the 1899 website is now showing Germary as 0.5 pence/min. - Time to find another free dial-up ISP??? :money:
Blast - Another avenue closed. This would mean that 30 mins. on a free ISP would now cost 18p. I've just had a look at all 1899 rates and there are now NO countries at 0p per minute (except UK). So it looks as though Fast4 will continue for the time being.

If anyone needs an Internet connection (maybe for granddad or parents), have a look at https://www.V21.co.uk They offer their Extra Lite deal for £3 per month, including the cost of the phone calls. This gives you 60 gours per month or an average of 2 hours per day. If you are just an e-mailer and occasionally look up sites on the net, this could be ideal. It is a monthly contract as well, so easy to move on if not satisfactory. I am using their sister company Fast 4 (see FAST4 CONNECTION DIARY2) and they offer unlimited for £6.99 per month (it isn't really unlimited but you get about 160 hours per month), so £3 or £6.99 if you need more. Can't be bad. Having said that I am about to move to BB !!! Edit: Should have said 160 hours per week, but beware if you use this service too much, they terminate your service without warning as previous posts on this thread will tell you!!

I have accounts (or have set up accounts for friends and family) with AOL, Demon, ntl, freenet, Tesco, Freeserve, Plusnet and Fast4. Fast4 is actually 'limited' to 168 hours per WEEK. You can see how long you have been online each week on their website but it's only needed for reference as 168 hours per week is 24hours X 7 days i.e. UNLIMITED. Quite good for £6.99/month.

I have a 18866 account, are there any ISP's with a geographical (01..) number in the UK?

Before you buy Google Nest or British Gas Hive check out ESPproMon the Android and iOS Smartphone app that helps you build the same system from just £30.

Is there a cheap ISP that doesn't need a credit card for the monthly payments? A quick reply would be much appreciated.
  • Madasafish pay as you go, you don't need a credit card - it's billed through your BT phone bill.

You could try Opensurf 24/7 at 50p a day - pay by text message £7.50 per 15days -or til you find a cheaper one - they might take other payments for their full unmetered but not sure.l

Received a huge telephone bill from BT with including premium rates and special rates, was told there are internet charges, I must have been 'zapped' without knowing. I use dial-up 0800 numbers from my ISP, any advise from anyone? How and who should I complain?

  • Have a look at this post meantime. There was a TV programme about it last Friday but I didn't see it myself. Possibly the BBC site might have some info on the programme.
