I've made a start (although in a general sense, rather than on one specific room). I've sorted all the clothes that don't fit (there are many :o) and put them into bags according to size and put them in the loft. I now only have clothes that fit me in my wardrobe :). Also added to the charity bag all the things I wouldn't wear any more even if I could fit into them...

I also sorted through the toys we were given for LO into a "christmas present stash" and a "rainy day stash" (where we can produce them when we're stuck indoors) - they're now in our big "monica cupboard". I'm aiming that with the exception of towels, bedding, etc, things in the monica cupboard will only be there a limited time until we have found them a proper home...

Later tonight, a massive pile of paperwork to declutter...

Just sorted through some piles of paper on DH's desk and got rid of some empty envelopes, email receipts for stuff (sewing machine needles, books, DVDs etc) and found some paperwork for the car which I'll file away - all the bits I found have gone in the recycling bag. Just seen some magazines which he hasn't looked at which are old too; will put them in the magazine rack on top of the unit in the dining room - daren't throw them out without his go ahead!

In an episode of Friends, clean/tidy-freak Monica was found to have a built in cupboard so full of rubbish and disorganised, completely opposed to her normal character :)

So I now have a nice new built-in cupboard, also full of stuff.

I have been decluttering a lot this year and I almost feel like my home has been rejuvenated.

I think I will start again in 2014 if there is a one thing a day challenge on here.

I've been de-cluttering for a few years now. I set myself a one thing (or batch of things) a day challenge at the start of the year.

I've found this thread really helpful to stay focused. Although no one else was doing the same challenge as me, it was still helpful to read about everyone else's efforts.

I've only got a few more things to go before I've hit my target. It's just as well, as December is my month off from de-cluttering.

I wish I'd found MSE when I started in 2009 - I would have liked to join in a 500 a month challenge!

I am another who has used this thread for inspiration.

Instead of reading a book at night i started at the beginning and read this thread, the hoarding thread and my homes a mess thread. It really motivated me to clear out loads of stuff.
I think its more than a coincidence that as I have read them all I have slowed right down.

I really need to get going again. I have done a drawer of old paperwork and I am going to take a bin bag upstairs and fill it and do a drop of at the CS en route to work in the morning.

I just want an organised home, where everything has a place and its easy to keep tidy with the minimum of fuss.

It is the fortnightly rubbish collection tomorrow, as opposed to the 'other' week when it is recycling, so I'm scanning the house for junk. It's looking much clearer already but I know there's more to go, that would not be suitable for the CS or Freecycle.

DH went off to work with a box for the CS that takes electrical items- a small heater, a Tesco Value Kettle and toaster that DS2 took to uni and never used.

I'll be checking over my costume jewellery today as there's a 'pre-loved' sale in DH's office for Children in Need, too good an opportunity to declutter somethings else to miss!

    Edit:
    So far today
    - heater CS
    - old bag binned
    - table felt offcut binned
    - old hangers binned

    115/200
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • Hi all

Trying to get back into the habit of posting on here as it really helped earlier in the year. Very small declutterings to report:

White Sky plus box - Freecycle
    Epilator - Freecycle
    Kitchen scales - Freecycle
    Purple lamp - Freecycle

Avon Clinical Anew cream - sold on ebay and posted

Despite 4th listing my Lakeland jewellery box still hasn't sold  I will keep relisting as really don't want to give it away. If it hasn't sold by Christmas it will go to CS or Freecycle though.
