  • Ok have just compiled meal plans for week beginning jan 7th.
Most of it is out of the freezer and cupboards so this in turn should help with my grocery challenge.
Mon 7th - chicken Kiev and veg
Tues 8th - roast beef and trimmings
We'd 9th - slow cooker chicken curry and rice
    Thurs 10th - stovies
Fri 11th - steak pies and veg
Sat 12th - macaroni cheese and toast
Sun 13th - homemade soup and crusty bread.

This is the plan, plenty leftover mince pies biscuits and goodies from Xmas. Lunches will be crackers and cheese, toasties etc from cupboard stock and fridge leftover. Maybe this will get harder when the leftovers run out!
    GC = £150.58/£250
  • I'd love to join in but my head is all over the place with trying to come up with a regular menu for us all (2 adults and 3 children). I know the kind of meals that we have regularly so it should in theory be easy.....

My problem lies in the fact I have to list what I have already and meal plan around that. Will take me ages and I am dreading it really, but I am trying to only buy fresh bits and pieces between now and 12th Jan.

Wish me luck, I am going in.....

Can't believe how perfect this challenge is for me. I always write out a menu plan for the week but by the time evenings come around I can never be bothered to cook what I've put on the list. Self-discipline is the key!

I tend to prepare dinner the previous evening eg fill the slow cooker ready to switch on the next morning. This might make you stick to your plans better.
Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!

Today - slow cooker chicken casserole with braised red cabbage.
Friday - meatloaf with Greek potatoes
    Saturday - shepherds pie
Sunday- not sure yet. Hubby always cooks on a Sunday
Monday - new years eve. Out for a meal.
Tuesday - hm pizza and chips
Wednesday - sausage bake and mash
Thursday - beef stew and dumplings

Hiya, I'd love your recipe for meatloaf and Greek potatoes, would you mind posting the recipe?

I'd love to join you all! My OH is a pain tho' because he has depression and although we meal plan when it comes to that day if he's down he wont eat at all!!! Think I might try to come up with things that can be frozen if he won't eat them!!!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last
  • I'd like to join in too please, 2013 is going to be far more organised than last, I need more disabling, and sharing with like minded people seems perfect, I will start from the 1st, We have plenty of left over christmas bits and bobs and I am going to run down the freezer. My problem is finding a meal all four of us will eat the kids are soooo fussy, time to get hard with them maybe? Looking forward to seeing other meal plans,

    C.C

I'm determined as one of my unwritten new year's resolutions for 2013 that I will be better with my food shops i.e I intend to meal plan/batch cook/plan a bit better etc.
I thought it was highly amusing that you shared an unwritten resolution by writing it down :rotfl:

Great idea though and I may join you on this one. I love batch cooking and am usually very good at keeping a stash of meals in the freezer, but it's summer here and I don't always fancy reheated stew or curry when it's 30c outside. I need to plan better warm-weather food so I don't end up buying expensive takeaway lunches at work because I turned my nose up at what was in the freezer the previous night.

Can i just say- Honeythief i am very jealous of your NZ summer. Wish i was there right now :)

So, on tonights menu is HM Pizza, and i think i have found a great pizza base recipe (thanks Jamie Oliver!). Historically, my pastry/dough making skills have been shockingly bad...we'll see how it goes this evening!!
  • You're all making me very hungry but finding this thread reall useful already for giving me new meal ideas. Living off leftovers for as long as possible. Any money that I don't spend on food this week will go on the MasterCard bill.

It is nice to have a proper summer! Sitting here in shorts and t-shirt right now although it was relatively cool today and of course it's nearly bedtime now, but still not cold. We moved here from Ireland five years ago and really enjoy the weather in comparison. Mind you, Christmas just isn't the same because it's so bright and sunny, so I do miss that and feel like I don't get a proper Christmas any more. So I wish I was there right now in a way as well!

I don't have any wonderful pizza base recipes but I'm quite happy with the one from the Takeaway Secret book (what a great buy that was!) and make it in the bread machine on the dough setting so it's nice and easy. The machine does everything but roll it out and bake it :)
