So, we had our HM fish and chips with mushy peas..which actually ended up as potato wedges instead of chips, and normal peas instead of mushy.
I used the Morrisons value frozen white fish fillets-£1.75 for a bag of 5 Pollok fillets. It was a new try, as fish (like meat) is getting expensive- i would definitely recommend them.
I know they arent ethical etc...but when needs must, and on a budget, i cant be too picky. Besides, they are Pollock, not Cod, so that makes me feel a TINY bit better :)

Tomorrows Menu is HM Sweet & Sour. Normally i do either Pork or Chicken, but tomorrows will be a mix of pork and chinese turkey (those breast of turkey in a chinese 'sauce' you can get in morrisons-i LOVE them and had 1 frozen in the bottom of the freezer, along with some leftover diced pork).

As you can tell, i am trying to use up all the odds and ends from the freezer over the next few weeks. When there are things like single slices of bread, or 1 nann bread, 1 chicken breast etc leftover from cooking, or not needed, i bung it into a freezer bag and it goes in the bottom drawer of the freezer.
I actually NEED to use all of this up now!

Change of plan, DS worked later than expected, DD's friend stayed who is veggie, so me and the boys ended up having poached egg and beans on toast and DD and friend had pasta and sauce.

This is not a bad thing really as had everything in (not part of planned meals) and I have put the chicken in the freezer for another day, one less meal to plan later in the month. The salad will be eaten with the lasagne tomorrow.

There are six of us and quite often plans do change last minute so I have to be flexible but as long as food isn't wasted it's ok with me.

  • The last two pizzas have now gone - as a very quick thought out tea. They were in an outside freezer that I very rarely go into - usually send my husband - and I've found loads more food!
  • Seen the hairy bikers using sunflower oil rather than marg in cake mix. Got me thinking this may be a cheaper alternative when making cakes ect. Has anyone else done this and what did you think?

    Thanks

As I figured, today's quiche didn't happen. Went shopping with my ma for curtain fabric as she's making us curtains as our christmas present. Fabric cost more than I expected so it was an expensive present so we took her out for dinner to say thank you. Quiche can go into the plan for week-after-next, unless I've done some baking with the eggs in the meantime! Have stuck to everything else so far so pleased with the planning to date

I've made a chocolate and beetroot cake from a recipe on this site and it uses oil. I have to say that the finished cake was a bit greasy so its not something I'd be in a rush to try again.

Hmmm ok, stick to what I know and works I guess. Thought one of the lovely people on here would have a better idea than me lol
  • Hey Folk. I'm gonna jump on this thread too!

I've been doing weekly meal plans for quite a while now ( We have a ASD child, and it makes life a lot easier if he knows in advance what he's having )

I'm usually quite good at sticking to it. But this year I want to be making a bit more from scratch. - So will be sticking about, and pinching a few ideas's! and hopefully get my shopping bill down a wee bit. ( currently at about £100PW - inc toiletries )

    Cheers peeps!
  • Quick update, meal planning is going well, only had one big oopsy.
Wed- cheesy pasta and broccoli was v nice and managed to use up tge milk that was about to turn
Thursday- had to take my booboo cat to the vets unexpectedly and was gone 7 when we got out so dinner was pizza from the dominoes next to the vets- v. Bad but OH paid so it least it didn't come from the food budget
Fri- pita pizza. Had forgotten how good this is, also used up the last if the jar of Hm chilli onion chutney as a topping, yummy. AND I remembered to freeze the left over sauce into ice cubes to use for next coue of weeks pizza nites :)
Saturday- jacket cheese and beans was v nice with onion chutney cheese that needed using.

As I was originally planning to go to the supermarket today but am trying to hold off until Wednesday there will be some changed to the plan as there a couple things I don't have and a few things that need using, so:

Sunday 6th. Mushroom risotto with sweet blueberry Yorkshire pudding with creme fraiche and berries for dessert
Monday 7th. Cajun wedges, beans and scrambled eggs
    Tuesday 8th. Cottage pie
    Wednesday 9th spaghetti bolognese
    Thursday 10th. Cheesy potato bake
    Friday 11th. HM pizza
Saturday 12th quorn pie and mash
Sunday 13th. Toad in the hole
Monday 14th. Pea and mint risotto ( or lemon and smoked salmon risotto)
Tuesday 15th. Chilli in jacket potato
Wednesday 16th HM carrot soup (FR)
Thursday 17th. SC stew and dumplings
    Friday 18th. HM pizza

    Morning all.
This evenings meal will be HM sweet and sour.
I am starting to consider planning lunches too, as the kids are back to school next week and i often miss lunch because i cant be bothered to make it as there is just me. I think a plan would help me to make sure i have lunch everyday.
