I dont mind admitting I'm very bitter. 2 of my work colleagues got engaged today and I'm very jealous. I've been waiting for nearly 7 years for a proposal that isnt going to come and I've been wishing all day that I had received a lovely diamond engagement ring rather than the piddly little bottle of perfume I got :(

:( I waited 7 years for a proposal as well so I feel your pain. By the time it happened it wouldn't have cared when or where it happened. We've now been together a further 10 years and are finally getting married in May. We booked it in June but had kept it quiet from everyone but parents (who are coming abroad with us) and a couple of friends. We told other family members today and they were really pleased, I certainly don't think it detracted from the Christmassy-ness.

Hope you get what you want sooner rather than later x.

I asked him once, he said no, it was too soon.

    We'd been together five years...

Is getting married really important to you? If so why ? Not trying to put you down or upset you in any way

If you re asked him now do you think he would accept ?

Getting married is important to me and when I said last leap year Im not going to bother asking you to save you the trouble of saying no he didnt disagree.
I'm very old fashioned and I've been very hurt in the past, I believe firmly in marriage and I hate the fact he refuses to commit. We've lived together for 6 years and I've tried everything to get him to commit but he wont.

Sorry to say but after six years of living together, he's unlikely to want to get married. Why would he? He doesn't need to, does he?
Chuck him and get someone who is more deserving of your loyalty and love.

Ok and I don't mean this bad honest ... but if marriage is very important to you and he won't marry you ... Would you consider finishing it with him?

My husband thought very much like you and tbh I wanted to make him happy hence the reason we got married... Marriage however meant and still means nothing to me.... My husband has now statedamy times that in hindsight he wishes we had not got married

Incidently we are very happy with each other, very much in love and fully committed to each other

I personally don't get the whole planning the perfect engagement. When you feel the person you are with is the one you want to spend the rest of your life with then propose, no ring or anything else is required. We got engaged on Valentine's Day but not due to the date but as it was the first day of my holidays so we were out together.

Please don't think I'm getting at anyone but I can't understand why if marriage is important that anyone would live with someone first never mind for several years. If you just want to live together then fine.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

It's a lovely time to propose during a special time can make it more memorable. I love the mem who go to a lot of trouble to get it right to make their woman happy
