Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Rampant Recycler Hung up my suit!
I de-cluttered a cupboard this afternoon, where I'd been storing various boxes and other packaging for eBay. A lot of the boxes were sizes that I just don't use, and I halved the amount of things in the cupboard. It'll be so much easier to find the boxes I need now.

After I'd done it, I was left with two large mounds of cardboard ready for recycling. Fortunately, it's the kerbside recycling collection tomorrow, so I'll put it out tomorrow morning.

But I certainly understand that feeling of being overwhelmed. It was a bit startling to end up with some much stuff to leave the house, just from one cupboard (it was a fairly big cupboard, but they were two large piles!)

It's not just the de-cluttering, it's getting rid of the stuff afterwards that takes the time!

I just keep telling myself that the de-cluttering is an ongoing process, it hasn't got an end date, it's a lifestyle. Therefore, it's ok if some days I only do a little, because I'm in it for the long haul and I will get there in the end.

If I think like that, I don't feel as if I've got to get rid of piles of stuff everyday, just one thing in the bin all goes towards the end result.

:T Well done everybody - looks like our NY Resolutions are really taking off with us all.

hobbitfancier - my OH also collects postcards (among lots of other things )and he's got those albums mentioned by greengoblin. Before that he kept them in old shoe-boxes which worked OK but didn't protect them very well. Unfortunately, he hasn't found any to take the modern 'panoramic style' postcards - but they're great for his collection of old cards. Most of those are the 'regular' traditional size.

Having had a child-minding weekend and a 'scrappy day' today, I've got a full-day at home tomorrow and Wednesday - so no more excuses for me.

I've now got some empty plastic crates that can take some of the 'over-abundance' of mugs/plates etc that are currently cluttering up all the worktops in my 'minute kitchen'. Should look much better once those are out of the way. I'll put some of them to one side for the CS for Thursday morning.

I need to check out my small chest-freezer tomorrow. There's some ice forming around the hinges - not sure if it could be something to do with the downstairs porch being rather damp. I did notice some condensation forming on the side of the freezer when we first moved in, but didn't reckon on it becoming ice . Can see me having to tackle it with the steamer and then give it a good drying - hope it works :(. Wonder if a dehumidifier would be of any help ......................

I'll get back to you all in the morning - Lilyplonk xx

    Morning

For those feeling overwhelmed don't lose heart.

This is hard work but we can make it a bit more fun or feel a bit easier by playing some music, doing a timed declutter of say 15 minutes.

Focus your decluttering on things that are in the way. Annoying you. Or even upsetting you.

I have some books on the top of the stairs that have bad vibes so need to go. :j

You will get things more under control. You can do this. :A

Who's up for a mad 15 minutes of decluttering today? :j

    Hi Skint

Welcome to the thread. The lovely thing is there are no rules, so if you wish to count your DD2 as an 'out' that is fine :rotfl:

Worked yesterday, am working today and tomorrow and got the grandchildren on Thursday, so there may not be a lot done this week :(

Well done everyone, the charity shops must love you :T

Wow donnajt you have done brill. I was thinking P333 sounded impossible but you've shown it can be done. I was thinking i need a plain navy jumper for work, then starting to go through my drawers guess what i found :rotfl:1 nice marks and spencer cotton jumper with a gentle cable. Absolutely ideal! So defo going to get through those drawers see what other treasures I have lurking. Like the airing cupboard before they're so jammed full i avoid delving! I reckon the airing cupboard now has a quarter of what it did and is lovely to use (and i now know what we really do need)
Also thought i needed a new hairdryer but guess what i found!
