Trying to make the lounge look tidy, decided best way was for me to sit on the sofa and order the rest of the family round like a dictator!

Along the way managed to declutter:

    Footstool (old and stained)
    Candle holders (burnt edges)
Debris from bottom of old handbag
    Fabric sample
Photo album (Mum to take home)
Survey (completed and ready to post off)
    Crochet patterns (project all completed)
Coasters (broken or ripped on top)
    Stained cushion
    Easter balloon

Still not looking tidy enough, feeling fed up now. Need a break, then will have to have another go.

Got up from sofa and did the rest of the tidying myself. Decluttered:

Fabric scraps (too small to be usable, rest all in same box now)
Stretchy fabric (won't use this, in charity bag)
Folder of old birth certificates and other family documents (hopefully my Mum will take these as they were her mother's)
    Big pile of CDs
    Postcards
    Bracelet

Found a pile of new coasters to replace those which I've chucked recently. Hopefully we are getting there.
  • Sounds like you've been busy cte1111 .... it makes you wonder where all the clutter comes from doesn't it?..

Not done a great deal of decluttering today, I did sort the craft room, there isnt really anything in there that needs chucking out as it all comes in handy, I did clean all shelves, desk and units down and sorted 2 drawers so its all nice and in order

I've also changed the living room around and put the tree up this afternoon as not going to have chance to do it next week.

    out
A box of unwanted xmas decs... charity shop
    broken ornament... bin
    2 candle holder... charity shop

Thats the lot for today, will start on the spare room tomorrow .... that should be fun cos its a huge room full of junk! ...but its gotta be done.

  • Evening.....decided to see what de-cluttering I could do today:

One pile of cat food taken to a local cat rescue centre
Box full of glass (jars/bottles) - recycling bins at dump/tip
One (past it) pot/pan stand - taken to dump/tip
Christmas cards to Australia posted (yesterday)
    Toilet brush binned
Another pile of paper ready to get shredded
  • This weekend we're slowly working our way through all the junk that doesn't have a home after the building work. We've managed to send a large bag and a box full of clothes/re-gifted presents to the charity shops. It seemed a bit of a waste (presents) in a way - and not very MSE - but I just want our space back if I'm honest... I have no clue how my house is still bursting at the seams after increasing the space we have by 1/3!
  • Gave 3 bags to my niece and a pair of ear muffs

My bedroom is the next target for decluttering. This morning I got rid of:

    Bath lily
    Pretty box
Single slipper (not sure where its mate went)
    Box lid (ditto)
    Old pants
Toiletry bag (stained and hopefully will get new one for Christmas)
    Body polish

Put lots of other bits and pieces away, will have another go later in the week.

    Also decluttered today:

2 patchwork squares finished and posted
Old iron thrown away (got nice new one)
  • I have a normal kitchen!

After a good couple of weeks of decluttering I have found the table, work surfaces and I now know what is in the cupboards. I am so, so happy.

I have thrown out over 10 - yes, 10! - binliners of rubbish, most of them full of assorted pieces of paper that had been dumped in drawers and cupboards. Another 2 binliners and 4 boxes full have gone to charity.

Today I am going to scrub and clean every nook and cranny and tonight we are going eat at the table rather than in front of the TV.

I now promise myself that I am never, ever going to let the kitchen get even slightly cluttered again, no matter how little help I get from DH and kids. Tomorrow I start on the hallway and landing - several boxes of junk have been dumped there ready to go into the loft. This time I'm going to catch them before they get up there and declutter all the junk out!

Think it may be time to start lurking on the Flylady thread :)
