    Today's money lesson is...

Always, always, ALWAYS double, triple and quadruple check you have ticked the "change up to 1pm on date of check-in" box NOT the "non-refundable" box when booking hotels for work courses which then get CANCELLED.

Not clothes related I know, but it has put a right downer on my day!

    Foolish lotti.

oh lotti - never mind eh? cant be all things to all men and we still love you and think you are marvelous despite the mistake. hopefully you didnt go on retail therapy !!!! have MSE therapy instead :) it is free :) therefore leaving you more money to [STRIKE]spend on clothes [/STRIKE] save :p

This is getting really difficult for me. Not just because I am craving for clothes but because I am curbing my spend in all aspect of my life.

I so want to be normal and just be whoever I want to be :(:(:(. Sometimes it feels that all this house buying saga might not be for people like me.

hey blogger, i can totally relate. I am having to go military style and have been for 2 years to get my debt down. i thought i would eliminate my debt last october but i needed to buy a car.. this stretched to Jan 2013 but due to life it looks like i wont have paid it off by march either... and now I have to save for a wedding in sept. Also some very ill grandparents (i dont have parents) i thought i would be able to have one month of spending norm but i dont have that choice now...

will prob have to go on debt minimum payments to be able to do both.

I know it sounds terrible that i am dreading having to save for my wedding and not having that one month of freedom has really hit me mentally but we must accept who we are and we are going to have bad days.

I use MSE to divert any time i used to spend on shopping etc, and instead allow one treat a month (otherwise i go a bit mental). normally it is a tiny amount but it the gesture. I know you work long hours and are in central london, do you know wandsworth college has extremely discounted beauty treatments?

    £10 - deep cleansing facial
    £6 - manicure or pedicure??

i havent used as i am too far away.

anyway also i make money saving a bit of a game, that helps

Please may I join? I know it's a bit late but I've a spending diary so I know exactly what I've spent in January.

My current budget is £1000 a year so I'd like to half that to £500 a year or £41.67 per month. I know that's not as brave as most of you ladies but I'm trying to be realistic - no point falling off the bandwagon and giving up immediately. I've also gone up a dress size so the majority of my wardrobe no longer fits, oh and I've already been merrily spending away in January.

    Spends in 2013 to date:
    1. £3.25 (embarrassingly this is in the 50% off sale in the charity shop) - for a skirt and top
    2. £40.50 (friend used her 10% NHS discount) - dress for my birthday party
    3. £90.00 (reduced from £130) - flat black boots. These could be the boots I've been searching for for years but they have yet to arrive so may get sent back yet

    £133.75 / £500 - eek! Oh well, well done everyone else :T

Please may I have a number? Thanks!

Edit: just updating my budget figures and realised that I already had £119.51 in my clothing budget (left over from 2012 + Jan returns) - I did consider adding this on to my £500 but decided to stick to my challenge but it means I'm only to spend £380.49 of "new" money :) [if this is jibberish to everyone else please just ignore me]

    006: €34.08/€500

My January spend was €34.08 but the RRP of what I bought was €98.48 as I mostly only buy things at 70% off.

There was an extra €32 spent on 3 items from Primark but that's not included in spends as I paid with gift vouchers from Christmas.

Spend includes €6.65 for dry cleaning a cashmere jumper. Dry cleaning is a very rare spend for me as normally I would hadwash such things but I was afraid I'd damage it.

There were 9 items in (and 0 out unfortunately)

    1)Vintage dress from a charity shop €3

2)Primark vintage look black clutch bag reduced to €5 but RRP €11

    3)Primark teal blouse/top €11

4)Primark black jumper with studded neckline €16

    5)Gap t-shirt €4.99 RRP €14.99

    6)Another Gap t-shirt €4.99 RRP €14.99

7)Jimmi Jams Pyjamas from Boots 75% off sale €5.50 RRP €29

8)Pair of tights from Awear €2.50 RRP €12 (yes I am being strict about counting every single item:rotfl:)

9)A pair of Montray sandles from Debenhams, it's not a brand I'd normally like but they look exactly like silver Birkenstocks and will definitely be handy in the summer €6.45 RRP €21.50

So I'm doing OK with the €500 clothes budget so far, got quite a lot for the money spent.

This little accounting exercise has taken up way too much time, will try and simplify it for next month by buying less.
