Thanks for starting the new thread FE.

 newbies, this is a lovely friendly and supportive thread.

I'd agree with kjmtidea that it's a good plan to join a group. Even if you just go for one week and get the introductory talk and the books before going it alone it's worth it. The books are much more informative than the magazines which are more about recipe ideas plus the motiational weightloss stories. Anyone seen a voucher for free membership anywhere? They often appear in magazines at this time of the year.

Sharalee, if you like your meat and potatoes then I think that the Extra Easy plan is probably the best for you provided you don't have a problem with eating plenty of fruit/veg alongside.

frogga, you've been given loads of ideas for soups and other lunch ideas but to bang on about the HM soup.:o I don't know which recipes you tried but adding lentils is a great way of thickening soups. Lentil and veg is probably my favourite.
From quotes on the facebook SW page people are stating there will be a voucher for free membership on the 5th Jan in the Mirror newspaper. This will probably start the domino effect with other papers and magazines like in the summer. Consultants are also doing their door to door rounds of canvassing now as my son has been asked if he would help send the fliers out.

It was a voucher in the Mirror and their intro to Slimming World that prompted me to join in January. They had a series of booklets over a few days with recipe ideas etc.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • Thanks for the shiny new thread. Am in with gusto - I am going to hit target in 2013!

Today so far - porridge with berries and banana, soup (homemade , lentil.) Tea will be fajitas (no wraps for me - it'll be new pots!).

    Eating lots of fruit too!
    :jFlylady and proud of it:j

A new thread - how exciting and it's come at just the right time.

No weigh in for me last week so am due to go again next Wed.
Have no idea whether I've gained because I haven't been near the scales but I expect a smallish gain.

Have not gone mad but have eaten a few bits I wouldn't normally.
The "Xmas extras" are nearly all gone now so as soon as they are, hubby and I will be back on the straight and narrow.

Happy New SW Year to one and all on here.:)
  • Thanks FE for starting the new thread, I'd just come on to sort it. Littlest is ill again ( I seem to type that more than anything else.) and got in the way of me doing so before.

If I'm eating spicy cheddar - such as cheddar with peppers/chilli and jalapenos in, do you think I can count this as a HEB or should I syn it?
I count my Cranberries as syns - but not my wenslydale ;) but then this is the girl thats over half a stone heavier in just a week. So not sure I'd be listening to me.

I can't remember all the newbies names, but for those that doubt how you can lose weight with a pile of pasta/rice - try it for a week - stick to the plan.. don't listen to us ;)
Though being 6 stone lighter in just 8.5 months is evidence enough for me..
Lots of leaflets going around right now - free membership to group.

I going back on the wagon Jan 7th, am away until then so can't start before. However, i currently have a SW Classic Chicken Curry bubbling away on the hob ! It's in the Curry Heaven book (a must for any SW curry fan !) Even when i'm not sticking to the diet i still cook SW meals because i love them.

Last year i also bought the Italian and Flavours of the World books, the recipes are fabulous, the Chicken Chow Mein is as good as any takeaway and really easy to make.

It will be good to pop in here every day for tips and motivation xxx

HEB or HEA are your healthy extras. Hea is for milk and cheese. HEB is breads, crispbreads, soups, dried fruits, cereal bars or hifi bars (available from group)
