Hurray! One fridge freezer totally completely absolutely empty! Turned off and now not paying any electricity for it. Nice feeling. Also cooked a chicken and some roast potatoes in the tiniest space today, just room for the two dishes, so I wasn't paying to heat a huge box and only using half of it. Again, good feeling.

Added another few bits to the declutter list too, it's all starting (just) to come together.

Well done everyone on your decluttering so far. I wonder how much, collectively, we have helped our charities to raise? Quite a sum I would imagine, have a pat on the back all.

  • After building up a huge heap of things to be donated, I thought I'd better find somewhere to take them today so that's been done. That is now three large boxes and a bin bag full of stuff that has gone off to a charity shop. I had to really force myself not to look through the full boxes before they went off as I know I'd end up changing my mind about half of it! Oh well, it's gone now.

I also got rid of a polyester dress that always gets stinky under the arms after an hour of wear, no matter how clean it and I am to start with. It's in the bin - I wouldn't want to inflict that on anybody else. Pee-yew!

Filed all my paperwork including years of pension statements, so I'm pleased. Got 3 drawers of misc rubbish to go through today - I'm sure 90% of it can be binned. Do I really need slate writable tiles that can hang round wine bottles when I don't even drink? Whatbout boxes of mini playing cards that I've kept for 20+ years just in case? Does a girl need 11 travel plugs? Old bunches of keys - no idea. Also planning on culling shoes.

I'm still searching for things to declutter - it's getting harder and harder, but I think that's a good thing :rotfl:

    * Four 'posh' carrier bags - the type made of card with cord handles - RC
    * Weird phone/car gadget I found in my car - bin
    * Small pack of playing cards from Christmas cracker - CS

I still MUST finish this job application - nearly done now :o

ETA : forgot a couple of things

    * large parcel for Give and Makeup charity - PO
    * another Ama$on sale - PO

:hello: everybody - good to be back 'in touch' with you all again :). I can already see that there's lots of posts from regulars, returnees and newbies - special HS656484171.giffor newbies - great to see that we've all survived the Christmas/New Year and come out the other side of the festivities full of renewed 'decluttering energy' :j:T!

I can't believe how far this thread has progressed since my moving day/last visit (29th Dec) - you all seem to be 'going great guns' at flinging. I'm still in the unpacking stage and shouting 'aaahhh that's where it got to!' at least 10 times a day ........... when I eventually 'rediscover' my two smallest Kitchen Devil knives, I'll :dance:a jig!

My major  has been that all my 'carefully labelled' boxes didn't end up in the rooms that they were 'marked/destined' for - ie mugs, food, pans etc were underneath 'stuff' in the back bedroom - heyho! Oh yes - and No.2 son took down my lovely living room curtains (90insx90ins) and just 'stuffed them' into a box - complete with hooks/rings attached - then sealed it with tape unlabelled !!!!! Drycleaning is needed + huge amount of altering - there's a radiator below living room window :(.

I've so far read up to page 12 of the thread - and intend to make sure that I catch up with what you've all been doing and your great resolutions. You lot are a real inspiration :j. Already found some good tips cropping up and I certainly need as many of those as I can find :) - so please keep them coming ................. :T

I'm discovering ways of creating storage where little exists and have 'hanging hooks' inside cupboards / on kitchen tiles / on side of f/freezer; 'over-door hooks' on bedroom/bathroom/airing cupboard doors plus the idea of adding an extra shelf into kitchen wall cupboard and two more into the ex-airing cupboard. The  of putting the TD into the airing cupboard proved to be a winner - with space for my airer down the side - but, for now, I'm running it off an extension lead into the living room socket :D. Just have to keep rememberng to double-check the condenser unit after each using lol.

All emptied packing-boxes are being flattened and stashed in the outdoor storage lock-up (defunct coal hole) - these are destined for freecycle, I'm sure that other people will benefit from them and I desperately need to free up the space.

Now that I'm back 'on-line', OH is going to set up my 'Christmas Kindle' - so there'll be lots of books heading for the CS within the next week or so :j.

CS has already benefitted from some decluttering and I'm being good (at the moment, at least) about only buying 'essential' food items - bread / milk / fruit / veg. My food stash for 'family catered events that didn't happen' will keep us going for a while rolleyes.gif - just need to keep an eye on the use-by dates lol.

Managed to find a couple of bargains at the local Second-Hand shops - drop-leaf table (£14 +£5 del from Age UK) - seats 6 but takes up very little space and comp desk with upper shelf for printer (£20 from Dr Barnardo's) again takes up very little space compared with old desk.

So sorry for such a long post - didn't intend it to be like this :o.

Can't wait to fully catch up on all your New Year news - speak later - love Lilyplonk xx

Where did you get your over-door hooks? I need some of these for my guest room/office/sewing room but haven't seen any.

Not feeling too great today but I'm determined to get more done so may just rest on the bed looking through a drawer or two.. Have a great decluttering day everyone x

    Argos sell them:

I've got some that came from Next too.
