    best laid plans and all that. It's snowing so trip to CS delayed, but realised the obvious answer - put on DS's bed (he's at uni and has a now clear and remade double bed in his room) then decided to attack my drawers which were jam packed. Rather embarrassed to find bottom drawer totally empty! this now holds out of season stuff.
    1) 1 wooden penguin -> CS
    2) pretty jar with lid -> CS
    3) toy woodpecker -> CS
    4) t-shirt -> CS
    5) t-shirt -> CS
    6) cut down jeans -> recycle
    7) 2 hoodies either CS or DD2
    9) trousers -> RC
    10) cardigan -> CS
    11) pretty aromatherapy burner -> CS
    12) scarf -> CS
    13) shirt I have never liked -> CS
    Are people finding things they'd totally forgotten they've got? We now have 11 pairs of scissors!

  • Well a busy day at cluttered towers!!!!

    So far today's decluttering has involved:

    2 children decluttered to parties :D

    Loft decluttered of papers dating back to 1997 from previous jobs I have had!!!! 4 boxes taken to paper recycling bank.

    Lots of poly pockets and stationery retrieved from the mass paper throw out for home management folder.

    Wardrobe decluttered of clothes that don't fit kids, my t-shirt cupboard sorted of tops I no longer wear.

    Now to find somewhere to put the mass of stationery I have discovered!

    How is decluttering going for everyone else?

    Afternoon all :wave: - you lot are fast putting me to shame :o.

    I got 'sweet fanny adams' done yesterday - apart from hunkering down on the sofa to avoid looking out of the window at the snow and overcast sky. By the time OH got back in, I was well away in the Land of Nod ................:rotfl:.

    My Yellow Split Pea Soup went down a real treat with sandwiches and fresh fruit to follow.

    However, today I've been making up for my idleness. Sorted through lots of my 'smaller size boxes' and identified the contents of most of them. Some now emptied and re-homed, some have been repackaged back into the boxes, re-labelled and neatly stacked (temporarily) in the ex-airing cupboard for the time being - but at least there's now less of them PLUS I know what's inside.

    Wonder of wonders - I've finally come across my beloved, small peeling knife :j - just my 'cook's knife' still playing 'hide and seek' with me :undecided.

    Visit from my DS1 this morning - he's going to take me to an outlet store in Manchester tomorrow (or poss Monday) to check out some 'shop damaged' freezers. I've seen a suitable one that I like for £199.99, but he reckons that I'd probably get similar for around £125 in there.

    Household Rubbish, Recycling and Food Waste day on Monday, so I've been making sure that it's all getting put out as soon as the containers are full. Don't want anything left lying around after the guys have been.

    I've found some more Training Manuals/Packages - and spent time getting the paper pages out of the 'plastic pockets' and into the recycling bin - of course, that leaves lots of empty project folders to go into my 'office stuff' box.

    When I've done them all, I'll sort out a few for dgk's for homework etc, some for myself for hobbies and the rest can go to Freecycle. I'm sure there's some students/small businesses out there who might find them useful.

    Oh well, coffee.gifbreak over for now - back to sorting out. Keep up the good work everybody.

    speak again later - Lilyplonk

    donnajt - I think it was you who asked about a '27 Fling Boogie' :) - It's a part of the Fly-Lady programme. Most of her stuff is just way-too-much for me to handle, but I love this one ................... You grab a bin bag/carrier bag, put the radio on and dance around your rooms - grabbing as many cluttering items (27 if poss!) as you go. Then you go straight to the bin and tip them in - NO PEEPING AT THEM / SORTING OUT / SECOND THOUGHTS - just get shut of them!

    Have cleaned ds's room and sorted it so all his books are now on 4shelves and computer bits on the other, drawers all sorted, ditto desk. Another confession - one of thedrawers under his desk i was clearly using as a present drawer at some point. Will sort through for gifting, using or CS :-)
    Oh and now have 43 odd socks lined up on his bed :eek: so if anyone's missing one...

    Well it's been a busy day. Had some breakthroughs on the decluttering front - mainly sorting out the children's things.

    We've reduced 2 art boxes and 2 drawers to just the 2 drawers. This means the kitchen is now a bit clearer, as that's where all the art stuff lived previously. My daughter has still got 1 box of paint and brushes, which can now fit into 1 of the kitchen cupboards, thanks to last night's decluttering.

    Along the way I also grabbed a few more items around the place:

    2 pairs of trainers
    2 pairs of boots
    Cookbook
    4 magazines
    Packaging
    Stapler
    Camera case
    Art prints
    Tray

    Hoping the friends that are coming round for dinner will notice the reduction in mess! Next job is sorting through the many reusable shopping bags and finding homes for the excess. Tomorrow I think, had enough for today. Maybe just time to dust and hoover before visitors arrive.

    been a bit lax with things this week, but tonight I will definitely

    *get the washing put away,
    *sort one box in the craft cupboard of doom
    *give dd's toy box second coat of paint so it can be reloated to her bedroom when dry
    *wrap ex's dismantled bed frame in polythene and put in shed (like I told him I had in the hope it would spur him into collecting it - shed is awash with condensation and mold, but that's his lookout)

    well - "definitely" might have been a bit of an overstatement, full of cold so have had large attack of cba.
    the kids washing is put away and half of mine
    I sorted 2 boxes in the craft cupboard of doom

    and that's it.
    #today is even more pathetic, sorted out some plates for the bin/cs
    found some ribbons in my wardrobe and placed them with the ribbons I sorted earlier.

    I may box up the videos to go to cs (v easy they are actually tidy and together, just useless as no VCR)

    I have so much to take to the cs, but snow is hampering me

    slow but steady I guess.
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)

    Regifted 2 items (feel a bit guilty:o). Used up odds and ends from fridge in a cooking binge and poured two bottles of oil into one. All in all quite pathetic :o:o

    Must do better tomorrow.

    Well done everyone, you are putting me to shame:(

    Don't feel bad there's nothing wrong with regifting :) sometime people will give gifts that we don't necessarily want, it'll happen. If you're able to politely accept them as a nice gesture and say thank you to the giver and then pass the gift along to a suitable recipient then you've managed to be thrifty, not wasteful and respectful to the gift givers feelings. Nothing to feel bad about there! :T I always label up items like that in a 'regift' box so I remember who they've come from and don't make any embarrassing mistakes! :p

    Not had a very good decluttering day today, have spent a bit of time using up food that's on it's last legs and found another couple of pots of herbs and spices that I don't use/are massively out of date that have been emptied and recycled.

    Also decluttered a couple of mug cosies and some pretty stationary into my regifting box and done a bit of shredding.

    Will have a better day tomorrow I can feel it :j
