Will be interested to hear what he has to say. I too don't think I've made any progress all year?

I've had a slip up for a week at Easter, and 3 days of my Birthday weekend, but apart from that I've been good and on plan.

    I haven't weighed, but I don't feel any thinner?

Have a good wedding, and remember, there are worse things we could be than a little bit chubby :D

MM from your description of how a lot of the fat is accumulating around the stomach I wonder if stress is an issue. I am rushing this morning as I need to go out and will post links later. I first learned about it from a friend. In some ways I had a similar decade to my friend. We were both single parents, had very high demand/ high stress jobs, houses we were renovating and other significant family issues going on the time. We both became very ill with repeated physical illnesses that our doctors eventually decided were triggered by the extent of the stress. We both developed the same weight issues you described. We tried, but couldn't lose weight.

My friend's sister is head of a university psychology department as she sent us a lot of information showing how this distribution of weight and the failure to shed it is actually rooted in stress.

Now my life is much easier dd is grown up and settled, house finished, other family issues over and I have a lovely partner. I have changed to a different workplace. Same job, but way better management. I am now losing weight steadily thanks to the help on here and in particular I am finally shedding it around that stomach area.

Edit: p.s. I looked heavily pregnant often too!

Thanks Prudent yes I have a very stressful life. My 18 year old DD gives us no end of problems (without going into any details) and I'm constantly stressed by her. She's moving out at the end of August to do a year's programme in another city and will only be home at the weekends when hopefully it'll be a hello and goodbye and the rest of the time she'll spend with her boyfriend!!! (I sound like a terrible mother).

I run my own business - I'm a property manager - and it's so unbelievably stressful. Working from home makes it more so as the work is always there and I feel that unless I'm sitting in front of the TV - which I have to fight for with the menfolk (!) or I'm out walking there is nothing for me to do but sit in front of my computer which automatically means that I work - sometimes up to 15 or 16 hours a day.

I will mention the stress element to my doctor when I see him on Wednesday and ask him what his opinion is but having just discussed all of this with my best friend I've decided that I'm basically going to lay it on the table with him and refuse to leave until he works out how he's going to get to the bottom of this because there's obviously something going on here if I have not moved for 4 months - I just don't buy the whole plateau thing when someone has still got 5 stone to lose.

I couldn't understand why the big belly. Turns out he swallowed a tennis ball whole! Just wondered if you've been playing about in the garden and accidently swallowed something?? It can happen to the best of us :D

OK anyone who stayed with me through this moan - it's over!!!

I stayed and was just about to suggest a visit to the doctor. I'm sure it won't be a tennis ball causing the problem;) but good to check things out. Someone I know uses this

and swears by it. Briefly, she lost weight using SW then wanted to maintain/lose a bit more without going to classes. So she sort of uses it as her food diary/fitness log. She follows SW type eating but watches calories/exercise with this at the same time. Bearing in mind what my consultant said this week about calories automatically coming down when loads of SF in diet then it might be a way forward. It's just an idea as I know many GPs just recommend the calories in/out approach.

I've had boiled eggs and toast so far with a small juice. Planning to have same lunch as yesterday (cold ham and bubble & squeak) and then a big roast later. So that's beef, roasties and gravy but with cabbage, cauli, broccoli and carrots planned to go with it. I'll probably have a bit of horseradish but yorkies won't be on the menu today.

    Evening all,
I posted on here a couple of weeks ago, asking to join in. I have fallen off the SW wagon and need help!!
I had a weekend away with girlfriends last week, result
    3lb gain.
I am going to the gym, doing a kettlebells class and walked 6 miles today.
Actully prior to the 3lb gain, I was at my lowest I had been for years but I struggle and it tends to be 1lb on, 1.5lbs off. Syns run away with me, I am envious of people who can eat 5 maltesers and leave the rest in the fridge - not normal!!:D
I dont think I will have the time to post everyday, but will try.
enjoy the rest of the bank holiday weekend.
sounds like you had an amazing weekeend though :)

    .
i really would reccommend using this only as a last resort , the issue when calorie counting is unwittingly you tend to cut out the items which are better for you .
for example if you decide to have a ham salad and your ham is x number of calories you wont consume as much salad as you dont want to eat too many calories where in fact it would be better to eat more salad and less ham .

I appreciate its not easy and we all want that quick fix but you really do need to have faith , its a long journey and whilst everyonne needs to find out what works for them part of the bigest appeal of slimming world is the only thing you need to measure is your hea and heb which makes it essentially easy.

I do think as someone mentioned before that variety is important as eating too much of one thing may not be as good as spreading it out

good luck and if it works for you then by all the means try /:)

Thanks Rob and I really do hear what you're saying but I am a big cook and I make a huge variety of meals - I usually have way more than 1/3 SF with each meal and I measure my HEA and HEB. My syns are usually only used as additions in my cooking and I don't drink so I don't have drinks that I'm forgetting about.

I understand that it takes time and that it's slower for some than for others BUT and that's a very big BUT (BUTT!!!!!) four months at the same weight is not how any programme should work.

Believe me if I were paying to go to group and was staying the same for four months I'd be extremely !!!!ed off with spending all that money for no result.

I really do believe that there's some kind of metabolic imbalance and I'm determined to get to the bottom of it, whilst continuing to eat according to SW which I really do strongly believe in.

That's wise advice rob but I only suggested it to mm, knowing that she (like my friend) was already firmly ingrained in cooking the SW way and her doctor might want her to think calories as an experiment. You're so right that it would be possible to live on cakes and crisps and stay within calories!

i aprreciate that , can i ask (sorry if to personal) what weight you are and how much further you have to target ?
the reason why i ask is many of the people i hear from particualrry struggle when they are getitng close to target .

have you thought about attending a group even if just for a few weeks 1. start as a new member , and essentially go back the beggining start a new chapter in your sw journey . 2. the support of others , hints and tips is invaribly helpful , 3, the consutants are trained to help when your struggling
also people tend to lose more when they visit a group

im not saying your doing anything wrong or that it will guarentte a change but it might help and we all need that a times
