I wrote of to Northern Bank, got statements back and the fees amounted to £580 (730.66 including intrest worked out with Martins calaulator) , sent of sent of second letter with a printout detailing all the charges. Received a letter this morning:

'A disproportionate amount of effort on the banks part to work out the fees would have an adverse effect on the level of service provided to our customers. This is why we have provided you with the statements! We would ask that you provide a detailed copy of all fees that have been charged to your account to make up the sum of £580.

We would then ask you to leave your statements into the branch. We will contact you again when we have gone through the statements.

All complaints are taken very seriously and i have arranged for the matter to be investigated bla bla'

I have already done the statements part along with a detailed list - so will i send that again along with the actual statements and literally highlight the charges?
And - if they don't have the time to go through the printout now how are they gonna find the time to go through the statements?

Are they just fobbing me off?

Iv no intention of not going through with this but i just want to make sure that i do it right! Also they said the had included 'a copy of our internal Complaint Handling Procedures "Putting Things Right For You"' But they didn't!?!?!

I hope im making sense! (please excuse if im not - only signed up yesterday!):o

    Hi babydiesel
Yes its hard to appreciate why a bank WITH all the info on this would ask a customer to send back statements showing the charges made. I think you have done enough in sending in the little spreadsheet with the interest calculated from Martin's site. I would reply that 'while you appreciate their position, it is up to them to take further action to disprove your claim. Also that failure by them to progress this matter will leave you with no option but to initiate immediate legal action'.
Best of luck - dont take any nonsense from them - no response means 'SMALL CLAIMS COURT'
    regards
    nellie

PS ignore the Complaints leaflet - they just think of different ways to say 'no'

    Hi folks,
just thought i would share with you I claimed £100.00 in charges from Ulster Bank (NI) just last week (27/04/07) and hey presto the amount was credited to my account yesterday (02/05/07) - no reply just the money, now thats service for you.

Have lodged a small claims court against Nationwide today as they have refused to pay out a measly £200.00 - it'll cost them in the long run!!

This was our experience with the Ulster Bank as well - no letter but the money reappeared in my account - ok it was only £30 but it's the principle.

We recently submitted a claim for over £900 against our bank. This claim included intetrest charges of around £250. The bank has made us an offer of nearly £500. Given the two recent judgments we are worried about proceeding to court. Would be be better accepting the offer? Any other views would be gratefully accepted.

    Hi all,
Thank you Nelliebag for writing back, but i decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and highlighted each charge and left it into our local branch (is close by - think that's why i did it!) Anyway, low and behold - 3days later, the offer me £500!!!!! The actual charges were £580, so i have accepted. Quite a few people over here in NI who have been claiming back charges have been successful - the bank are even phoning them and offering the money - excellent! Over the moon!!!! :T
I am currently fighting with Abbey for £1900 and I've to take them to small claims so wish me luck!
If only they could all be as easy as Northern Bank eh?!

Just received a cheque from Alliance & Leicester giving me my full settlement of £196.56. This does not include the court costs but am delighted no end, hopefully nationwide with soon be doing the same

    Goodluck everyone
