I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi all :)

So, next weeks meal plan (from Fri 4th-Thurs 10th) is as follows:

    Fri-Meatballs and spaghetti-using a HM mix i froze a few months ago.
    Sat-HM fish and chips, peas.
Sun-HM sweet & sour-using pork and turkey from freezer.
Mon- Cheats pizza, tomato salad, garlic bread
    Tues-Tarragon chicken, new potatoes, asparagus
Wed-BBQ mince and HM crusty bread rolls
    Thurs- Rainbows Potato bake

I have vowed to try at least 1 new thing a week- so next weeks new things are Tarragin chicken and asparagus. I have heard that asparagus has quite an aquired taste, so we'll see what the children and I think of that!!

  • Phew, been reading this thread all morning. I'm starving now! I'd love to join in. I'm trying not to waste any food, and am on another thread for that. My menu won't normally be this cheese heavy but we have a LOT of cheese leftover after Christmas and lots of other "bits"

Here's my menu plan for a while:

Weds: Marinated mozzarella, olives and couscous. (make extra couscous for tomorrow)
Thurs: Peppers stuffed with couscous and monterey jack cheese. Hot buttered pitta
Fri: Bacon, cabbage, chili, garlic pasta
Sat: Pork Tikka Massala, rice and poppadoms with tamarind dip
Sun: Three cheese fondue, potatoes, cornichons, boiled cabbage and beetroot.
Mon: grilled fish in yogurt and coriander marinade with rice
Tue: Cheddar potato and parsnip bake with beetroot and bean salad
Weds: Cabbage and onion and egg stirfry with noodles
Thurs: Goats cheese and spinach pasta
    Fri: Casserole from freezer

Feels like an awful lot of cheese. But there's only two of us and Mr Hedgesparrow loves his cheese at Christmas so we have loads left. We will still have to eat up cheese for lunches as well to eat it all. Oh well, lucky I like cheese!

I've been vaguely sticking to the mealplan in that I haven't eaten anything that's not on it, but it's not been in the right order: back at work now so hopefully the week will be more structured with no more mid-week roasts to deal with!

I'm trying to lose weight too so it's all going into myfitness pal app.

need to plan breakfast as well - I need some sort of take-along protein based breakfast as I don't have time for one at home and am now starving and eyeing up my packed lunch (at not even 10 am! lets see how long I last....)

You could make a tortilla/omelette which is perfect to take anywhere.

When i am being good I make one to take to work for breakfast with lean bacon, mushrooms, grated courgettes and tomatoes, lots of eggs with a little cheese on the top.

Cut into portions and wrap in cling film and pop in the fridge. Grab one on your way out of the door!

    Update! III

T 27th HM Lasagne (already in the freezer!) salad and garlic bread.
    very much enjoyed :D

    F 28th Chicken curry & pilau rice.
Even had a friend and SiL round to play daft games after! :)

    S 29th[STRIKE]Chilli Chicken Pasta Bake[/STRIKE] TPB.
Realised I missed a day! there was a meal planned for it however I just forgot to write it down. Bit of an experimental recipe for me, not feeling too good, so may sub the homemade sauce for one from the cupboard. Planning to mix frozen cooked chicken with cooked pasta and tomato sauce, layer of pepperoni on top, and a layer of cheese on top of that, bung under grill, and, well I'll let you know!

Feeling even worse as the day has gone on, changed this to TPB (tuna pasta bake) so OH can cook, he did say he would do the new recipe, but as it's one I've made up and not written down, he politely declined lol. This was made with ingredients already in the cupboard/fridge so no spend, and acceptable in the realm of my meal planning!

    S 30th Cottage pie, cauli/broc/carrot.
Base for this (and at least two more to freeze) is in the slow cooker as I type :j

Eaten as planned. I was completely stuffed after this, OH needed a bag of crisps & some Christmas choc before bed, the choc was funsize so I'll let him off!

    M 31st [STRIKE]Pork chow mein[/STRIKE] Tomato pasta with Swedish meatballs/chicken.
Realised how much of a tight squeeze today will be time wise as OH is working and then we're going to a NYE party at my brothers. Have changed this to Pasta with tomato sauce and chicken for me, and Swedish meatballs for OH. I'm currently following weight watchers, and the chicken adds protein for 1 point where as the meatballs are 4 points for 5 so better points value! Although it is a change to the meal plan, all items are already in the cupboard or freezer so no spend required, this is classed as an acceptable deviation in my eyes!

T 1st NYD dinner at my parents.
Eaten as planned. There's nothing like your mum's roast when you're hung over :D

W 2nd First day back at work since before Christmas, so fish fingers, chips and beans.
Eaten as planned. I so enjoyed this! Glad I planned an easy meal for the first day back at work as it would have been brutal to have had to stand and cook tonight!

T 3rd BE Chicken Chargrill in a pitta with mushroom rice & salad.
Last meal on this plan, currently sorting out a new one for next week :j Eaten as planned.
  • Been lurking and following at home. Going to pop out and ask please may I join?

Need to get a grip of finances and food shop is a good place as any to start. Use to meal plan a lot more than I have in a long while :o.

My plan of action this month is to seriously use what is here and kinda clear the cupboards to asses what we really need. I'm terrible for hoarding food, especially tins ect. It's like I'm paranoid were going to not have enough, which is frankly ridiculous. I also make far to much food again expecting the 5000 to turn up wanting food at any point.

Basically given we are currently 2adults and a toddler, with another addition soon to arrive I'm sure I can get our spend and wastage down a LOT!

Look forward to hearing your food inspirations and ideas, hope people don't mind if I pinch a few ;). Off work now till mon so plan on doing a stock inventory and planning meals based on what's in. May also have started to batch cook a good few things to freeze in the hope I can eeeeaaakk out what's here till at least start of feb. Just get the fresh foods in.

Once I've got my self sorted will post my meal plan up for all to see :j

    Ok ...... here it goes:

I do need to look at lunches too  but will start with dinners only!

Weds - gammon joint & carrot, swede & pot mash :jstuck to it!
Thurs - salmon & new pots
Fri -[STRIKE] LO gammon - maybe with new pots & salad? [/STRIKE] Toad in the Hole

    Sat -cod & chips
Sun - roast chicken & roast veg
Mon - chicken & leek risotto
Tues - chicken & leek risotto
Weds - salmon & new pots
Thurs - turkey steaks in breadcrumbs & new pots
Fri - chicken casserole & swede, carrot & pot mash (both from freezer) or toad in the hole TBC

*sigh* quite chicken heavy but it always ends up like that when I have a whole chicken to "rubberise" - it's the last one out the freezer (they take up loads of space so will be pleased to get it used up!)

Still going strong! Only tomorrow to stick to then we've done the full week on the meal plan! Ive also been through the freezer/fridge and have planned for next week with only minimal bits needed from the shops. I will post next weeks meal plan tomorrow night when Ive finished this weeks. Anyway, progress lookes like this:-

    Meal plan: w/c Fri 28.12.12
Fri: HM pizza, salad, coleslaw and ovenchips
Sat: spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread

Sun: Cheeseburgers (DH & DS), chicken and salad in pitta (me)
Mon: Chicken pasta & garlic bread
Tue L: Bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, wholemeal toast
Tue D: Shepherds pie & veg
Wed: Chinese style chicken curry with egg fried rice (DH), Crumpets (from the freezer)and a chunk of cheese (me)
Thu: LO shepherds pie (me) LO Chinese curry and egg fried rice (DH)

Ive changed tomorrows meals on the plan, but thats to use left overs from earlier in the week that cant go back in the frezer, so as they are from existing stocks that counts as far as Im concerned. Im really chuffed with how well we've done this week, and how much easier its been than just coming in from work and staring blindly into the cupboards realising that we havent defrosted anything so need to go to the shop to pick something up! This should really help with the budget!! :j
