Hi all, I really need to get into this, my problem is if hubby thinks it has been planned in advance he will decide he doesn't want it and also I work shifts which change every week. I will start planning this weeks and see how we go, I have to take my grandma shopping but am going to have to try and get her into a 2 week cycle as shopping weekly costs so much more.
sunday - gammon steaks, new potatoes and salad
Monday - Pasta Bake
Tuesday - Corned beef hotpot
Wednesday - Lasagne and salad
Thursday - Lasagne leftovers / toasties for OH as he won't have same meal 2 days in a row
friday - Chicken in bag with new potatoes
Saturday - omelette and saladTo get to Disneyland Florida 20160 -
I think I've got a week's worth planned now (downloaded a free app to keep track - not very "old-style":p). to whomever mentioned Jacket Potatoes - thank you!
I had forgotten that the kids like them, so had a very happy duo this evening for movie night instead of a take-away pizza. I'm so glad to be getting back into this, saves me money and wasted food, but the biggest bonus for me is not having to deal with my imagination failure when I come in from work, stare at a kitchen stuffed with food to cook from scratch and can't think beyond "fishfingers" because I am so tired.
So a week of much more interesting, and healthy, food planned, using up things I have in the house, and I'm looking forward to [STRIKE]stealing[/STRIKE] seeing your meal ideas !:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -

Thank you all for being so understanding!
I always feel such a failure when I try and plan, but wandered in here because we have taken out a mortgage (repayments start feb) and I have one going to Uni in September and have to find £100 a week for accomodation.
Meal planning seems to be the way to go - but really, they all eat far too much - and always the xpensive things....
It's all very well saying 'fill up on veg' - but they eat four to six sausages EACH if I let them, and they won't eat cheap ones, in fact they won't eat cheap anything.
I'll just loiter and hope it rubs off enough that I get a bit better at budgeting (currently around £250 a week for us all)....
Dont feel a failure it can be hard. How old are your brood (and how many)? Is it worth sitting them all down and explaining what you are trying to achieve? As another poster said have one shelf where they can help themselves and the rest are off limits!
Aldi is great for good stuff at cheap prices. A suggestion for sausages is make them into toad in the hole. Even my SS can't eat more than 2 sausages in batter yet if its sausages he would eat 4 or 5. If you don't have an Aldi's near you then suss out when your Yellow Sticky (i.e. reduced items) are put out. If you are making sandwiches some of the supermarket deli counters have an off cuts section. In the past I've managed to get about 400g of ham and chicken for about £1.20! Perfect for sandwiches and then anything left over for pies or HM Pizza.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

Can you plan 7 meals but not plan them for specific days so it won't matter if you don't fancy something in particular one night as you'll have other possibilities.0 -

As expected, the menu plan is a work in progress. This is exacerbated by the fact that my mother is currently staying with me and my partner, having broken her arm a few weeks ago. D-day will be the 2nd when I return her home, although I will be staying with her for a few days to get her to appointments. So, some of the meals will be cooked at hers, from stocks there, my OH will either have to fend for himself from the freezer/cupboards (to be fair he is a fab cook so he wont starve!) or might possibly return to see his family for a few days, while I am with mum.
Thus far the plan is:
Sun 30th Roast pork and Veg.
Mon 31st (same as sun night)
Tues 1st Chicken casserole
Weds 2nd Chicken casserole (LO's)
Thurs 3rd ? Spag Bol.
Fri 4th ?
Sat 5th ?
Sun 6th ?
Baby steps, I guess. I think/hope it will get easier, when I can work from the food stocks in my own home, when there will be a reduction in the number of dietary restrictions that I cater for.Decluttering 2013 challenge.
