Christmas engagements

Why do people get engaged at Christmas? Is Christmas not special enough? Doesn't an engagement somehow detract from the Christmassyness for everyone?
Just curious as an engagement ring photo just popped up on my Facebook.

Maybe because it is a nice time to propose?
Maybe because all the family is there to celebrate?
Maybe it's just because they want to?
I don't see how it detracts from christmas!0 -

Engaged on Christmas Day? Shock horror! Some people even get married on Christmas Day. And some babies decide to get born on Christmas Day. Which is lovely..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

It is a very popular time for engagements, but I don't know why. Maybe it is to do with families being together, although often that means being with one set of prospective in laws rather than both which might not be a good start. (One family "knowing" before the other, or being more involved.)
Don't take too much notice of me as I think Valentine's Day is a perfectly good time to get engaged and lots of other people disagree about that.0 -
One of my friends got engaged today  Hes gone over to wherever it is she lives (not in uk) so i think was the best time with her family there.

I've always thought that it's because they can't think of anything to buy as a present
Must admit, I wouldn't like to get engaged on christmas day, birthday, valentines day etc. In saying that, give it another few years without a ring on my finger and I might change my mind!£2019 in 2019 challenge:£50/2019

Me? Not bitter at all. Happy for them but curious as to why people do it at Christmas, that's all. All the jewellers have been pushing their engagement rings lately and it perplexes me. Valentine's Day I understand as it's coupley and the love thing is being pushed quite heavily. I just always imagined engagements as being a private coupley thing and Christmas a family time. It's just the same as not being able to understand public proposals or even more so, youtube flashmob style engagements.0
