Ok Stef, thanks for looking, you are a gemI thought they were, it was just the sugar on the ingredents list that threw me x By the way they were very nice and threw in a pot with some mince beef (extra lean of course) with onions mushrooms and a few more frozen peppers it made a lovey and very quick spag bol with a nice little kick to it

Have been craving carrot sticks and hummus for the past few days so whilst I was in Mr Ms picking up chips, mixed veg and a few other bits I grabbed myself a small bag of carrots, half a cucumber, some lemon and coriander hummus and a lettuce. Couldn't find any cous cous though :S
I've also just been informed that Birds Eye baked to perfection chilli and ginger salmon is free on EE and only £2 in there at the moment! So, as the bf doesn't like fish (well unless it's in batter from a chip shop) going to treat myself to a box - I think you only get two portions a box so wouldn't pay any more than £2 then will grab some cous cous. That way two lunches next week will be the salmon cooled and flaked with cous cous that will be mixed with carrots (raw), sweetcorn, cucumber and shredded lettuce...lush and all free!
I want to get away from sandwiches for lunch as since starting work I've been in a bit of a rut with them so thinking next week will be:
Monday -ham salad wrap + cucumber and carrot sticks with hummus
Tuesday- the salmon and cous cous salad
Wednesday- erm, maybe another ham salad wrap
Thursday-salmon and cous cous salad
Friday - canapes at a work thing over lunch followed by a mugshot
Shocked by the price of some stuff:
Half a cucumber 40p but its tiny
apples are so expensive from the supermarkets same for satsumas
peppers - love these but so pricey
Gonna try and get apples and peppers from Makro at the weekend if I can
I was grocery shopping today and I thought the fruit and veg was v. good value. I was at Morrisons and they had bags of about 6 Braeburn Apples for £1, lovely big pineapples £1, massive mangoes for £1. I also got a pack of fresh raspberries and a pack of blueberries for £3 (for both).0 -
Morning all,
Just following on from last night's discussion about aspartame, I've just read the original 1998 paper (which is where I assume most of these sites have got their info) and the response paper and I stand by what I said last night. The original paper has spurious methods (missed out some vital controls) and used rats in their study, which have a different method for metabolising alcohols (like methanol) than higher mammals. As I said, the amounts of methanol produced are way below the safe limit anyway - from the response paper (just to note, the FDA and EFSA say the acceptable daily intake of aspartame is 50 and 40 mg/kg day, so half of what is mentioned here):
"To be able to measure an elevation of blood methanol above control one must ingest a dose of about 100 mg/kg of aspartame. This would be the equivalent of one half can of diet beverage (100 mg) per kilogram of body weight, or about 25 cans at one time for a 50 kg person, in order to detect an elevation in blood methanol level."
I'm personally not a big fan of mullerlights, diet coke etc. but it's because I don't like the taste that much, but I do still eat and drink stuff with aspartame- you'd be hard pushed to avoid it these days. I don't know about the sugar craving theory but at least in terms of the above, as far as I'm concerned, we're safe!
Anyway, I have bored you enough! Disorganised EE day today:
B: 2 x HiFi light (B), milk (A), banana
L: Paella (2) from freezer, satsuma
T: Thai chicken curry (1) and rice, pitta (7)
S: Yogurt

Lush - can't remember whether you have an Aldi nearby or not? If so the Super 6 veggies are great, and they seem to have bags of apples for £1 most of the time. They also have aubergines and pineapples for about 80p when not in the Super 6- cheaper than Asda. I do go to Asda (or Tesco- no Morrisons nearby but am sure they'd do them too) for big bags of Smartprice peppers - about 1.50 for 5 or 6 peppers and if we're lucky they are all red and yellow, don't really like green! If they only have the 3 packs I refuse to buy them as they are way too expensive, or get a 3 pack in Aldi as cheaper. Also get the big boxes of mushrooms in Asda. Occasionally get stuff in Lidl but find the quality nowhere near as good.2011: [STRIKE]Houses[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]weddings[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]cats[/STRIKE]

Just popped in for 5 mins so haven't read everything but am interested in the aspartame discussion. I buy the Stevia stuff to put on cereal and in tea now - that's natural and I believe OK.
I do try and avoid diet drinks, probably have about one in a month and just an occasional mullerlite yoghourt. Got to dash!0 -
Hey all,
I have very loosely started this now to drop 1 1/2 stone and have lost 5lb in two weeks, quite steady. Mainly due to eating the same meals as the OH who has lost now for 4 weeks in a row.
Just wondered if anyone has
Slow cooker recipes for chicken/chicken legs
Alternative ideas for ham salad for lunch.0 -
Hi Everyone I've had a 2lb loss, but, I bet next week I shall be back to square one. I keep yo yoing, and have been doing this for 3 years I need to get below 11st. I'm usually 8 1/2 but when I gave up smoking in 2003 my weight went up.Then I got high blood pressure, diabetes then cancer. this year I should be C free. But if only my weight would come down. My wardrobe contains more 12-14 clothes than my now 16 going on 18. It's time I got back to normal. But, I'm trying. I AM NOT GOING TO BUY BIGGER CLOTHES NEVER!!!0

Good morning Gang
WI this morning recorded no loss, no gain = STS
I can't believe it. That is after being poorly for 4 days and hardly keeping anything in my tummy.
That means I've lost 1lb in the last 2 weeks. My wife is going to laugh herself silly
I know this sounds daft, but do you think if I ate more, I would lose weight?0
