Mixed weekend, gumtree buyers didn't turn up to collect things.
Few bits out:
23 - 42 Old Guiding magazines recycled
43 Old handbag too worn out to sell, binned.
We did have a big sort and tidy in our living room and a bit in the other areas too yesterday after I had a meltdown on Friday morning about the state of our house (we've been out a lot doing voluntary stuff the last few weeks and things were just getting dumped about).
We got 2 full bins of paper recycling from there but I didn't count how much.
Put the old sideboard we dismantled in the loft and identified 7 pieces of surplus furniture from our old house which we haven't used in new and listed them all on Gumtree this morning.
We're at home more this week and also next Sunday so I'm hoping we can continue with the sorting and cleaning then. I have a pretty high threshold for cleaning so it must have been bad last week!
Also got a pile of clothes for FB & a bag of old stuff for a 'c$sh for clothes' type thing that's started near us, going to give it a go.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

May I join in? I have been struggling to get my house decluttered but find it so hard as we are a household of seven but I am the only person who seems to be bothered by the clutter, everyone else seems to come behind me and see the surface I have just uncovered as an invite to dump whatever is in their hand on that spot. My husband would be a hoarder of the kind seen on TV programmes if I gave him half the chance and my kids appear to have inherated this gene. I find the whole process of decluttering overwhelming and quite lonely, so the support offered on this thread is very much needed.
Is it possible to ever get a house decluttered when others don't give a monkeys? Has anyone here actually managed to do it?
So I have decided that enough is enough and this morning I am going to start to sort this out. As I find stuff that is dumped I plan to chuck it all in a box and let everyone know that they have three days to go through it, stake their claims and rehome, otherwise it goes to charity!
Feeling very positive about this morning and eager to get on and make a start
Hi Tiffany
I only have 4 in my house but we also have the issue of knowing where someone sits by the rubbish left behind:rotfl:
It will be tough sorting things out at the start when no one is on board but eventually I think they will get on board.
I agree with putting things in a box and giving them 3 days to claim it - I did this with dirty clothes that were in the bathroom but kept the bag hidden and then when they had no clean clothes they got the message:rotfl:.
Every time I got a bin bag out they all went running:rotfl:
Make sure you stick to your guns and actually get rid of things though.
My children have a habit of leaving rubbish everywhere which I pick up but really they don't learn as they never put things in the bin so I think I need to start making them do it:T
Good Luck0
