The template letter and general advice in Martin's article is the same but the differences arise at the court stage.
Have a read of this website...http://www.govanlc.com/jurisdiction.htm
and towards the bottom of this page you'll find the online service for NI courts
http://www.courtsni.gov.uk/en-GB/Services/Online_Services/
An alternative if you reach the court stage with no result and your claim is more than the £2,000 limit is to use the Financial Ombudsman.

I also know of a number of people who are going down the 'Civil Bill' route because their claims are over the Northern Ireland small claims £2000 threshold. It's not as complicated as people think and there are a number of other sites where they have very good info and support on how you can do this, one site I use is https://www.penaltycharges.co.uk they have a very good forum section for Northern Ireland banks, no offence to moneysavingexpert it's just I found it difficult to find specific help for Northern Ireland claims when I was looking.0 -
Hi there, first time using need help!!
Sent claim to northern bank but bank rang to say some charges claimed not feasible:
1) Warning letters to say overdrawn. 7 letters @ £13
2) Monthly maintenancecharges of £9.50- I know usually monthly or qtrly normal charges arent allowed however I am only charged tese £9.50 monthly maintenance charges in months were i am overdrawn- are they still not allowed? 12 charges @ £9.50.
Are they right, can I not claim the above charges??? I also think I will send my new letter to Mr Don Price, thANKS NELLIE BAG

Kind regards
Clare
By the way...Nellie has been very helpful to me......She's a "gem"...smiles
I claimed successful against the Northern Bank on a BUSINESS account.
Claimed back.....
Unpaid charge
Referral charge
Warning Letter.
We had no Direct debits refused but apparently you can claim that charge..whatever that may be
But definitely NOT maintenance fees as its a SERVICE charge.
It grieved me that I couldnt claim the latter.....smiles.
Kind regards

Sorry for delay - just started new job and been snowed under.
Yes jizba - you should write to the Bank (address the letter to Mr Don Price, Chief Executive , Northern Bank Ltd, Head Office, Donegall Square, Belfast (sorry dont know postcode) and ask for copy statements. If you use the templates here on Martin's site they are really good and make sure you set a calendar reminder to fire off the 2nd letter sharpish if they dont reply within the time. The Bank hates bad publicity especially when OFT and Financial Ombudsman are watching.I knew of one charge that was imposed on my account around a year ago, I complained to Northern and got the money back, I don't think there were any other charges but I'm not sure is there anyway of finding out?0 -
emeraldgreen - I sent you a pm same day so not sure what happened to it. Hope this helps -so sorry for delay (new job and I've been under p all week)
The monthly charges of £9 ish look like an agreed operating fee. (no chance really of reclaiming those) Daily charges of £12 can be claimed back - this is an over limit or overdrawn fee and is triggered everytime there is a transaction on your account when you are over your limit. Look also for letter fees advising that you are over limit. I'm not sure what the £60 quarterly fees are unless they are charging a sort of penalty fee if you account has been needing 'more attention than usual'. Dont be a bit afraid to ask them for more details.
What I have done for some friends is go through the statements with a highlighter and anything other than cheques, dds and s/o's just mark them - you will be really amazed how much it all adds up.
Again apologies - good luck with your first letter and dont forget to address it direct to Don Price, Chief Executive, Head Office, Northern Bank Ltd, Donegall Square West, Belfast.
If you need any other info just pm me.

Some FE's have quarterly charges of £60ish, monthly ones at £9/9.50 and then several daily ones at £12 (these say referral fees whilst those others have no details). I also have an unpaid chq for £300 and an unpaid fee of £6. The other charges are dd set ups etc which I know can't be claimed.
Nellie you are just what we need here to help us beat the jargon! I would appreciate it if you could tell me what I can claim for.
Thank you0 -
Hi folks,
just thought i would share with you I claimed £100.00 in charges from Ulster Bank (NI) just last week (27/04/07) and hey presto the amount was credited to my account yesterday (02/05/07) - no reply just the money, now thats service for you.
Have lodged a small claims court against Nationwide today as they have refused to pay out a measly £200.00 - it'll cost them in the long run!!0
