Slight change to the meal plan tonight - and although what we had wasnt listed, it was in the freezer so no spending. DS wanted takeaway tonight - he asked for fish and chips initially, but his second choice was a cheeseburger, so he and DH had those and I had a chicken portion in a pitta with salad.

    Meal plan: w/c Fri 28.12.12
Fri: HM pizza, salad, coleslaw and ovenchips
Sat: spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread

Sun: Cheeseburgers (DH & DS), chicken and salad in pitta (me)
    Shepherds pie & veg
    Chicken pasta & garlic bread
    Chilli with rice/nachos
Ginger & soy salmon with veg & noodles (me)/ chinese style chicken curry with egg fried rice (DH)/ Fish fingers, chips and sweetcorn (DS)
Bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, wholemeal toast & potatoes

    Can I join too please?

Sticking to meal plans is something I struggle with and is usually why I go over budget on food each month. I've just written out next weeks and my shopping list:

    (I'm vegetarian, OH isn't)

Tom - Salad (Ham for OH, Boiled Egg for me)
Tue - Roast - Chicken for OH, HM Nut roast for me
Wed - Quesadillas - (Ham for OH, Veg for Me)
Thur - Duck, HM Pancakes, Hoisin Sauce, Spring Onion + Cucumber (Sauted 5 spice mushrooms for me!)
Fri - Steak (OH), HM Macaroni Cheese (Me), Veg, New Potatoes
Sat - Baked Potato (Leftover Coronation Chicken for OH, Cheese for Me)
Sun - Pasta and HM Sauce with Garlic Bread

    :D

I've seen people mention the "takeaway secret" book and have had a look on amazon, I probably wouldn't use a lot of it, but would be really interested in the "curry", ""chinese" and if poss japanese and thai equivalents, has anyone got any personal experience of any of the other "secrets" books? - can't work out which on amazon are published by the same people.

    thanks!

I have a curry secret book (can't remember the exact title now or who wrote it) but never used it because I am so very happy with the recipes in The Takeaway Secret. I'm not interested in kebab shop fare, which seems to be why most people buy the latter book, but it has lots of other styles to offer including Indian, Chinese, and American. Honestly I'd start with that one because it is so cheap and what have you got to lose?

I think I may have to adopt the approach of planning some meals, but not specifying the days...

I was supposed to have my (postponed) pork stir fry last night but I just wasn't hungry. I did have the planned beans on toast (deluxe version with Marmite and cheese :D) but that was all I ate yesterday. Just wasn't hungry apart from that and felt a bit iffy last night so went to bed early. Hormones, bah!

So - I won't be cooking the shepherd's pie today - I really do need to eat that pork steak I defrosted. It has been in a 3 degree fridge though, and still smells absolutely fine. Will have a stir fry at lunchtime.

So - although I haven't strictly stuck to the plan, I haven't bought anything else and I'll have stuff to carry into next week. Total cost of this week's groceries will be £14 thanks to the contents of the freezer and the Christmas left overs. Hoorah for that! :T

    Update! II

T 27th HM Lasagne (already in the freezer!) salad and garlic bread.
    very much enjoyed :D

    F 28th Chicken curry & pilau rice.
Even had a friend and SiL round to play daft games after! :)

    S 29th[STRIKE]Chilli Chicken Pasta Bake[/STRIKE] TPB.
Realised I missed a day! there was a meal planned for it however I just forgot to write it down. Bit of an experimental recipe for me, not feeling too good, so may sub the homemade sauce for one from the cupboard. Planning to mix frozen cooked chicken with cooked pasta and tomato sauce, layer of pepperoni on top, and a layer of cheese on top of that, bung under grill, and, well I'll let you know!

Feeling even worse as the day has gone on, changed this to TPB (tuna pasta bake) so OH can cook, he did say he would do the new recipe, but as it's one I've made up and not written down, he politely declined lol. This was made with ingredients already in the cupboard/fridge so no spend, and acceptable in the realm of my meal planning!

    S 30th Cottage pie, cauli/broc/carrot.
Base for this (and at least two more to freeze) is in the slow cooker as I type :j

Eaten as planned. I was completely stuffed after this, OH needed a bag of crisps & some Christmas choc before bed, the choc was funsize so I'll let him off!

    M 31st [STRIKE]Pork chow mein[/STRIKE] Tomato pasta with Swedish meatballs/chicken.
Realised how much of a tight squeeze today will be time wise as OH is working and then we're going to a NYE party at my brothers. Have changed this to Pasta with tomato sauce and chicken for me, and Swedish meatballs for OH. I'm currently following weight watchers, and the chicken adds protein for 1 point where as the meatballs are 4 points for 5 so better points value! Although it is a change to the meal plan, all items are already in the cupboard or freezer so no spend required, this is classed as an acceptable deviation in my eyes!

T 1st NYE dinner at my parents.

W 2nd First day back at work since before Christmas, so fish fingers, chips and beans.

T 3rd BE Chicken Chargrill in a pitta with mushroom rice & salad.

Sat: spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread

Sun: Cheeseburgers (DH & DS), chicken and salad in pitta (me)
Mon: Chicken pasta and garlic bread
    Shepherds pie & veg
    Chilli with rice/nachos
Ginger & soy salmon with veg & noodles (me)/ chinese style chicken curry with egg fried rice (DH)/ Fish fingers, chips and sweetcorn (DS)
Bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, wholemeal toast & potatoes
