We were called by the hospital at 2am Wednday. We went in to be told she had two bleeds on her brain plus she had a heart attack. Unfortunately the treatment for the one is not good for the other. My mum actually rallied around and I left her sort of alert at 11am to come in and stay the night with her. they moved her to a side room. One of my sisters and I came back at 7pm and she has gone down hill fast. The bleeds are affecting her and she is very agitated and has now been sedated.
    Going back in tonight.
What I want to say is the staff on this ward have been fantastic to mum and us. One nurse has got us an overnight room with a key for us to go anytime we want to rest, when mum is sleeping.
The nurses, male and female, have treated mum with such compassion and respect and made us cups of teas and coffees.
We know it is just a matter of days now but it has opened my eyes to how nurses are coping on the wards.

What an interesting story and very well said. I know this feeling, when my mother became incapacitated it fell on my shoulders mainly even though I have a sister and 2 brothers here, the other two brothers live in a different country so they got let off.

As I stayed the nearest it was up to me to do most of the cleaning, changing, feeding etc....I did become quite resentful esp when one brother who had done nothing was trying to tell me the best way to look afer our mum! This went on for four years, one brother always saying he was getting the train up to help but every time the train either derailed or didn't turn up, funny that.

You go live your life, you're entitled to, your brother has become acustomed to you doing it all, tough, maybe now he'll have to actually give something back to his parents.

Even nowadays, without words, it's assumed the females of the family will do all the hard work, so not fair.
  • So sorry to hear that Johnswife, what horrible news, my thoughts are with you xxx

So Sorry John's wife. It sounds like your mum is being very well cared for which is a blessing. Best wishes
