Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

Options
Hope everyone had a great Christmas, and didn't accumulate too much clutter.

I have been asked to start a new thread for the New Year, and even though my efforts have been a bit rubbish, some people are doing really well, and hopefully this thread motivates them.

I have been asked for a bulk order of something I have left over from Christmas, so hopefully I will get rid of some more stock, but need to sell loads before my stockcheck in April :(

Off to sort some things for listing on Ebay. I don't think I will ever be minimalist, but would settle for tidy :D

Have a very Happy New Year everyone

    Thanks CM :j

Will think about a couple of different targets. Such as declutter 300 things in 30 days during January. And/or target different areas in the Hobby Room, to be.

    Let's go :j
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I'm looking forward to making further inroads with this in 2013, as I can still see the benefits of my first big session from the summer. One area that needs particular attention is our wardrobes. Mine is bursting at the seems and yet still I have nothing to wear (which has absolutely nothing to do with all of the chocolate and junk food I've 'decluttered' over the last few weeks meaning little currently fits :o  )

Think I'm going to come up with some tangible goals for 2013 and post them to make myself accountable.

Thanks to Charlie's Mum for the shiney new thread and good luck to all with your efforts to streamline your belongings

Hooray, shiny new thread! I did lots in the first half of 2012, wow what a difference! So much easier to manage the house. I would like to rejoin for a couple of months though. My garage and conservatory need some attention. I have a tool chest full of my late DH stuff (most of which I don't even know what it does) so might enlist some help with that.

But, the rest of the house is great! Plus, now I think twice before buying stuff that needs to be stored, so it's saved me money too!

    Count me in.

It was much easier getting ready for Christmas this year as we didn't have to move so much 'stuff'.

The Air Ambulance charity shop benefitted (I hope) from our donations in 2012, as did the YMCA.

I've started to collect bits ready for my January assault already but the problem areas of the attic and garage are going to take some sorting, as well as spider wrangling

    Bring it on :T

    Thanks charlies_mum,

Am so looking forward to 2013, have a very optimistic feeling about this year. Fingers crossed.

Have managed to declutter a huge amount of stuff during last year, thanks to this thread and the people who post with tips and motivation. Thanks all.

Still have a ways to go, especially the dreaded garage, this HAS to be dealt with this year, 90% of the contents will be going to landfill I am afraid, beyond salvage and nasty - like three old mattresses which were left in the rain as I couldn't get them in the garage myself yuk! Will feel so much better once we have climbed this hurdle.

Well done all, keep flinging :)

Can I join in as well. :)

I can't stand clutter of any sort, so this must be the thread for me.

    Looking forward to swaping ideas.

  • I decluttered my wardrobe yesterday. Have a new underbed storage bag, so some out of season stuff went in there, some jumpers to my mum, and have a few bits to sell on eb*y.

    Count me in.

I've been de-cluttering for a while now, but I still have some way to go

My aim is to only have clothes that I wear and fit me, and to only have things in my house that I use or enjoy, or that I value in some way.

This year I will be concentrating on my loft . My husband is supportive of the decluttering drive, so I may also be able to start on the garage.

I've been thinking of the things that have helped me this year.

My Kindle - very few new books have come into the house this year since we both got a Kindle each. Also, I've been able to sell some books on eBay and Green Metropolis ( search on Google for Green Metropolis - books do sell but it can be slow), so it means the books that I have are housed on shelves, with no overspill boxes.

My Ipad - I got a mini iPad about six weeks ago. I think most of the music I buy in futire will be digital, so a lot less CD's will come in. At some point I will see about reducing my CD collection - but I have to get rid of my record collection first!

DVDs. I didn't buy any last year at all. I realised that I watch a DVD once, and then hardly ever watch it again. So now I see a film at the cinema or wait until it's on Sky. I will be going through my DVD collection to see if it can be 'thinned out'

Hinderances - jigsaws. Last year I rediscovered jigsaws. They are great fun, but they are in big boxes! I buy them on eBay and resell them after I've done them, but they do take up some room.

From time to time I will be getting 'stuff' in for my little eBay business. But for the purposes of de-cluttering, that won't be counted - it should be in and out' quite quick.

I've seen people list the items decluttered, so I intend to do that for 2013, so I can see how much stuff goes out the house.

    Good luck everyone
