Fingers crossed I've attached the above link correctly! If not, go to thismoney.co.uk and look down the right hand side for a topic titled 'blow for bank charge reclaiming' it tells a bigger story and makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing!!

    Hi Nellie,
Im really sorry if i sound stupid, but im trying to file a small claims on line, but on the second page it asks for the banks details, do i put my local branches details and what about a persons name? And what about additional details? I've not got no further than this cos i want to make sure im absolutely correct in what im doing!

    Hi Nellie,
Im trying to claim off the First Trust Bank. I wrote the first letter requesing statements within 40 days, today (day 37) i received a letter Re: Data Protection Request, with a short list of referral fees only, dating from 2001. I know i had a whole lot more charges than that and wondered what i should do now. Do you think i should write again requesting my statements? Or are they just trying to fob me off with this information?

Can you please help me with this?? Thanks

    Hi bubble
write and tell them that you will take the £500 as a payment off what you are claiming and you will see them in Court.A lot of people are going down the Ombudsman route but they tend to take a much longer time to settle. I would take them to Court - if you look on the Consumer Action site re bank charges they give step by step help on how to lodge your claim etc and its reasonably simple to follow. Have a look and if you have any queries them PM me and I can talk you through it.
    best wishes

    Hi Abbacor
The first thing I would do is get on the phone to First Trust - ring the Chief Executive's Office rather than your branch (or if you dont fancy that then ask for his FAX no and send him a message and ask him to contact you!) and ask why they did not supply you with the info that they are legally obliged to by way of the Data Protection Act. If they try to fob you off with ANY excuse then say that you will see them in Court.
If you have the statements going back a few years then go through them and highlight any debits to your account marked DX, FE or REF. There is a data input sheet on Martin's forum here and it will calculate the interest that has built up on any charges made. You can lodge a complaint about them not supplying the info but it takes a while to get anywhere and doesnt in my view really progress your case. Then if you look on Consumer Action Group website you will find a step by step guide to making a claim -the forms are not too difficult to follow but if you need help then PM me and I'll be only too happy to assist. Let me know how you get on and remember - DONT BE A BIT ASCARED as they say in Belfast.

hi nellie or anyone who can help!!
i got my letter from first trust last week - a big fat NO - surprise surprise!! have decided to go down the ombudsmans route and have checked up on the advice on this site - but do i need to send them all of my bank statements or just a copy of my schedule of charges with interest added on etc. total is about 1500 but should i update schedule for interest to date or just work out interest on 1500 from time theyve stalled over it all? what do you think?
