done differently. Try not to think of it as restricting yourself- watching what you eat, yes, but you're doing it because you want to lose weight. You say you were happy in bilssful ignorance but won't you be even happier thinner? As I say, this is meant as tough love so I hope you don't take offence - we all want our SW pals on here to reach their goals and sometimes a few harsh words are necessary *hugs* :)
This post could of been written by me. I totally understand how you feel. I had a few weeks where I lost 1/2 lb a week for a few weeks and could not understand why. I counted every syn and weighed ,my healthy extras and eat nothing then other than free foods. I then dawned on me I was eating in between meals lots of fruit and snacking on free food in between. I thought maybe its not as good as it promises. I thought go back to the basic three meals a day concept filling up 2/3 of free food 1/4 Superfree etc. I would snack only on Superfree but cut of bananas and stuck to strawberries and melon ( speed food) to snack. I used my full syns 105 and that week lost 4lb.

Now I think the secret is to train yourself to ask yourself is this hunger or habit.

This. Said better than I probably have, and it shows it does work if you follow the basic principles to the letter. I know we talked about this last week Frogga, about habits. In some ways it's more difficult than just having willpower but it can be done!

I'm not a huge fruit fan, don't really look for puddings (I'm more of a starter/savoury person), almost never eaten yogurt other than FF as a dressing and I've rarely used sweetener. So most of my SFs have always been though veg which may explain why I've never had the problems some people are experiencing.

I think those who have moved on to looking at portion control and other areas are just making the basic SW programme even healthier and more realistic as a lifelong choice.

I'm fortunate in that my WI is in the morning. But I do have my usual breakfast before I go. I've always done that. I think what matters is that you do similar things every week on WI day and that includes similar clothes.
