The lamb curry I made last night was nice... but lacking a little something, not sure what. None of the kids ate it which doesn't surprise me in the slightest (awkward beggars :rotfl:), but manwife, an old school friend and I enjoyed it.

Jackets are in the oven for tonight, butcher was closed though so having to make do with supermarket sausages instead of butcher-made ones :( how dare he have time off! :o

Just been reading through the proving thread, think I might break in my dough hooks making some bread dough tonight, prove in the fridge overnight and bake in time for lunch tomorrow. As long as I don't muck it up it'll go lovely with a chunk of cheese and my tomato chutney I made a couple of weeks ago :D

    Coldcazzie- whats the 'proving thread'?
  • Well the shepherds pie went down well.

Hubby always cooks Sunday dinner so I've Got the day off apart from making a steamed syrup sponge for pudding.

2 nights in and 2 meals off the meal plan :j. Not sure what we are having tomorrow as Im not sure of we are off out to MILs for Sunday lunch. If we are it will be something light - possibly use the bacon and have bacon sarnies rather than a full meal, or boiled eggs and wholemeal toast, then save the rest of the ingredients for next weeks meal plan.

    Meal plan: w/c Fri 28.12.12
Fri: HM pizza, salad, coleslaw and ovenchips
Sat: spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread

    Shepherds pie & veg
    Chicken pasta & garlic bread
    Chilli with rice/nachos
Ginger & soy salmon with veg & noodles (me)/ chinese style chicken curry with egg fried rice (DH)/ Fish fingers, chips and sweetcorn (DS)
Bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, wholemeal toast & potatoes

How are you going to make chicken soup Monday from leftover Sunday dinner when you say you are having sandwiches and salad on Sunday? Or do you mean from leftover Sunday dinner which you already have in the freezer?

Put the carcass in a big pot with either milk or milk/water, a quartered onion and quartered carrot, a stock cube or two depending on the amount of liquid added and season. Simmer for about half hour. Separate the liquid from the solids, put liquid back in pot and thicken with a little cornflour. Yum :T

Someone posted this: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4362519 and one of the board guides linked to several merged threads about proving bread.

  • Hi everyone was looking at my meal plans and made a slight mistake with my dates... So instead of my first meal plan being week beginning the 7th of jan it should have been week beginning the 31st of Dec!!! Going for my grocery shop tomorrow although don't need much as the freezer is groaning. I have also started a journal for my shopping lists and meal plans so as to help me stay on track, does anyone else write this stuff down???? This is a new adventure for me so want to try and see on paper how well or how badly I'm doing week to week/ month to month!!!!

Loving this thread and all the fantastic meal ideas, this is something I really need to get into doing. I have loads of cook books but never get to use the recipes as I never end up having all the ingredients in. I have tons of things in the cupboards and freezers and I've been really naughty and forgetting about coupons I've got, so I think that I need to join the grocery thread too and get a bit more organised. I think I'll have to do a freezer inventory first, there's soo much in there! I think I can get away with going shopping every ten days as fruit and veg seem to last ok in the cooler drawers in the fridge. So I think I'll do a ten day meal plan. I also need to start cooking from scratch, to try and save money too.
