Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

not done too much decluttering at home over the last few days as at work we have been given 4 weeks to quit our offices, and have nowhere to relocate to as yet....
....so massive decluttering going on there. It's pretty freeing tbh, with such a short time, we have no time to agonise over whether we should keep x and y, everything other than current projects and finance/HR is being sent to shredding.
although as I've brought personal things home, I've had to deal with those and have been quite ruthless.
everything I have done at home however is paying dividends, ds has 8 friends coming over for his birthday tomorrow, ordinarily I'd have to take a day off to clean and get things ready, but i'm very relaxed about it for perhaps the first time ever, despite the renovations disorganisation (I feel that people will understand that is temporary!)- a quick lick and polish tomorrow will do because the house is not that bad, people could even drop over unnanounced and I'd not have to run around shoving things in cupboards - it's not minimalist - I don't want it to be, but I'm not ashamed of my home:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
oh, MG - I hope you are OK.:AA/give up smoking (done)0

I have finally caught up on reading through and you've all been really busy this week.
MrsG - that's some major decluttering, hugs and best wishes with everything.
Well done everyone, hoping to join in again next week with the good work.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

That's almost how I feel now, in fact I'm almost ready to leave the bedroom door open when we have visitors, lol!
Hugs to Mrs G, I hope you're ok.
I've managed to get a bit done this week. After sorting out the cupboard of doom, I managed to fit a couple of boxes of DS's stuff in there. I sorted through DS's desk and put in CS box:-
9 fibre tip pens
a cartridge pen
2 erasers
a ruler
2 pencil sharpeners
11 small toys
a novelty candle
Also put a pile of papers, old posters, used note books into recycling, including all the paperwork from DS's first bank account, which was about 2 inches thick.
On Thursday I posted an ebay parcel, and after work yesterday I decided to go through all my ebay packaging, that I had in 4 bin bags in the shed. I brought it all in and took it up to the spare room to sort it, and made separate piles of jiffy bags, bubble wrap, air packaging, paper (for wrapping breakables), and plastic bags (for wrapping clothing). While going through all the bags, I binned/put for recycling anything that was tatty, then I sorted all the jiffy bags into sizes, flattened all the paper and plastic bags that I was keeping, and folded all the bubble wrap.
I ended up getting rid of a bin bag of paper, and a pile of cardboard to recycling (all taken by OH this morning), and a bin bag of rubbish. I also found about a dozen carrier bags, which I took to CS today. Everything that I kept has now been put neatly into 2 boxes, and put back in the shed, where it now takes up a lot less room, especially as the boxes were in the shed anyway.
I've sold 2 items on ebay and have bids on 6 items (all of which also have watchers, so hopefully will go higher before they finish), and watchers on 6 other items, most of which were almost sent to CS.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Not reported in for a while but the decluttering continues here. It's been a bit slow of late but has gathered pace this week as we've been decorating our dining room and changing the furniture. We've gone from a large dresser (full of all manner of 'stuff'') to a much neater sideboard, so lots of things have had to go. We've also cleared out the understairs cupboard and given it a coat of paint (never done before in the 12 years we've been here ). Lots of junk in there! It's now a neat, clean cupboard housing the hoover, ironing board & iron and a FEW other selected items. Everything is accessible for a change. We've freecycled the old furniture and have boxes of stuff to drop off at the CS when the snow clears.....

Morning all!
Very, very little done this week. Feel like I've been on the phone constantly to get things moving for my house purchase.
This morning I decided to sort out my toiletries. Didn't realise how many free samples and travel size items I had. Have moved these to the bathroom and removed the large almost full items to the drawers in the spare bedroom. I should get through the majority of them in the next couple of weeks. Some of them maybe no good when I open them because I have no idea how long they have been lying around but waste not want not. I have only chucked 2 as the packet suggested the contents were no good. 1 empty deodorant also gone.
I've been keeping on top of junk mail this week and putting it in the recycling as soon as it comes in. However I do still have 2 carrier bags of mail to go through and file/recycle/shred as necessary.
I will get there and need to step it up a notch as the move creeps ever closer.Starting mortgage balance 22/04/2013 £71,250
Overpayments to date £410
Current mortgage balance £70,6500 -
Hugs to MrsG
Here's my summary for this week
190 1973 football annual – charity
191 old invoices for eBay and Amazon purchases –recycling
192 Old door mat –bin
193 Instruction manual to previous garage door –recycling
194 One very old key – eBay
195 1957 holiday camp badge – eBay
196 1960’s drawing compass – eBay
197 t shirt – eBay
198 Thomas Bata commemorative medal – eBay
199 Jigsaw – eBay
200 Camcorder case – eBay
201 Wedding cake pillars – eBay
202 40 Sheets of heavy ivory coloured paper – eBay
I'm keeping on top of the day to day decluttering too - junk mail goes straight in to recycling, and I've put my birthday cards in recycling, instead of waiting for a coyuple of years before I do it!

Hi, I have been lurking for a while, please may I join you. I am a clutterer with boarding tendencies. The hoarding is pretty much under control after a house move 18 months ago when OH and I had to sort 30 years "stuff" in order not to need a mortgage for the removal fees!
The clutter is no-where near "Richard" proportions, but I don't aways have a great deal of physical energy and (chicken & egg) the untidyness makes this worse.
This morning I had a little blitz in the kitchen, this afternoon I have stalled as had several necessary phone calls and e-mails to send, my biggest problem is my paperwork cupboard of doom, a large cupboard at one side of Edwardian sideboard which has about 1 year's stuff needing sorting, shredding/filing, I did make a start on this a couple of weeks ago, but a nasty virus walloped OH and me so it got left. On the plus side, everything is paid.
My new mantra for 2013 has been "don't put it down, put it away", about 80% successful so far.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
