  • Can I join please? I used to post on the other thread semi- regularly but have fallen off the wagon spectacularly! I find that both my bank balance and waist suffer when I'm not as organised. DH has just changed job and we will be financially worse off and we're still in debt, so I need to be super careful. This is our menu for the week:
Sun: H/M steak pie with roasties and veg.
Mon: Spaghetti Bol (half meat half veg)
Tue: jackets with Heinz 5 beans (on offer)
Weds: Salmon (from freezer) with cous cous and whatever veg is in.
    Thurs: Pasta and pesto.
Fri: Breaded fish and H/M chips.

Lunches will be leftovers, rolls, sandwiches, soup or crackers (from Christmas!)

I will try very hard to stick to this!
  • Hi..is it okay if I join the thread?? I always feel better if I have my menu's all planned. Our new fridge freezer gets delivered on friday so planning a shop to fill it up then. I will also visit the farmers market and stock up on nice meats for freezer before work saterday. Until then I am going to try and use mostly what's in and also try to cook a few new recipes.

Sunday- Fajita chicken ( actually quorn!!) and lots of salad with tortilla chips and salsa and guacamole and rice and beans.
Monday-Veggie Pasta Bake (made today so easy dinner after work)
tuesday-Spinach and Paneer Curry with Rice ( make onion bhaji's if time)
wedsnesday- Buttermilk and harrisa chicken with quinoa salad
thursday-Slow Cooker Beef Casserole with New potatoes and yorkshire puds
Friday- has to be haggis ( if my GF ones come through in time) probs make haggis pie ( from Jamie Oliver book) with a green veg

Have just copied this out to stick on my fridge. Will write the following weeks meals at the end of the week just before I stock up.
Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
    Grocery challenge November : £291.65/300.00 NSD 10

I'm really pleased with how well I stuck to the plan last week. A couple of times I didn't feel like cooking what I'd planned but as I'd already got stuff out of the freezer for it, I had to stick to it! Meant that we didn't fall back on takeaways or stopping off for something else easier on the way home from work. Looks like I'll be able to stick to my £200 grocery budget target for January.

    Plan for this week:
    sun- roast pork
    mon - hm pizza
tue - pork steak with veggies & spuds
    wed - lasagne
thu - some sort of veggie stew in the slow cooker as veggie friend is coming for dinner
fri - haggis & neaps & tatties - well it is burns night
    sat - curry

I have most stuff in but might need some more veg by the end of the week.

ok so having an epic fail week really :(. Been feeling really rotten and finding the energy to do anything but sleep has been a struggle. Anyhow as you can see the meal plan went out the window and now I'm having to re-jig a lot this week :o. Feeling a bit better today so am getting right back on the horse and ploughing ahead with new plan
Made me even more determined to batch cook the months plan as much as possible now tho. Stop this happening again xfingers. You guys all seem to be doing really well :T

The way I look at it is this, if I make a menu plan, good. If I stick to it just a few days out of the week, I'm doing wonderful!

Have you thought about doing batch cooking? When you make a dish that your family loves and doesn't mind having often, make twice the amount and freeze half of it (assuming you have a freezer). This way, on days you don't have any energy, all that's needed is to pull it out of the freezer, let it thaw and heat it up or bake it. I've just started doing this myself. :)
