I also get the Aldi berries, but they have run out of the summer fruit ones & only have black forest or raspberries which I am not keen on, I am not a lover of greek yoghurt, too thick for me, I get the Aldi FF natural one at 55p for 500g, never noticed if they do a greek one, worth a look next time, not a lover of the farmfoods berries either as they have cherries in them.
Yeah, the black forest ones have cherries in but not that many, made up for with grapes instead whereas the Asda black forest pack has more cherries. I'm not a fan of fresh cherries or cherry-flavoured things but strangely they are one of my favourites in the frozen mix, probably because they are sweet.Mediterranean_Mum wrote: »Well the doc appointment didn't produce anything enlightening. He said that I have to give it time - my yoyo dieting over many many years has played havoc with my system. He talking a bit about WLS and said that I should start the process and do the barrage of tests etc that need to be done. I don't have to make a final decision about it until all of that has been done. He is obviously in favour of me doing it and says that he believes I would stay at goal when I got there as I've gone through the process of educating myself on how to eat and how to exercise and he knows I'd continue with it.
Is surgery something you have/would consider? Interesting that the doctor is in favour of it - here they seem to discourage it (so I've heard - never gone down the route of enquiring although it has crossed my mind) but I guess that's all due to cost. As Maman says, you usually have to lose some on your own first - I can see why this is and also very big people benefit from reducing their anaesthetic risk but it always seems a bit odd to me as it proves people CAN lose weight through the usual methods!2011: [STRIKE]Houses[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]weddings[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]cats[/STRIKE]

To be honest Blodwen I haven't really seriously considered it before and in fact when I first changed to this doctor he asked me if anyone had ever suggested it to me. I told him that I was extremely scared of it and he said so I should be!!
I have a friend who did it about 5 months ago and I was very scathing of her. Why couldn't she try and do it naturally; she's not learning to eat properly; she's not exercising; surely she'll just put it all back on again.
The more I saw her the more weight she'd lost and the more upset I got about it. I hated her for it - really honestly and truly hated her. Here was I struggling away with trying to lose my weight - eating really healthily, exercising almost every day and not a pound am I losing (after the initial loss). Over the last few months I can say that I've been truly devastated by this whole episode but I actually realised the other day that the real issue is that I'm totally jealous of her. She's made her decision (for better or worse) and she's losing weight, getting tons of compliments and getting her life back.
I just can't do this anymore - it's driving me insane and I just want to be slim. I live in a hot country and every summer it gets hotter and hotter and I get more and more uncomfortable.
I've lost weight yes, but not nearly enough and no matter what I'm doing recently it doesn't seem to help.
The tests are going to take months so it's not something I'm jumping into immediately but it's there if I want it. The doctor says it's opening a door and only I can choose if I want to go through it. Who knows by the time it's open I might not need to go through but if things continue the way they are then I might have no choice.Mediterranean Mum

MedMum - you do know don't you that people can very easily re-gain weight after their WLS. The first 18-24 months are like a honeymoon period and the weight falls off (that's why you admit to being jealous of your friend). However, there is loads of evidence out there that after 2-3 years people start to regain weight. I know 4 people (3 with gastric bypass and 1 with a band) and they have all regained several stones in weight.
People say "weight off and gone forever" but it really isn't in a lot of cases.0 -

Yes Pennylane I do but I also know that a lot of people who go down the WLS road don't try to lose themselves first and do no exercise or weight management while they're on their journey. I look at the fact that I've been doing SW for all this time and have completely educated myself health-wise. I love this way of eating and will never go back to what I was doing before. I will also continue exercising.
In any case, as already said, I haven't decided that I'm going to go through the door. The tests and counselling will take about four or five months to complete so I have plenty of time to consider all the pros and cons and if I can start losing again on my own then there will be absolutely no need for this - it really will be as a last resort.Mediterranean Mum

This is what makes me wary of it really - if the psychological aspect of why they gained weight in the first place isn't addressed how can people expect the weight to stay off? I think some people think it is a miracle fix and are disappointed when they realise they still have to work at it. The difference with you, as you say, is you have changed your lifestyle so it isn't a case of "I can't stick to a diet", it's "I am sticking to my diet but it isn't working for me" - completely different IMO. Not saying you should go through that door but I think you're a lot better placed than many who do decide to go for it.2011: [STRIKE]Houses[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]weddings[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]cats[/STRIKE]

Thanks Blodwen - that's exactly the way I look at it. I know everyone is against it and I am too in so many ways. I'm dipping my toe in the water but changes are that I won't dive in.
Thanks everyone for their support I really really appreciate it. :AMediterranean Mum
