Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

Goodness, it's been a few days since I've had the chance to post (too busy decluttering!) - but inroads have been made. We've resorted to borrowing a couple of temporary wardrobes until we find ones we like, so I've finally been able to unpack clothes boxes from moving house. And I have a very full Ikea bag of clothes that are either for ebaying (have got a couple up already), or for charity shop. Probably about 25 items in total.
And I have about 50 odd copies of interior magazines in the boot of the car ready to depart as well - that feels like a weight lifted, having decided not to trawl through them all tearing out pictures. Now we're in our new house, my need for inspiration has dwindled, and a combination of Houzz and Pinterest works just fine for that!
So impressed with what everyone is achieving - both physically and mentally.0 -

Get the slimming world magazine back out of the recycling and put it on ebay!
I always kept my old magazines to go back to for recipes etc and a couple of years ago decided I would get rid of them. I sold every single one. Some people bought more than one magazine so I combined the postage for them.
Sorry to poke my nose in just thought it could be a missed oppurtunity:o
When I've decided that an object can go, the first thing I think of is, can it be eBayed.
In a lot of cases the answer is yes, and I've never ceased to be suprised at what I've been able to sell on eBay.
However, eBay is not the quickest way of getting things moved on, time is needed for the photography, listing, packing etc. Not to mention having the object still in your house, awaiting sale.
If time and space is limited, sometimes the charity shop or recycling is more appropriate, but for me I love the randomness of what sells on eBayEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I have been lurking on here for a while. Hope you don't mind if I join in.
3 Amazon sales from yesterday have been posted today
1 black bag of stuff (books, cds, couple of bags, some clothes that are to small) to charity shop this morning
1 wardrobe sorted out in spare bedroom (still need to sort out the bottom of it though)
1 black bag filled up today of coats/jackets that don't get worn anymore & ready to go to charity shop
Some glass bottles/jars put in glass recycling box - to be put to recycling place later in week
1 old & past it tv/video/dvd stand - taken apart & taken to the dump (done last weekend)
Have also made a start in sorting out one airing cupboard in one bedroom, tends to get used as a dumping ground.0 -

Lavender Rose, only you can decide what's the best for you and your family in regards to getting rid of the things your mum buys you.
Personally I came to the conclusion last year if I am just holding on to things just for the sake of it then I will sell it and raise money for a holiday. Memories means more to me than an item. Only the really special things I now keep, especially if the individual has died. A couple of weeks ago I sold a pair of earrings to a second hand jeweller that have been lying in my drawer for at least 20 years, I got £15 for those. This week I am hoping to sell more.
My sister involved her children in deciding what toys to sell and then she and the children sold it all at a carboot sale. Beforehand she told the children that half of the money raised would be theirs to buy whatever they liked and they absolutely loved the whole experience.
Good luck in deciding what to do.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

Well done to you all for your achievements :T
Baby steps achieved today:
* I have sorted out my purse and shredded all old receipts and any expired vouchers.
* The new BT phone catalogue got delivered today so I have recycled the old one.
* An old Argos catalogue has also gone in the recycling bin.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

Afternoon all.
Reasonably satisfying weekend. Two bags taken to very grateful CS, box of books and convector heater collected by freecyclers and a coat and 3 exercise tops sold on ebay.
Am already gearing up to fill another CS bag.0 -
I've not got much decluttering done today as DD2 has been off school poorly. Amazing how little people can get in the way
However, I have done a few bits today, and will start again with a vengeance tomorrow
23. Quilted throw, charity shop.
24. Fabric conditioner bottle. Recycling.
25. DD coat sold on Facebook. Collected
26. Various empty containers from bathroom & rubbish. Bin (collected today)
I'd love people to pop in unannounced and my house would be immaculate, the reality is that my little people & husband don't pick anything up after themselves. I have started a jobs rota for the 3 eldest in the hope that a pocket money incentive will encourage them to help out. It seems to be working thankfully.96 items decluttered so far in 20130 -

Not much decluttering going on here, it's my interview tomorrow and I feel  about it - have been preparing and panicking, mostly
Fingers crossed for you tomorrow! I've only had three interviews in my long career and hated everyone of them so just keep breathing, think about the questions a while and then give clear answers. (all the things I didn't really do!!)Lavender_Rose wrote: »I have a bit of a problem with getting rid of things my mum has bought for me and my son...toys, ornaments etc. I only have a smallish 2 bed house, and I hate having too much clutter about. I refuse to keep/have anything which needs dusting. No ornaments or 'things' on shelves - I am rather ruthless and can easily re-gift unwanted items without any guilt. My child was 'educated' early on her purchase options :rotfl::rotfl:
Right - tomorrow should see the end in sight of my current chaos. Decluttering took place ages ago but I've been living in chaos tomorrow. New bed, new mattress, end of climbing over boxes and bags stored in the living room.
A bright, sparkly, clutter-free future awaits me (until I turn my view to the kitchen that is) and I just can't wait. The CS has had about three-quarters of the stuff I used to own and it feels good.
Hope everyone else is doing well too.:T0 -
Welcome to the new people and well done for everyone's decluttering efforts.
My husband went to Ikea yesterday to get my daughter's new bookshelf (next job is to put it together). He also got another shelf for my bookcases, so today I moved the books round. All the books that were on the floor in my bedroom are now on the shelves, plus there is still room for a few more.
Managed to part with 9 books whilst re-organising, plus a small dish that got broken along the way as it feel off a shelf (bit sad). Books could still do with a little more re-ordering I think but then could be one of those never-ending tasks if I start getting too picky!
Books are one of my downfalls in terms of having too many possessions. I've been doing a lot more craft in the last year, which has meant more craft stuff (mainly material, wool and crochet hooks) but also the accompanying crochet, knitting, quilting and sewing books. I'm trying not to buy too many more but they are tempting. I've got rid of a lot of chic lit type books as I've gone off them, hope I don't decide I need to buy them back again if I decide I like them again.0
