Well I know I said I'd consider doing the project333 but after totting up what actually fits/I like in my wardrobe, I came up with 30 items! Add on my 3 footwear and 2 coats... I've only got to dump two items:rotfl: Think I'll just clear out the things that are too big/no longer like and pack away the things that are a bit too tight.

I like the idea of a freedom day but I don't really have anything I don't wear often apart from some white jeans (not ideal in winter or with 4 cats at home) and a rather dressy long dress for special occasions (I don't care how many times people have seen me in it, it does every dressy occasion, with a short sleeved cardi in summer, long sleeved cardi in winter:rotfl:)

Lotti - I like the idea of no spend months. I did want to buy a new coat in the sales and I do need to buy some new undies, preferably in the sales too as nearly every morning Hubby comments on my 2 holey, grey bras. Once I've found replacements, I don't intend on buying clothes for quite a while, probably not til summer at least. I'll pledge not to buy clothes (apart from the above items) until May :D

Despite having been a member of the board for a while, I've been pretty hopeless about addressing my debt in a consistent manner but 2013 is going to be the year for me, and this is going to be my first challenge.

I'm not much of a clothes horse. Shoes, though, are a different matter entirely. And I have a weakness for buying pretty things for DD.

So, please can I be added to this challenge:

    £200

Which is £50 for me (plus any vouchers - I already have £30 from Christmas) and £150 for DD.

Thank you and good luck, everyone.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hello all,

I managed to not spend any money on clothes at all last year. I also lost weight and became debt free, due in no small part to my participation in this challenge. It can be done! (please see 2012 thread!)

This year I have made a list of clothes that needed replacing due to weight loss or wear and tear. Spending £3 on a pair of leggings in Primarni on January 1st made me feel physically sick after not shopping for a year, but they were to replace a pair that are coming apart at the seams! :rotfl:

So this year I'm using this week and £100 to replace:
1 pair of leggings - done £3 Primarni
    1 pair of jeans - done £28 M+S outlet (going for quality-reduced from £40)
2 pairs of work trousers (have to be found in a charity shop) - done £10.98 BHF shop (both M+S! bonus!)
    2 bras
    1 pair of tracksuit bottoms

and then for the rest of the year I'm not going to be spending anything again. Unless it is to replace a worn out item that I can't fix.

So if it's ok I'll just pop in once a month to update on my challenge, so I would like a number for the front page please, but I don't want to set an amount as I'll be temped to spend up to it, if you see what I mean.

Good luck to everyone on the journey!

    My steps for success are:
    1. If you shop online, unsubscribe from those tempting emails that remind you of what lovely things you can buy on a daily basis. They are evil!
    2. Freedom Friday. Helped me see the amazing stuff I already had.
    3. Think of what the money you were going to spend on clothes could go towards to bring long term happiness, not a short term buzz. Last year, for me, it was getting debt free. This year is a new central heating system!
    4. Each month that you don't spend anything makes you want to do another month. It gets quite addictive.
    5. Ask yourself 'Do I really need it?' rather than 'Do I really want it?'
    6. Chocolate and/or cake is always a good reward! Resist temptation in a clothes shop - have a little sweetie to celebrate! (This all depends on whether you want to lose weight too, but setting your own rewards make it fun and personal to you!) :D

well done Antwacky - how on earth did you manage that?

I am aiming for a no clothes spend Jan - finding it hard going but deffo trying hard to stick to it. I have one clothes order to collect tomorrow from an order placed in Dec and that's it. If they aren't nice or don't fit they are going straight back. If I can do Jan then I can do Feb - plus I have a giftcard to spend from Christmas which was a present so this doesn't have to count in the spends, thankfull!

I think I'd better unsubscribe from the final 2 emails from shops to stop the temptation, thanks for the tip1

So I think I will also aim for 2013 to contain 6 No Spend Months, as I would really like to continue the chilled approach I have now! :A Anyone want to join me aiming for some spend-free months?

I'll join you - I really need to reign in the sale shopping that developed last year. I don't really need that much due to how much I bought last year so I can wear it all this year in the summer and keep the winter stuff going now

I wish us lots of luck!

  • Wow, well done antwacky! :T:T:T

I know what you mean about no-spend months being addictive, I racked up a few last year and it quite often helped me not to buy anything near the end of the month if it would give me a no spend!

I can't believe your bravery at going for another year with minimal buying!

Day 3 and no spends for me :D

    Hi

I would like to join this challenge please. I am setting a target of £240 for the year (£20 a month). I am planning to lose a lot of weight this year - I really need to as my weight went on when I had kids and they are now 8 and 18 months !!! As a result I have a tonne of clothes in the attic which were too good to throw out with my expanding girth and therefore with the weightloss I am hoping these will help suffice my clothes buying. I will need new underwear and some up to date bits if I do lose weight.

So in big letters for the front page £240 for 2013.

Can I join and have a target of £100, I think I usually spend around £500 per year.
    Thanks
