    Quickly grabbed this morning:

    Sponge
2 almost finished bottles of shampoo that don't really suit my hair

Had a little go at the lounge and decluttered:
    Bits of paper and brochures
Magazines (the sofa is still full of magazines, need to be more ruthless with these, not ready to do that yet though)
    Glass (damaged)

As I wasn't getting very far, then decided to try the kids' playroom, with my son's assistance decluttered:
    2 bags of toys
2 bags of rubbish (broken toys and things with bits missing)
1 bag of recycling (mostly children's workbooks from last year)
1 plastic box (maybe if there are fewer boxes to put things in, this will encourage them to throw things away more)

Remaining toys and games have been put away in labelled boxes, although there are still some more areas to go at, ran out of energy for today.

  • I've been working all week & on a course this weekend so very little to add to list. However, I did remember to return 2 large Tupperwares to their rightful owner. I did also manage to drop 3 binliners full of clothes to the charity shop. Items already listed but nice to get them out of the way.

Looking forward to my day off on Monday when I can do some therapeutic decluttering.

I've been out for most of the day so just grabbed 5 minutes to declutter whilst watching Downton Abbey, managed to get rid of:

    2 games
    3 DVDs
Wii accessory that has never been used
Empty case from broken Wii game
    Tissue paper
    Plastic bracelet
Cards from taxi firms which for some reason we were collecting in the hall
  • Hello :)

May I join in? I have been struggling to get my house decluttered but find it so hard as we are a household of seven but I am the only person who seems to be bothered by the clutter, everyone else seems to come behind me and see the surface I have just uncovered as an invite to dump whatever is in their hand on that spot. My husband would be a hoarder of the kind seen on TV programmes if I gave him half the chance and my kids appear to have inherated this gene. I find the whole process of decluttering overwhelming and quite lonely, so the support offered on this thread is very much needed.

I have spent the weekend getting more and more fed up with the ever growing piles of clutter around the house. It's not so bad that there are no floors, but you can tell who sits where in the living room due to the semi-circle of junk around each seat!

Is it possible to ever get a house decluttered when others don't give a monkeys? Has anyone here actually managed to do it?

I'm so fed up of having to do a panic-clean everytime someone visits - do you know the clean where everything get swept up into a couple of boxes to sort later and then hidden away in the loft? I have a loft that is full to bursting as none of these boxes see the light of day once they have gone up there and this stopped us from getting a wasp nest sorted out during the summer as no one could safely enter the loft.

So I have decided that enough is enough and this morning I am going to start to sort this out. As I find stuff that is dumped I plan to chuck it all in a box and let everyone know that they have three days to go through it, stake their claims and rehome, otherwise it goes to charity!

Even though it is a little late in the month, can I join in with the November declutter challenge? I'm aiming to get a minimum of 500 items out by the end of November.

Feeling very positive about this morning and eager to get on and make a start :)

  • I'm having a similar problem with OH, I work full time and long hours while he is home full time. I just cannot get him motivated, the house is a complete dirty mess. I spent months over the winter dealing with my hoarded stuff but he will not tidy or clean. He's doing some under huge pressure now but just by picking things up and dumping them loose in the loft that I spent months clearing.

I'm running out of patience....any ideas?
